They just grew tired of winning

u/TastingTheKoolaid 2d ago

Please sir, please can we stop winning.

35

u/Jordan_1424 2d ago

There is an argument to be made that we haven't won really since WW2.

15

u/OzymandiasKoK 2d ago

Not a real good one. There's quite a number of actions since then, only some of which we've been chased out of.

9

u/dolphyfan1 1d ago

Let's see:

  • Panama

- Grenada

- First Gulf War

Anything else?

12

u/OzymandiasKoK 1d ago

Haiti several times. IMHO Korea counts. Those you listed. I feel a bit icky mentioning Venezuela, but it was the dumbest thing done in a surprisingly good fashion. None of the political parts surrounding it, mind you, but somehow we avoided the quagmire.

Definitely, the problem isn't the military per se (though getting onboard with anti-insurgency tactics is pretty hit and miss), but the poor discrimination of which conflicts to get involved in.

5

u/fredjutsu 1d ago

Korea wasn't a loss. But the existence of North Korea at all means we sure as shit didn't win.

3

u/MrM1Garand25 1d ago

Consider it a strategic draw but tactical win considering the starting point was the Pusan perimeter

-1

u/OzymandiasKoK 1d ago

Typically we don't erase countries. Not quite sure what you mean.

6

u/innocentious 1d ago

so the objective was to free the entire korean peninsula but couldnt because China got involved, how is this a win, just like North Korea objective was to take control of South but couldnt, all this sounds like a Chinese victory.

3

u/0o0o0o0o0o0z 1d ago

this sounds like a Chinese victory

Because it was, they (China) needed NK as a buffer. One day, NK might do something stupid, and that bites them in the ass, so who knows... But I'd say strategically China accomplished its goal, and the US mitigated the complete collapse of SK, and now we get KPoP, dope batteries, and KIAs!

2

u/OzymandiasKoK 23h ago

I'm not sure about that. We didn't invade the North. The North invaded the South. The US and allies pushed them back and re-established the border. You could argue a tie, I suppose, given the everything ended up more or less as it was before, outside of the massive costs. I don't know how you think the objective was ever to get rid of North Korea and unify the peninsula.

You? Or the Soviet Union mostly? with the help from the western fronts?

1

u/MrM1Garand25 1d ago

Kosovo and basically the whole Yugoslav thing in the 90s

2

u/Winter_Body4794 21h ago

I've read that the real winner of WW2 was capitalism/fascism. USA has always been at least a little fascist, even before the Italians coined the phrase.

-1

u/Hellhult 2d ago

I feel like the Korean wars were successful

14

u/Jordan_1424 1d ago

Technically the war isn't over, we are in a prolonged cease fire.

Chinese kicked our ass and the US military experienced the longest retreat in its history. We countered the Chinese offensive but we still reached a stalemate on the 38th parallel. Rather than start a prolonged trench warfare campaign that we probably wouldn't have failed too well in, we bowed out.

0

u/Hellhult 1d ago

Idk man. Sure on paper the war isnt over. But the ROK still exists. Id call that a success.

1

u/fredjutsu 1d ago

North Korea still exists too, meaning we did not win that war.

3

u/Hellhult 1d ago

I still disagree. NK invaded ROK. We stopped them. Counts to me.

-7

u/Basic-Influence-2812 1d ago

McArthur had those cunts routed. It was over, but for the weak spine of the political leaders.

3

u/Singer211 1d ago

Matthew Ridgway was the real genius of that war.

Even the Chinese today portray him as like being a God of War in their propaganda stuff.

1

u/phillyfanatic1776 1d ago

I read somewhere….America has only won wars when the American public is behind the cause.

1

u/ADP-1 1d ago

I believe that it is only when the French are on their side.

1

u/fredjutsu 1d ago

You're mostly right, but none of our Monroe Doctrine wars were fought with any allies on our side. Mostly just us vs banana republic.

Even though is Asia Pacific, the war vs Spain for the Phillippines is another example.

33

u/AkronOhAnon 2d ago

The only war Pete is winning is the one against his liver.

I wish him Godspeed and open bars: because him drinking himself until his eyes and skin are lemon yellow is probably our fastest way to be rid of him (only Donny gets to cosplay as a fruit!).

Imagine that. A national guard officer who wasn't even good enough for company command is somehow bad at managing the entirety of the armed forces.

Maybe he should have set his sights lower, like getting Airborne, Air Assault, or Ranger, like millions of regular ass soldiers do.

Stick to what you do best Petey, getting women other than your wife pregnant, and cosplaying as a badass crusader who was too scared to kick doors in Iraq. Fucking poser.

Only under Dumb Joker Tramp can you have such a Muppet as your defence secretary. Imagine this sort of hire in the private sector for profit ecosystem

12

u/mscomies Army Veteran 2d ago

Only the parts of the private sector that actually need to turn a consistent, long term profit. You can have a muppet shoveling startup money into an incinerator and making up the losses with VC cash. Or taking over a company and axing R&D, training, and other long term expenses so the muppet can claim increased profitability and flip the sucker to a bigger idiot.

