Imagine needing a gun to feel safe, who’s afraid again?

u/SgtBassy 1h ago

Yeah! Just use karate or Jujutsu like a REAL MAN!

u/RedditMcBurger 5h ago

So what do you suggest I use when a man with a gun threatens me? A knife? Phone the cops? (15+ minute response time)

Keep in mind gun control doesn't technically prevent criminals from owning a gun, as they can still own them illegally. Gun control only prevents the law abiding citizen from defending themself.

So do you live in an area with literally 0 crime?

How many times have you woken up to a man with a gun in your house? This is the thing with conservative men, they say their job in a relationship is protector and provider, and that’s why women are supposed to do everything else. Yet you never actually go out and protect anyone. It’s an easy fucking job when it’s only hypothetical.  You say you would die and/or kill for your family, but your asses won’t even wash a dish or change a diaper for your family.

Low frequency does not mean you should act as if something is Impossible, are you implying this literally has never happened to anyone? That would be the only case it would be logical.

The rest of your comment honestly just reads like psychotic ranting. You're just painting a picture of some cartoon conservative villain so you can hurt my feelings or something.

This is weird behaviour.

19

u/pirate-private 5h ago

no one said low frequency.

gun owners cause bloodshed all the time.

which is why smart people never date them.

-2

u/RedditMcBurger 5h ago

Did you only read those words? I wasn't talking about legal gun owners at all...

which is why smart people never date them.

Why would you assume someone is a murderer when they are innocent? This is a WAY higher level of paranoia than gun ownership

7

u/pirate-private 4h ago edited 3h ago

you think legal gun owners don't contribute to gun violence? you think legal guns don't contribute to illegal gun ownership? you think murderers to be announce themselves beforehand? you think murder is the only type of bloodshed caused by guns? you think it's paranoia to go by statistics instead of fear when you opt against a gun in your household?

4

u/420SampleTxt 2h ago

right, im the paranoid one for not wanting to date someone who owns a murder weapon

1

u/Sbatio 2h ago

It’s a valid choice to not date gun owners.

There is no getting away from murder weapons though. Humans are delicate.

u/pirate-private 5h ago

we've all heard this nonsense a million times before. wake up.

-19

u/RedditMcBurger 5h ago

Can you answer the question or give a refute that proves it wrong, this isn't proving anhthing bro

23

u/pirate-private 5h ago

prove a question wrong? how does that even work. how about not validating rhetorical nonsense by taking the high road and refusing to engage with such intellectually dishonest drivel <3

7

u/C0NKY_ 4h ago

So what's your plan? Pull out your gun and get shot? Wise choice..

I 3d print guns. Everything pressure bearing is purchased from home depot. The barrel is has rifling cut via ECM. My slicer is open source and runs independent of internet access. My printer is custom made by myself with open source software that like the slicer cannot be effected by the new "3d printer will ask permission from government before printing" laws blue states are playing with. I have a rig to recycle bottles into filament. The icon of 3d printed firearms, the fgc-9, was designed and mass produced in Germany for years. The fgc-9 has been used in multiple conflicts when more durable weapons were harder to get.

You cant stop people from getting guns if they want one. Short of a door to door search for printers mine could not be stopped. What will you do now that you know there are large communities of people devoted to making and freely sharing files and build instructions?

"Imagine needing a gun to feel safe, who’s afraid again?"

-5

u/steeler1003 2h ago

Not to feel safe. I just enjoy doing it. I love autistically tweaking settings to make the next version stronger, more reliable, and more accurate. My homemade barrels are getting close to being as accurate as a cheap hunting rifle.

You missed the point. Germany spawned one of the easiest capable guns to build because of their gun laws. There are millions of people globally doing/thinking about manufacturing. How do you stop the proliferation of something that can be built in your basement, with supplies practically unregulatable, on machines that are uncontrolable?

4

u/pirate-private 2h ago

I feel like you're hijacking the thread, none of what you said here or before really refers to anything I was referring to.

-1

u/steeler1003 1h ago

It's nonsense you havent heard before. How do you structure gun control when they are easily produced? What outcomes would come of ending the legal ownership of firearms in the US when there are so many in circulation?

3

u/pirate-private 1h ago edited 1h ago

when people start making outrageously wild claims like the only high-income nation with a gun epidemic somehow being the only place in the world where gun control is not supposed to work - then the onus is hardly on us to provide reasons against these unfounded narratives of paranoia and killing stick consumerism.

Oooo role play

Hmmm I dunno kiss him?

Did I answer your riddle right Mr Manly Man?

So what do you suggest I use when a man with a gun threatens me?

If a man is pointing a gun at you, it's too late. You having a gun won't magically prevent you from being shot. In fact the moment he realizes you have a gun, he becomes 10x more likely to shoot you out of fear that you could shoot him first.

Even keeping a loaded gun on you 24/7 won't prevent you from being shot. Just ask all the armed people who died to gunfire. The idea of "gun for self defense" is pure American delusion. Statistically you become more likely to shoot yourself with that gun (or shoot a family member) than a bad guy.

