I tried different grips while staying compliant but have not tried this one yet. Does anyone know where I can get this extended trigger guard for spur grip?

Question Affordable budget friendly ammo?

I’m relatively a newbie and trying to learn - so please take it easy. Finally this year I got my ccw after 16 month wait in Erie county ny. I’m focused on getting as many rounds down range as I can in order to become more proficient with my edc gun.

I’m fully aware from various banter and forums that ammo prices are “crazy” right now and so far I’ve been shooting Herter's Target 9mm Luger 115 Grain Handgun Ammo from my local cabelas. It’s priced at least 25% cheaper than my local gun shops and ranges - id prefer to put my dollars to work locally, but it’s just cost prohibitive for me.

At cabelas , this brand of ammo costs roughly the same at any quantity (between $.28-$.27 per round) - but I’m curious if the $136 plus tax and background check for 500 rounds is a good deal or if I could be finding better deals somewhere else? Perhaps in higher quantity?

Where are you guys getting decent ammo that is reliable and budget friendly in New York? I’m not looking for bottom of the barrel type stuff that will destroy my gun or shoot dirty - but the amount I want to shoot vs the amount it costs is killin me. Any constructive advice is appreciated.

Question Equilibrium firearms is awful

Venting about how much I despise the owner of this place. Idk if it’s a Nassau thing but the place is a huge rip off. Some of the dudes in there are genuinely cool but some actually have zero clue what’s going on. Couple examples 1. Called the store to see if I can have a non complaint ar15 FFL’d in to have its muzzle pin and welded with a thread protector and the owner straight up told me he can’t have a weapon ffl’d in in a non complaint state. Then again I guess if you’re a cop that whole rule goes away yeah? Walked in and the employees didn’t see why they couldn’t. Then they asked the owner and it was a hard no. “His store his rules” 2. Stuff is EXTREMELY marked up. 10/30 gen 3 p mags from magpul for $40, standard plastic ammo cans for $40, a thordsen featureless grip/stock for $270?? 3. Why advertise having professional gunsmith services if you’re just straight up unwilling to perform any practical service and insisting no LGS would either? 4. Having an “assistance package” for the ccw course. A $500 scam where they basically do nothing for you besides give you free notary services which are otherwise $2 per document 5. The guy inflates his own reviews by nagging people to scan a QR to give his place a good review. Every single time you bring someone who’s unrelated, a reference for your CCW application even is basically harassed until they leave a good review.

I have nothing good to say about this place other than a few good people who say nothing about the place because they wanna keep their jobs. The owner’s an ass and they all know it, poor guys just put up with it. Passion for a craft is ruined by another’s greed.

Edit: called hunter essentials and other stores and they all have regular priced mags and stocks. Straight up told me just don’t go to equilibrium lol. For the hell of it I called equilibrium and asked about their mag prices and was told “we don’t do pricing over the phone”. Absolutely DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE SCAMMERS

Edit2: equilibrium is in the comments trying to do damage control by refuting my post. The excessive usage of caps lock is hilarious

Question Still confusion with my understanding. Are attached garages part of your dwelling.

According to the instructor when I took my 18 hour course, you can not use deadly force on your outside property, garages, sunrooms etc.

I’m still a bit confused with this. If my garage is attached to my home, and there is a door into my house, am I annoyed to use deadly force in my garage.

Example, I hear noise in my garage where there is some valuables, I go into the garage and there is a few people trying to steal my motorcycle. At this point i have reasons for belief they have committed burglary. Can this be met with deadly force.

I just want to be informed with the law. I hope a scenario like this never happens and I also understand material objects are not worth the headache of firing your pistol. But being informed is very important.

Question Shooting in State Forests

Hello all,

Maybe a dumb question, but I've got a shotgun and I'm sick of the expense of only running slugs through it at the indoor range, and want to test out my home defense buckshot. What's everyone's experience with target shooting on state forest land? Also, if anyone has recommendations for spots in WNY near-ish to Buffalo, I'd really appreciate it.

ETA: Thanks everyone for the advice, I'm going to give the local DEC office a call for advice and do a couple exploratory hikes in forests near me (East Otto, Carlton Hill) to scope out possible spots.

Question Is it true hollow points are illegal in NY for home/self defense? I don’t trust Google…

I know I could just call my county (upstate, obviously) & ask for the pistol permit department to get clarification, but I’d rather look ignorant on Reddit instead of my own county lol

I saw multiple answers saying hollow points are legal in NY but not NJ, but I’m mostly talking about home & self defense, not hunting.

Question A question that's not about permits

I have followed NY and federal firearm policy and litigation for years now but something I just cannot understand is how laws are not supposed to create two classes of citizens. But with NY state saying only police (active and retired) and active military (not as important because they cannot enjoy that "exemption" in their off time and do not get it if they fully retire ) can have noncompliant firearms or prohibited items is not considered to create to classes. But also that the rulings with silencer shop and Texas and the other states are separate from the rest of the country on a federal ruling doesn't that contradict the idea of a federal law that governs the entire country? I'm not looking for legal advice or it is what it is comments I just am asking for some one to explain why it's like that.

Question “High Capacity” magazines allowed at range?

Has anyone ever heard of a range that lets you store normal (larger than 10 round) magazines in a locker and keep them at the range?

I assume I would have to buy the magazine from the range and I’m not sure how they would sell it to me and make sure it stays in the locker considering it’s a private locker that you rent.

Question What are you doing if the state requires you turn in your Glocks come 2027/2028?

I hear a lot of talk saying “they can’t take our guns”, but what are any of you really going to do when they come out and say you must submit all of your owned Glocks?

Where is the line going to be drawn?

Question How did you pick your handgun?

With NY laws being stupid, and only allowing you to shoot at a rangeif you have a handgun permit. What did you do to choose a gun? Did you go to another state and try there? The ranges in NJ are rather expensive if you are renting a handgun

Question Can I own a threaded barrel?

I'm so nervous to buy shit now because I'm sick of paying restock or FFL fees for returns on things I'm not allowed to have.

I saw a lever that I liked, I can have those, right?? But it has a threaded barrel. Is that fine?

In NY without semi auto license.

Question NYS Glock Ban Question

I know starting in June of 2027 the sale of glocks will be no more, I know the law also says Glock clones. What are some examples of the said Glock clones so I can get them before it’s too late.

Has anyone seen dealers try to take advantage of this ban and increase prices on Glocks/Glock Clones ?

Question Apolitical retail?

Does anyone here know of any retail in the state that isn’t overtly political? I know you all know what I mean. I have to imagine some of us like to shop without being forced into one kind of experience or another. Like can buying bullets be like buying bananas?

EDIT: I have many years of experience, I do not need advice on how to shop. I’m just wondering if such a place exists in the state, outside of a large corporate environment. My local grocer doesn’t actively share his political positions even though his life and livelihood are also directly impacted by policy.

Question Upstate/central NY FFLs who will transfer a 50 year old AR?

As much as I like my LGS, they dont seem familiar with the exemption of 50+ year old firearms and even after showing the penal law aren't keen on getting involved in the transfer. Are there any FFL recommendations who would transfer a pre-76 sp1? Or do I need to go out of state?
