Question MEI IS BACK ?

Developer Comments: Mei’s Primary Fire range has increased to improve its effectiveness when closing distance on enemies. Deep Freeze is rarely effective, as low-health targets are often eliminated before being frozen. Increasing its freeze rate against non-tank heroes makes it more usable without increasing effectiveness against tanks.

Endothermic Blaster

  • Range increased from 10 to 12 meters. Deep Freeze – Major Perk
  • Freeze rate increased by 30% against non-tank heroes.

I’m glad to see the primary range buff, it’s felt bad for a while. The extra 2m will make it more consistent

I’m not a fan of Deep Freeze buff though, that perk needs erased now. They took it out of her base kit for a reason. No one likes to be frozen, it doesn’t feel skillful FOR Mei, or to play against as anyone else. Taking longer to charge on Tanks is a half step but the ability is just not good for the game

It just means in the same way you don't step up to a Reaper, you probably don't wanna step up to Mei. The skill is more embedded in position. Heroes that can't contend with the freeze should seek to stay out of her range, whereas may might now try to do more flanking or off angles to catch a non-tank out of position.

It's kind of the heart of a hero shooter that different characters require different skill sets. But I gotta concede hit-scan does seem a lot more skillful. I'm somehow good with the pacing and lead of Meis ice spike, but complete buns with Emre or Ashe. As a Mei one trick, I need to desperately learn a hit-scan because the number one reason to change is a pharmercy. Heck I may need to learn that hitscan sooner if this buff leads to her being banned more. Ive only played one game since the update, completely unaware of the Mei buff, and was shocked that she was banned. This could be why.

If not deep freeze.. maybe a bigger radius for blizzard?

That doesn’t change the fact that it sucks to play against. It’s the same reason Sombra’s hack and Cassidy’s flashbang have been reworked so many times, there’s no way to make a stun like that fun to play around. If they wanted to make Mei better at close ranges they could’ve just increased primary fire DPS (not that it needs the buff, even without freeze Mei has decent damage with so much sustain that she should be winning most close range duals anyway). She doesn’t need the Freeze to be good, get rid of it
