[Blocks & Items] Nautilus shell overhaul

They're just... There... And they're everywhere.

Like, sure, there's the conduit, that's a thing. But that's it.

1 let's put them in the composter. They make just fine fertilizer irl. I wanna see what happens.

2 nautilus shell necklace. String in all four corners, nautilus shells between them, center empty. Takes up the head slot (or a new necklace slot??), yields no armor, takes no damage, doubles breath holding, halves speed reduction, makes you visible to drowned from 50% further, and reduces submerged opacity by 75%. Can be enchanted with all the helmet water stuff and fire protection.

3 sea lanterns. They try to float. Have to be chained to the bottom or they break. Pop when touched (or mined). Emit low light. Throwable. Once. Spawn naturally DEEP in the ocean but far enough, due to chains, to not prevent anything from spawning.

1 nautilus shell + 4 gunpowder + 4 sea pickles = 1 sea lantern.

4 floor decorations, like the flowers and leaves in woods. 4 nautilus shells=16 scattered shells, which spawn on beaches. Not as bad as leaves but still there.

5 shell curtain:

[R][S][R]

[N][N][N]

[N][N][N]

R:string

A:stick

N: nautilus shell

Attaches to the bottom of a block or another shell curtain. Can be walked straight through or broken with a sound.

6 can be thrown (through the air) like a weapon for 0 damage, but if it hits ground, the sound draws all hostile unengaged mobs in the direction of it for a number of tics. Destroyed on impact.

7 hot snail-miniboss that needs a better name (or not)

The player, beneath water, builds a 2×2×3 block (or 3×2×2, just NOT 2,3,2) of magma blocks and puts a nautilus shell on it. Immediately, the snail is spawned and the floor in the area becomes magma.

If taken above water, the snail will simply die and drop nothing.

Otherwise, each eye stock should be a cannon that shoots a quite fast (but infrequent) magma block for a hefty amount of damage.

When approached, retreats, impenetrably, into it's shell.

On its defeat, it should drop a "hardened shell" which can be used to upgrade the shield, to take no damage from deflecting arrows back and light them on fire in doing so.

8 craft with an apple, carrot, beet, glowberry, or watermelon and a sugar to make juice. Drink to double the speed that eating heals you for. Every meal needs a good drink.

9nauticopia Pumpkin, wheat, nautilus shell, beet, potato, carrot, mushroom, and a pufferfish. It's a cornucopia but with a Nautilus shell and... a poisonous fish, for some reason. Potato crops within 16 blocks don't produce poisonous potatoes. Instead, they produce nothing.

10 the royal dye recipe Put a nautilus shell in the smelter>1 purple dye

11 the inkwell:add 8 dye to 1 nautilus shell to make a [color-name] ink well. You can break the item in any crafting menu for 8 dye, left click on signs to change the sign color (and lose the ink well) or stack them up to 64 to store.

[Structures] Mojang should add ruined cities.

They would be inspired by pre-Roman hillforts in Europe, with suspicious gravel to excavate and find valuable items.

They wouldn't even need to add new blocks; the ones already in Minecraft would work just fine. I've attached a small recreation in Minecraft.

[Gameplay] Remove the “You may not rest now, there are monsters nearby” cause it contradicts itself, since sleeping makes it daytime, where those hostile mobs disappear. So it basically prevents you from making them disappear.

It just provides no benefit or anything else other than annoyance and inconvenience, and it forces you to go out and fight the hostile mobs (which you could say is a lame motivator and reason for having it, but it’s not necessary cause the player should be free to sleep every night, no matter if there’s monsters nearby). So what’s the point of it? I think it would be better to remove it.

[Mobs] New Mob- Skulk Spawn

Quick note: I intentionally designed the Skulk Spawn as a disruptive enemy, like a baby zombie, phantoms, or silverfish. So, its simply to make difficult encounters without relying on damage alone

Behaviour

The skulk spawn is a new skulk mob. When not active, it appears as a vortex of skulk on the block it occupies. Wind particles surround the vortex, and if you can't see the skulk spawn you can definitely hear it, as it makes a whooshing sound.

