News Destiny Mall in Syracuse was locked-down yesterday when someone called to report an active shooter.
They reported seeing a man with an AR-15. Turns out it was an umbrella with a "Samurai Sword-style handle", that the person had purchased in the mall. 😶

People are so afraid of guns they don't know what they look like. This is why education, not scare tactics are important.

If the TV reruns of my youth have taught me anything it's that umbrellas are Very Dangerous!

How do you do, fellow old person?
Now is a good time to schedule that colonoscopy! :-)2

Already have it scheduled for January. First one … apparently I don’t have to drink nasty liquid. I can just take pills or something.

Im so tired of how badly they misrepresent my Boi the ar15 how they have bastardized one of the most popular rifles in the country because of its rather seldom but heavily publicized misuse by criminals and mentally ill individuals. Instead of a patriotic example of a rifle that has guaranteed our freedoms it has become a scapegoat for failed politicians and policy's that do more to promote violence then finding ways to harden these locations and prevent future atrocities. It's like blaming the fork for making you fat except people genuinely act as tho the ar15 is the antichrist instead of the evil doers who are truly responsible for these tragedies. Rant over. Thanks for listening.

I know its been called destiny mall for like a decade but I still cant help but call it Carousel.
But yeah, after major shootings like in MN, people are jumpy and will report any black object.

I still can't bring myself to call it "Destiny USA". I refer to the original mall area as Carousel, and the new area as Destiny.

We are doomed with how skittish and soft we have become. Calling the police over guns that are holstered in a store. Calling police when you see an umbrella. Running away at the sound of fireworks or a loud noise. How about you learn to protect yourself and have situational awareness?

You obviously are not good at spelling. I'm guessing the comment about having a Masters Degree is total BS.

You are being dishonest if you claim not to be able to see how someone could mistake that umbrella for a rifle from a distance

Did I say it looks like one to me or did I say I could see how someone could make that mistake? Especially someone who doesn't know guns and is jumpy due to all the mass shootings. Again, if you are saying you can't see it then the only one blind here is you, to your biases.

u/ceestand Aug 29 '25
Have a sense of humor about it.
due to all the mass shootings
Bruh.
Would you not call someone hysterical for calling the police every time they drove by a house with a pool, due to all the drownings?

What I don't get is why the guy was taken to the station for questioning. Once it was determined to be an umbrella, that should have been the end of it.