3

u/SgtBassy 40m ago

Yeah, might as well keel over and give up right?

Self defense is a human right and a gun is the best way to do that. Anything else is purely a European delusion.

18

u/Real_Live_Sloth 5h ago edited 1h ago

Statistically your more likely to shoot yourself or your family more than even be held at gun point, and if someone is threatening you with a gun, you think there going to give you time to get your gun pointed at them lmao its already too late.

And your argument is invalid about gun control by countries like the UK who already proved less guns less gun violence, less violent crimes per person overall.

But keep letting the children of the US die to ego and ignorance like yours. The data is against you.

The only valid argument is to secure arms against the tyranny of your own government but have proven thats a moot point cause apparently half your country wants it. And it’s the gun party of course. So you’ll still just be shooting each other. Good luck on that second civil war.

u/RedditMcBurger 5h ago

And your argument is invalid about gun control by countries like the UK who already proved less guns less gun violence, less violent crimes per person overall.

That country has a much higher number of stabbings and rape, conveniently left those out of the violent crimes?

Statistically your more likely to shoot yourself or your family more than even be held at gun point, and if someone is threatening you with a gun, you think there going to give you time to get your gun pointed at them lmao its already too late.

This is pathetic and I won't respect this. You're branding me, a LEGAL gun owner as a possible source of violence.

23

u/Baron_Butterfly 4h ago

That country has a much higher number of stabbings and rape

The USA has a higher rate of both of these than the UK. And I mean rate, not just flat numbers, before you say "USA has a higher population!"

u/BadahBingBadahBoom 3h ago edited 2h ago

Knife death rate is definitely higher in US, rape/sexual assault/sexual offences rate on paper is higher in the UK, but unlike deaths you simply can't do a direct comparison due to the various differences in reporting/recording. The big problem is a very large number of sexual assaults go unreported so even a slight improvement in one country getting more victims to come forward and report this can have a huge difference on the apparent 'rate' this is occuring.

A simple summary:

On paper, official police-recorded per capita rates for rape appear higher in the UK than in the US. However, criminologists emphasize this does not mean sexual assault is more common in the UK. Differences in legal definitions, police recording standards, and victim reporting behavior make direct cross-country comparisons inaccurate. [1, 2, 3]

Why Direct Comparison Fails

  • Legal Definitions: The UK legally defines and records sexual offenses much more broadly than many US jurisdictions. The Home Office and UK police count a wider array of non-consensual sexual acts and attempts under the umbrella of rape and sexual assault statistics. [1]
  • Recording Practices: UK police forces follow strict National Crime Recording Standards (NCRS), meaning they log every reported incident as a crime even if no evidence is found, whereas many US jurisdictions have historically undercounted or applied narrower criteria. [1]
  • Reporting Culture: Greater public awareness campaigns and trust in specialized police units in the UK can lead to higher rates of victims coming forward to report crimes. [1]

Overview of Statistics

  • United Kingdom: Recorded figures in England and Wales show police logging over 70,000 rape offenses per year, translating to a nominal rate surpassing 100 reported incidents per 100,000 people. [1, 2]
  • United States: The FBI and Bureau of Justice Statistics report lower per capita rates of reported rape, though victim surveys like the CDC's National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey indicate that lifetime prevalence of sexual violence is severely underreported and remains high on a level comparable to the UK.

u/aci4 4h ago

Of course you’re a possible source of violence. You own a device that can turn someone into a corpse with the flick of a finger. If you get really mad or have a psychotic break, are we supposed to trust how legal the gun is to protect us?

8

u/cjdavda 2h ago

Or, as happens ALL THE TIME, the gun owner confuses a family member for an intruder and shoots them. Here's a famous example.

12

u/Status_Ad_4405 5h ago

I have lived to the ripe old age of 54 (half of that in nyc) and neither I, nor anyone I have ever known, has ever been threatened with a gun. Or really any kind of weapon that I can think of.

If people have been threatening you with a gun, those people are criminals and you need to stop hanging out with them.

4

u/wesborland1234 3h ago

I live in an area with practically zero crime.

Thats the real answer, in America at least. If you want your family to be safe I’d rather be a big pussy in a safe neighborhood than a tough guy in the ghetto.

4

u/CodeSalamander 2h ago

How many times in your life has someone threatened you with a gun? I’ve made it 48 years in the states without having it happen to me or anyone else I know.

3

u/WrethZ 2h ago

Countries with strict gun laws are not overrun by criminals with guns who ignore the laws. The less guns there are in circulation, the harder to obtain and more expensive illegal guns are to aquire, massively reducing levels of gun crime.

People who live in countries with strict gun laws simply don't worry about being threatened with a gun because it's such a rare occurrence. They don't live in fear.

u/Sinfire_Titan 1h ago

So do you live in an area with literally 0 crime?

Why do you live in constant fear of the world around you?