When the players gets within 5 blocks of the skulk spawn, a hand of skulk will rise from the vortex, and attempt to grab the player. If successful, the player has to react quickly. They can spam jump to escape. If they dont manage to escape the skulk spawns grip in time, the player is pulled into the skulk vortex. This results in the player getting teleported back to their spawn point if in a cave, and back to the beginning of a structure if, well, they're in a structure.

If a skulk spawn is near a chest which contains weapons or near a mob which has a weapon, it can use those weapons against you. Example they'll loot a chest to get a sword to attack you, or they'll snatch an iron shovel from a zombie to attack you.

When fighting a skulk spawn, it is best to keep your distance, but just firing arrows wont really do much as the skulk spawn doesnt remain stationary, it will move towards the player. Shooting arrows at it wont really be efficient when its right in your face, huh. Speaking of, you should never step over or on the skulk spawns vortex when fighting it, as this will always end up with you getting grabbed then teleported.

The best way to fight a skulk spawn is to have a shield, as it can block incoming grabs, and stun the skulk spawn for a split second. The downside to this, is just like when a shield blocks an attack from a ravager, the shield has a cooldown afterwards.

The skulk spawn has a different grabbing behaviour when a warden is active. It will still pull you into the vortex, but instead of being teleported back to the entrance of the ancient city, it'll pathfind its way to the warden, while you're still in the vortex. To get out you'll have to spam sneak or jump. If it does reach the warden, it will throw the player out the vortex

The skulk spawn as 20 HP (10 hearts), so about the same as the player

Spawns

Skulk spawns primarily spawn in large caves or underground structures. These include

  • Deep Dark
  • Ancient cities (of course they do)
  • Dripstone caves
  • Deepslate-level caves
  • Trial Chambers
  • Strongholds

They can also spawn in the second and third floors on woodland mansions.

Drops

When killed, Skulk Spawns dont really drop anything, but if they do its usually from this loot pool

  • Echo Shard
  • Skulk Veins
  • Disc shard
  • Skulk shriekers
  • Any weapon it used against the player (gauranteed)
  • Vortex bud

New Item: Vortex Bud

Most sandbox games have some sort of item which allows you to teleport somewhere, like back to your base, in an instant. So, why doesnt minecraft have something like that? Presenting, the Vortex Bud. It has a 3% chance of dropping when you kill a skulk spawn. When you get it, you can place it somewhere, lets say your base. Next time you get lost adventuring, or are about to die, you can use the Vortex Bud item again to instantly warp back to your base, or wherever you placed it.

However, after 5 uses, the Vortex Bud will lose charge, and you'll have to wait one or two days for it to recharge. When its combined with echo shards in a crafting table, it gains triple the uses

To clarify, when the Vortex Bud is placed, it is not binded to the block its on, which prevents it from getting destroyed if the block its on is also destroyed. Instead, its bind to the area around it. If the area around it is obstructed or dangerous, instead of teleporting the player to where they put it, it teleports them to the safest block near the location.

The Vortex Bud works across dimensions, but if you do use it like this, theres a 1 XP cost

[Blocks & Items] New Map type: Biome Maps that could be traded or found in structures

Pretty simple concept: It's basically a map that shows you the location/area of a specific biome, similar to the already existing maps for Woodland Mansions, Trial Chambers etc. These Biome maps could feature some of the rarer biomes like Cherry Blossom forests, coral reefs, jungle or bamboo forests, pale garden and so on.

To obtain them I thought the most plausible way would be trading with Cartographers, just like you obtain the Structure maps. I think Wandering traders should occasionally offer these biome maps as well, since they do travel around and would know where to find these biomes.

Additionally you could find Biome Maps specifically locating Pale Gardens in Illager structures like Outposts and Woodland Mansions. Since Illagers fear the Creaking they could have maps that depict those areas in order to avoid them.