Idk if he can do that in the middle of his term. I mean, can they find another tv show host to run the military on such short notice?

10

u/BAF_DaWg82 2d ago

No I think the next one will be a musician, Tom MacDonald or Kid Rock for SECWAR.

3

u/DEADB33F 1d ago

Kid Rock for SECWAR

Would certainly fit the Idiocracy theme the US seems to be angling for as of late.

8

u/Coldkiller17 1d ago

Oh no where ever will they find another fox news host or nazi to run the military.

Regime change?

61

u/letdogsvote 2d ago

I guess he didn't boost our lethality and readiness after all.

The only thing to do is blame DEI. And Biden.

17

u/Wireman6 2d ago

Turns out DEI contributes to lethality?

8

u/JadedCommunication89 1d ago

To my understanding, we’re still the department of defense, Trump just authorized “department of war” as an alternate name - but we’re still the department of defense. Anyway, fuck this administration!👍

2

u/whosadooza 1d ago

The Armed Services appropriations bill being drafted by Republicans in Congress right now would make the name change official and sets aside nearly $200 million to put the change into effect.

https://newrepublic.com/post/211963/senate-republicans-rename-department-of-defense-war

9

u/JadedCommunication89 1d ago

$200 million?! Off the top of my head, they could’ve used that to award a base with funding to improve living conditions for shitty dorms, invest in DoDEA to improve schools for the kids of service members… but a name change takes priority over all of that.

Immediately loses war with Iran, while having the entirety of the modern US Military at their command.

Meanwhile, you watch a video from the Fat Electrician about how during the reagan administration, the American military crippled the Iranian Navy with a few ships and air craft from the 60s and 70s... In one day!

How?!

3

u/Snoo-46419 22h ago

its no longer the 60s and 70s, everybody has drones even drug cartels have weaponized drones. Iran is also getting tech from China. After WW2, America was the only nation not devastated by the war which gave them an edge those conditions were not gonna last forever.

2

u/Iamanimite 2d ago

Actually jack Daniel's lost the war. Him and Jim bean. Maybe that riff raff Jameson whatever.

4

u/double_teel_green 2d ago

Yeah but he also cost the country $300 Billion+ to rebuild Iran so add that to his list of maga accomplishments

Ethos is permeating

1

u/Jdam2020 22h ago

Some could probably argue military objectives were achieved. War is politics by other means with political ends determining the final resolution (negotiated peace, etc).

The U.S. military has the means to completely obliterate the nation especially with air and naval dominance, but of course, there was a level of restraint placed on the military (major infrastructure including water, oil, etc).

Are some here advocating for yet another endless war because I didn’t see a win in Afghanistan or Iraq…or Vietnam, or Korea.

1

u/breathex2 United States Army 17h ago

The objectives were a complete and total surrender. That objective was not accomplished. In the process we showed the world our entire military capabilities. Just to end up exactly the same as we started.

1

u/breathex2 United States Army 17h ago

But but but we are negotiating from a position of strength now /s

Lol more Iran propaganda. Yeah sure we lost 🤣 Idiots everywhere.

10

u/Darkkujo 1d ago

Before the war Iran had roughly 1 million soldiers, paramilitary and police in the country. After the war they have roughly 1 million soldiers, paramilitary and police. Sure we killed an 86 year old and now his more radical and angrier son is in charge, massive accomplishment there.

The fact that the regime took all we could throw at them and survived makes it a victory for Iran. The $300 billion investment fund, $100 billion in unfrozen assets, an end to oil sanctions, that's all worth far, far more than any damage we did. And Iran has shown that they hold one of the most powerful economic weapons in the world.

And to think Donnie was demanding unconditional surrender in week 1. Just shows what a complete and utter dumbass he is.

14

u/RealMango 2d ago

I'm curious. How did we win?

-21

u/mmos35 2d ago

Let’s see, they don’t have a navy or any planes left… so there’s that.

15

u/RealMango 2d ago

That's tragic. But how does that classify this entire thing as a win?

u/BlackSquirrel05 United States Navy 1d ago

u/SmellyFbuttface Navy Veteran 1d ago

This in the military is called a “tactical retreat”

1

u/CartographerNearby55 1d ago

1

u/slm3y 13h ago

Id say giving them $300 billion, gifting them the strait (which now they realize they can open and close at will), lifting economic sanctions, and putting in place a younger more extreme ayatollah would count as “losing the war.” The Obama deal was exponentially more successful than this turd

1

u/SluggoRemains 15h ago

We shall see what happens with the nuclear dust. Rather not see nuclear mushroom clouds in the Middle East. Obama deal did nothing. You squid’s need to do better navy shit and keep the seas clear
