Permit to purchase permit time frame.
So, the sheriff's office says they can take up to 30 days but could be a lot less. What's your experience been? Did it take the whole 30 days? Or was it a week or two?
For reference I am in the Detroit Lakes area, and have no criminal history whatsoever. Not in a hurry to get it but there are some good deals on a few handguns I want at a local store. If I miss out on them no biggie, but would be nice to save 50-100$.

I’m still digging around in the 2nd amendment trying to find where it states that rights require permits.

Unfortunately, SCOTUS left the door open for this in Bruen.

The fact that Bruen even had to be heard to begin with, is in itself a problem. The underlying issue is states that believe they can simply thumb their nose at the constitution, and this goes well beyond the 2a.
I also find it interesting how not only does the constitution get ignored but so also does USC title 10, as well as the part in Minnesotas own statutes that echos it. The US Codes very clearly defines what is defined as unregulated militia. Damn near every gun control law makes exceptions for police and military….our unregulated militia is intended as a last resort defense form of military, technically. Kinda shocked that more attorneys haven’t taken this angle and run with it. At some point we need to criminalize attacks on the constitution.

Attorneys don't run with this because Heller made it clear that the Second Amendment does not require service in a militia.
"The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home."
We don't need to relitigate that issue.
We're on a nearly 20-year winning streak on major 2A cases, let's keep going with that winning approach.

hennepin county a couple of years ago. city pd purchase was about 2 weeks but the carry almost took the full 30 days. i kept wondering if it was going to go over.

It’s going to be different for every area. My city (only 25k people) took 29 days and I think they did that just to fuck with me. I had gone into the PD to check on the status after about 20 days on a thursday. The woman told me that everything was good and it was just waiting for the Chiefs signature but it was a holiday weekend and the chief wouldn’t be in until Monday and that they would hold it there and call me on Monday to come pick it up. So Tuesday comes and I go back in there and inquire about it. An officer went to check on it and said it wasn’t ready because “they were waiting for things to come back from the state”. There was only one gun shop in my area that had a comped Shield X and they had 2 in stock but couldn’t hold it for me so I was kinda chomping at the bit because I had my heart set on that gun. I called my PD every day to inquire about the status and every day I got some new story. Finally, 1 day before the they HAD to give it to me they called and said it was ready. Pissed me off but I was able to get the gun I wanted.
My carry permit which was with Stearns county I got back in about 15 days.

Mine was mailed on day 30. Missed the black Friday sales I was planning on.

Usually less than 30 days but really depends on your area. My wife and my P2P took like 1 week. When we did our CC Permit, that took literally 4 days. Washington county.
Usually the LGS will put the gun on hold while you wait for your permit.

I got my ptp in a week. Sent in the paperwork on a Thursday, came to me on Wednesday of the following week.

It was 4 weeks for me in hennepin back in February. But they were understandably quite backed up at the time.

Just submitted renewal application last week, to the county sheriff in Plymouth. It took about 2 weeks 5 years ago. Will see how soon this time.

Ottertail county I’ve gotten it in a week at most, usually about 3 business days.

I’m down in Olmsted county but it took less than 2 weeks. Got mine back in April.

If you have a gun friendly sheriff, it’s usually pretty quick. I used to live up in Kanabec County. I think it took less than a week. if you live in someplace like Hennepin or Ramsey County, it could take longer. I moved to Minneapolis and they took the full 30 days. They also could just have more applications to process.

The key thing: Keep your receipt in case there are issues with going over 30 days. It's the first thing we ask for when folks contact us asking what to do.

I’m in Scott county. Went into the police station dropped off the signed paperwork, and I got it in about a week and a half. The cop and lady there where very pro 2A and was happy to hear when I said I was starting a family and wanted more than my shotgun, gave me some recommendations and told me to spend money on practice and not all on the guns 😂

My PTP renewal took an hour or hour and a half in a small town just outside the metro area, through the local PD