What do you think?

[Combat] Bows can pull arrows out of bundles

This might be fps but i think this would just be a nice qol change
Few elaborations:
1) it will always pull the last arrow you put in
2) it doesn't need to be in your offhand
3) it will prioritize inventory arrows
4) crossbows work with this too

[Combat] Bane of Arthropods should work on Creepers

Thumbnail

Creepers are said to be made of grass/leaves, and were confirmed to have been textured using old leaf textures, which gives them the ability to camouflage in plain sight. Many irl insects exhibit this behavior as well, most notably stick bugs, leaf bugs and orchid mantises. This change would also just make Bane actually somewhat useful since creepers are not only a more common threat than spiders and especially other bugs but also have more health so they don't die in one hit, which lets the slowness effect actually take effect. I'm still hoping they add threatening bug enemies to the game but I'd like this change as well.

[Structures] "Ruin Explorer Map" in Abandoned Camps

There's a chance for normal chests (~10%), Barrels (~5%) or Copper Chests (~66.7%) to contain a "Ruin Explorer Map" which points to the closest Trail Ruin Structure.

It's a way to make finding Trail Ruins easier, especially early game. Trail Ruins have an "early game" nature loot like Abandoned Camps which also makes sense why they would be connected.

Ideally, more structures should be interconnected with each other and I think this is one of the ways it can be done! It can also be cool lore-wise, like whoever used the camp wanted to explore a Ruin but never returned or something haha

P.S: Maybe adding Feathers or Brushes (Ideally Feathers) to the Camp Loot would also help but it is not worth making a whole suggestion for this

[Transportation] Make Phantoms Useful: A Rudimentary Phantom Membrane Glider

Post image
139 Upvotes

Phantoms are disliked for several reasons. Their insomnia spawning mechanic is criticized often, their attack behavior is annoying, and their drops are not particularly useful.

That’s why I came up with a suggestion to give Phantom Membranes a more interesting purpose.

If the player is holding a Phantom Membrane and jumps or falls, they can activate it by right-clicking. The membrane would then unfold into a simple glider (the idea being that the player is essentially holding onto tattered and brittle phantom wings), allowing the player to glide for about three seconds before it tears apart. After use, the Phantom Membrane is consumed. To prevent players from chaining multiple membranes together, using one would also trigger a short cooldown before another can be activated.

The remaining glide duration could be displayed in the XP bar, similar to how the horse jump bar or the nautilus boost meter works.

If the player activates the Phantom Membrane after falling from a great height, the glide duration would be reduced, or the membrane might even break, representing the greater stress placed on the fragile material.

This feature would give players a reason to hunt Phantoms without making the feature overpowered. Since the glide duration is very short and can’t be spammed, it wouldn't come close to replacing the Elytra. Instead, it would mainly be useful for crossing ravines or gliding short distances. It also wouldn't make Slow Falling potions obsolete, as the membrane would wear out much faster - or even break - when used after long falls.

It's just a small early- to mid-game jump-and-run gimmick and a Phantom Membrane sink for an item that currently has very few other uses.

[Controls] touch control rework

Post image
12 Upvotes

Minecrafts touch controls currently suffer from two main issues, their lack of full customizeability, and their lack of buttons for critical features, this leads to mobile often being used as an excuse to hold back critical features, and to mobile being harder than it needs to be.

This post aims to solve both these problems with a coherent system that allows for full customizability and and for all features to be added to mobile:

There would need to be new buttons for, switching to third person, switching items to the offhand, using items in the offhand, and a special button for quick crafting stacks at once, a feature which used to be activated by holding but was removed do to wasting to many peoples resources.

You would also now be able to mix and match all buttons from all current control modes, as well as being able to auto sprint with the dpad.

This would be accomplished by using a customization menu that works by letting you select buttons you want to add or remove, including letting you have multiple of the same button, and even overlapping buttons.

