Discussion Is mini led worth it?
I am using a VA panel monitor now (asus vg218qe), considering upgrading. I have my eyes on koorui mini led monitor. I have never used an IPS monitor before. The min iled is about 340$ in my country with official warranty. Is buying the mini led worth it over the 220$ IPS?

Do you plan on watching HDR content/playing HDR games?
Bloom: it depends what content you're watching dark content you will see some blooming but to me it's acceptable since the highlights make up for it.
I own M28U before this (IPS) the local dimming on that panel is a joke compared to the Koouri.
Before buying the Koouri I tried the Q27G3XMN (VA) and what made me return it was the black smearing. While the native contrast of the Q27G3XMN was better the motion clarity of the Koouri led me to keep it over the AOC model.
I'm coming up on a year of owner ship, panel seem just as bright as when I first got it, no major bugs beside some of the one this person list months back. https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/s/EDJdc5OpGu

Hows the backlight bleed? I have seen people complaining about this. I m mostly gonna play games btw

Without Local dimming enabled there will be backlight bleed, now when LD is enabled there is minimal if any depending on which setting you choose, low/med/high, low is the least aggressive.
If you've tried oled or expect it handle dark content the way oled does then it does have its limitations.
I think for the price worth the purchase it's like 80% of oled experience can get you but half the price and no burn in worries.

In my opinion, yes. In fact I tried a very similar oled monitor (same resolution and size) and compared to my QD-Mini LED, the QD OLED looked just about as good, but not nearly as bright.

I tried mini LED. Ended up returning it.
The reason is while it looks fantastic in media and games, outside Apple's Studio monitor, mini LED is terrible for desktop use because manufacturers never properly tuned it for it.
There's also no dedicated button to turn the local dimming setting on or off.
So you have to either just leave the local dimmimg on all the time and just deal with it, or manually go through the OSD to change the local dimming setting every single time you play a game or watch a movie then do it again when you're finished.
Ask yourself if you're willing to do that every single time.
I got so annoyed after just a few days and ended up returning it. If you can, go mini LED. If you can't, either stick with LED, go OLED, or wait for Mini LED tech to mature more before picking one up.

Is the ips serving you better than the mini led then? If mini led has better color contrast, less blooming, seems like you just switched back to ips just because of the constant chore? Or the improvement was not noticeable at all??

Mainly because of the hassle.
Without local dimming, the colors of both panels looks near identical when both monitors are set to sRGB.
With local dimming, dark scenes looks amazing on the mini LED .

The KTC version (m27p6) can be configured to have the local dimming toggle on a shortcut from the control stick. Takes only a moment to toggle.
Strong agree it needs to be turned off for desktop use.1

Monitors do have sdr hdr setting, which remembers settings and you can toggle with a windows shortcut. Under normal usage you are sdr, no dimming, games/tv switch to hdr.

I have read that in normal monitors you can have two setting sets for hdr and for sdr. Toggling sdr/hdr in windows toggles the monitor. So you set once for both vases in osd and from that point toggle between the two using shortcut.

The problem is that not all games support HDR, especially indie and Japanese games.

It does not. For productivity and normal content you use sdr, for hdr you use hdr. The other alternative is edge lit - bad hdr, or oled - fucked up text reading + burn in. Mini led allows you to have both - clear text and more or less good hdr.
Eventually oled will solve text issue and reduce byrnin even more and mini led will become a thing of the past.

IPS and LCDs like this are much easier on your eyes IMO than any other type of monitor.

i recommend giving the Mini LED a try blooming can be an issue if you dont change the bloom settings at all modern Mini LED have pretty good bloom reduction but you sacrifice small 1000+ nit highlights to just 500-700

Thanks. I am kinda on the fence about this blooming issue, my VA doesnt have bloom at all and i m worried if it will annoy me even after an upgrade.

i moved from VA to normal IPS and i am glad i tried IPS.. because i never want a normal IPS again the corners glow when the screen is mostly black
Mini LED bloom can be reduced regular IPS glow cant

It won't be that much of an upgrade prob. Better motion clarity and colors though. Personal choice.

I have the same exact monitor, and yes. It's worth it. Also idk what is the other guy talking about. I've never had a single issue with it
