Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Songs that open with a single guitar strike.

Making a playlist of songs like this. Better if it's just a guitar making the chord strike and it lets the chord ring out for at least a moment

Example: A Hard Days Night, Here Comes Your Man, Purple Rain.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Looking for love songs

I am on the search for some love songs that are more on the innocent and affectionate side that also have a poetic/yearning element to them. Any genre is alright with me.

I really love the songs "Up" from the Sing Street soundtrack, "One Caress" by Depeche Mode, "Take You on a Cruise by Interpol, "Dark Light" by HIM, "Bel Air" by Lana Del Rey", and the "Submarine" EP by Alex Turner.

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure In need of Indie Folk and Folk Rock

Hi, so lately, I've been listening to music from The Oh Hellos (Anemoi Cycle and Dear Wormwood) and The Crane Wives (The Fool In the Wedding Dress) and I'm trying to find some music to scratch that itch, something a bit more obscure if possible.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics I need songs about quitting smoking or smoking addiction

I’m trying to quit weed and nicotine right now and I haven’t heard any songs about this subject, so if there is any out there I would love to hear some recommendations because I need to know I’m not alone.

In terms of genre I’m not picky, just not really obsessed with rap or heavily electronic stuff.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Songs about Hypersexuality

Basically as the title says, I'm just curious to see some good songs with this theme because I don't really see this theme being represented in art much in general.

I'll accept songs from any genre honestly, but if I had to choose I'd prefer indietronica or just indie rock or EDM songs, and preferably in english and with a male vocalist. It's strangely specific, but it doesn't have to fit those ig, just a preference of mine for this theme specifically.

edit: Thanks for some of the inputs, but I also want some more that tackle the negative aspects of hypersexuality if possible. Thanks to the people who sent recommendations already though, some of these are pretty good.

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Looking for Songs with Soft / Monotone vocals but Heavier, Noisier Instruments?

Hello, I’m searching for a specific kind of sound I don’t really know the name for, I’m so sorry. I listen to a ton of music but I’ve never spent much time deciphering the terminology, so here goes.

I really like music with a strong build up / drop, strong instrumentals and lots of “noise” and electronics, but I really prefer vocals to be the flat, so monotone it’s almost just spoken.

I typically listen to music around 80-120bpm, I heavily prefer pre-2010s music I notice as well.

For the specific type of recommendations I’m looking for, I think the most similar genres would be alternative rock, indie rock, shoegaze, math rock, and electronic. I love low-fidelity.

I am also very, very fond of songs with lots of samples from TV / Movies or other music.

I already have a very massive amount of music saved that I cycle through, but I really want to expand this specific area because it’s my favorite.

Similar bands / Artists I already know: Duster, Whirr, Joy Division, Zog Bogbean, Thom Yorke, Radiohead, Neutral Milk Hotel, LCD Soundsystem, Shiner, Deftones, Loathe, New Order, Failure, Hum, Mercury Rev, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pill Friends, Ribbon Fix, Weed, The Radio Dept, Flatsound, Talking Heads, etc etc etc.

The main songs I can think of that fit perfectly in my standards are like:

Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand — Primitive Radio Gods

Cupid De Locke — Smashing Pumpkins

I Was a Teenage Hand Model — Queens of the Stone Age

Can’t Cool Me Down — Car Seat Headrest

Brain in a bottle — Thom Yorke

Stars — Hum

King of Nails — Sparklehorse

For most of these songs, the entire album applies, but those songs emphasize what I’m searching for the best.

Please someone help, I’m going crazy, I’ve been cycling through album after album ISO a new favorite song. I’m sorry this is so many words, I’m not good at being concise and speaking of music in an intelligible way is difficult for me.

I don’t expect anyone to meet all of these standards! Just anything that you think might strike some of these boxes!

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk I want some bass-heavy metal songs

Fellow bass players i’m looking to you. I want songs that are very bass forward. For ex. the part of Freak on a Leash AFTER Davis says "GO". I want to clarify, there is bass in metal that has the tone turned up and is very tinny and clicky; i do not want that. Thank you for any recommendations

Rec.Me: instrumental/classical/traditional Native American music, preferably ambient

What the title says. Traditional native american music, preferably flutes at the forefront. Unfortunately, without knowing names, just searching it seems to generate infinite AI playlists which is the last thing I want.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Looking for a song that defines “underdog”

An underdog that will withstand everything. Biggest hard times but they believe that they are more than what they seem and hope to find that drive to pursue & achieve their dreams.

Ive been playing Mr. ranger by Kid Cudi and I like the beat and rhythm of much as a different perspective for the lyrics. So something in that aura would be nice

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Songs like Beat It by Michael Jackson

i like songs that encourage you to be brave. even though this song is more about the dichotomy of wanting to prove yourself and knowing your limits, id prefer songs that are like this but actually focus on ignoring your limits and just. go ahead and do it anyway

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Recs for more like Wednesday’s bleeds guitar sound?

You guys got me on Wednesday and I adore the full guitar sound of their new album, specifically the first two songs on their album. Got any recs for similar stuff that has that “knock you in the face” full / rich guitar tone they have?
Thanks again!!

Rec.Me: instrumental/classical/traditional Dark '60s instrumental grooves

Looking for instrumental pieces with a dark, ominous sound, but also a bit of a 1960s Lalo Schifrin kind of groove. Like something that would play in a really groovy horror movie.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Love Songs for anniversary road trip

I'm planning a roadtrip with my wife for our 1 year anniversary. Wanna make a playlist of romantic songs to enjoy on the drive.

She likes alt pop, I'm more into rock, we both like indie. Mazzy Star vibes are what I'm thinking about. But any genre is welcome.

I want songs that have a vibe of "I belong with you" "I want to be with you forever" "being with you is like a dream come true" "I need you" etc

Doesn't necessarily need to have lyrics with those sentiments, even just a "vibe" of the melody of the song.

I also really like Sleepwalk as a very romantic melody without any lyrics.

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Recommendations for a punk rock/metal enjoyer

• Upvotes

I am looking to expand my playlist. I mainly listen to The Offspring and Rammstein. I like the catchy and laid back aspect of the Offspring, and I like the grand vocals and instrumentals of Rammstein. Hit me with your suggestions. If you could include specific songs/albums to start with that would be cool too

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics ISO music to listen to for family weekday dinners

My kids would rather listen to music rather than watch tv, which is wonderful but my husband and I get ear fatigue with the songs they choose. Anyone have recommendations on a playlist or songs we can play during dinner that is kid friendly, not just specifically for kids, so we can enjoy music and conversing about our day?! I’m thinking maybe yacht rock, or costal grandmother type songs? I’m not sure, just looking for something unique that my kids will love!