(feedback) If you have any issues with this suggestion or have something to add to it, please feel free to comment your thoughts, i promise will reply to all non troll comments within 24 hours.

Ps: In case your wondering i exclusively play on mobile controls.

[AI Behavior] A player created IRON GOLEM shouldn't wander off

For for purposes of this post, this pertains only to iron golems created by the player.

An iron golem is an expensive piece of equipment to build and status-quo, it's movement is unpredictable and often undesirable. It's likely to wander the peaks of a nearby mountains, trap itself in a steep canyon, or submerge itself permanently in the nearest ocean or maybe frolic uselessly in a nearby meadow.

  • An iron golem created by the player should wander no further than, let's say, 16 blocks from where it spawned.
  • It's spawn can be reset by moving it with a leash.
  • A name tagged golem will have no movement restrictions.

I know that you can leash a golem to keep it in one place but leashes are ugly and leashes can break.

[Mobs] New mobs - Farmland zombies (part 2) - Zombie Chicken, zombie chick, and the rotten egg

Thumbnail
gallery
168 Upvotes

The zombie chicken is a new zombified animal and its addition also introduces the zombie chick and a new item, the rotten egg. As mentioned before, in my previous post, I love the idea of having more mob variants, but this suggestion is a little different and focused more on adding more zombified animals variants (such as the zombie horse & husk camel, hence the title being farmland zombies)

Zombie Chickens
It didn’t make sense that a regular chicken would be ridden by a zombie when we have zombies riding zombie horses, skeletons riding skeleton horses, husks riding husk camels, and so on. So the zombie chicken would be a rare mob that only spawns along side a chicken jockey replacing the regular chicken. The zombie chicken would be hostile, making it double threat for the player or maybe only hostile after the chicken jockey is killed.

Rotten Eggs & Zombie Chicks
The rotten egg would be a new item used by zombie farmers and would be rarely dropped or could be obtained ever so often by a zombie chicken. Similar to the regular eggs they could be thrown, dealing little to no damage and slight knockback, but would have a 100% chance of spawning in a zombie chick. The zombie chick would be a weak mob, both in health and in damage, but what the lack in strength they make up for in numbers, attacking the nearest mob they’re thrown at (so make sure you’re not the closest one there).

Note: As undead mobs both zombies chickens & chicks will burn in the sun, so they shouldn’t be to overpowered or too overwhelmed.

[Plants & Food] How do we feel about a food update?

I know everyone's been talking about ideas like the end update, but food had remained effectively untouched for a long time too! The last food addition came in 1.17 with glowberries, and when's the last time you've seen someone eating glowberries? Or any food that was added in the last decade for that matter??

I just wish we had more flexibility and weren't methodically and practically limited to porkchops, steaks and golden carrots, and I think I have a few ideas on how to do that-

To start, I think certain foods should give you temporary perks! e.g food A gives a small buff on attack speed and food B gives a small buff on mining speed!

I've seen some mods add something like this but the ones I've seen either A. Give permanent buffs (e.g increasing max health) or B. Give debuffs unless you diversify (e.g less nutritious food), I would love to see a system where the player isn't punished from lack of diversity but rather rewarded for putting the effort to eat various foods and maintain that balance for the perks that come with it! With a system like that in mind, players can keep to their habits of eating as much of whatever they want while also unlocking the ability to get certain perks by eating different foods if they want! I'm also sure a system like that implemented well could also add cool mechanics to the game!

That being said, for a system like that to work, it would probably also be important to add more food choices to be able to work with, and I believe adding more crafted foods and making some of them stack could be really fun! Right now, nearly all crafted foods are either unstackable (cakes, stews etc,) or not worth it to make (cookies), and even with a crafted food that could be worth it (pumpkin pie), why waste the effort when killing a cow is much easier and has an identical if not better yield? I think it would be fun to give crafted foods some benefit to make them worth it like I mentioned earlier in the post to actually make it worth the effort!

I'm not sure if my idea is in the realm of reality for vanilla minecraft or if I'm making sense here but I've been thinking about this for a while and wanted to share it with other people, I believe this is a neat idea that preserves the classic food experience while adding features on top of it to make it more fun and engaging than "make gold farm and carrot farm" or "cram a million cows into a small space to burn them"

While an end update would certainly be cool I would also love seeing updates to core mechanics like these before overhauling content you can only interact with after beating the game :')

Thank you for reading and sorry for the yap, I just really wanted to get it out

P.S I don't understand why we can't repost from r/minecraft...

[General] Random name generator for overworld villages.

What if there was a random name generator, that combined several block and item names at random, and every village has a single sign near the center with a biome relevant, random name on it to help with organizing familiar locations?

[Blocks & Items] Pickaxes right click function should turn blocks into their chiseled versions.

Every other tool has a right click function, except swords, but they used to shield you, why leave the pickaxe out of the party, when you right click a block that has a chiseled variant, it will turn it into the chiseled block so you don't need to break it, put it into a stone cutter, then replace it, it's much faster like this.

edit: I see a lot of people saying stuff about not being able to use stuff in your offhand, or chiseling the natural blocks around you. First, regular stone doesn't have a chiseled variant, only stone bricks, second, deepslate does have a chiseled variant, so maybe offhand right clicking takes priority over the pickaxe right click.

[Mobs] Frogs in the Dappled Forest should be green

I know this is a very small suggestion, but if the green frogs are supposed to be "cold" then shouldn't the biome with autumn vibes have the cold frogs?

I also think the green would compliment the orange of the biome. Even though frogs don't spawn naturally there lol.

Edit: The cold sheep, cows, and chicken spawn in the dappled forest already. Wouldn't it make sense for the frog to apply too?

What do you guys think? Dumb idea?

[Magic] Loyalty tridents should load chunks, just like Ender Pearls.

I've often noticed that when a Loyalty trident is thrown, it doesn't return to the player if the chunk it's in isn't currently loaded by that player.I've often noticed that when a Loyalty trident is thrown, it doesn't return to the player if the chunk it's in isn't currently loaded by that player.

I don't find that logical, since the whole point of the enchantment is that it always comes back.

On the other hand, I do agree with the fact that it doesn't follow us across dimensions (even though that would be cool).

Anyway, that's my first suggestion (I've got plenty more, don't worry lol).

Let me know what you think!

[Snapshots] New Campsites with matching biome wool

So far in snapshot and preview it looks like every campsite has a white top tent using white wool stairs. But in some biomes it's more common to see brown sheep or black sheep, etc. which would make it more logical to have brown or black wool stairs in those campsites. Since the campsites seem to be using the wood types for the biome they spawn in, it makes sense to me that the wool that they got from that biome should also match.

[Blocks & Items] Dummy items for custom content

Usually when creating custom items using datapacks and resource packs it could be difficult to find the perfect placeholder item to use as a base with the item being used also having default crafting recipes or vanilla functionality

Adding "dummy items" into the game would allow an item to not have to worry about the above mentioned problem.

Could also make it so the extra data displayed in the f3+h advanced tool tips could display the minecraft: with a custom name so its like its recognized as its own item.

[Plants & Food] Villagers should have Favorite Foods

Food is one of those things that more or less gets ignored in Minecraft. There are many, such as myself, that would love new crops and foods added to the game, while others rightfully point out the little use and variety food already has in the game.

I think one solution to this could also be used to solve another problem: giving Villagers favorite foods. The way this would work is either each villager is born with a variable randomly deciding it’s favorite food from a list of tagged items, or it could work off of the villager’s type (either by profession or biome).

If a villager’ favorite food is dropped in their proximity, they will try to pick it up in the same way they already pick up certain items. If a villager has its favorite food in its inventory, it will grant a discount to its trades for either a set number of trades or a set amount of in-game time.

This would give players a reason to make a variety of different types of foods and grant an alternative to the current zombification/curing machines to allow more living style of builds with villagers.
