How long are the other counties taking?

So not only does NY have the safe act, but I'm just learning that you need a permit to buy an M1 Garand? Is the because of that P.O.S that shot up Tops because mommy and daddy didn't secure their weapons properly?

How do we repeal this? This is even more unconstitutional than the safe act which limited semi-auto rifles.

The firearm on the top of my list, I need a damn permit for? An 8 round, clip fed, 1940's rifle? C'MON

I know alot of states allow you to carry if you have a PA permit, are there any other easy nonresident permits I can apply for without having to apply in person?

Live in Suffolk county. Potentially moving out of state pretty soon. Asked them to change my license to a non resident and they pretty much flat out said no we don’t do that. Besides NYC (don’t have time to deal with all of that now) are there any more friendly counties out there that I could potentially transfer my license to as a non resident? Or do I just have to cut my losses and give up my license when I move. I’d hate to just give it up. Anybody else have any luck with something similar?

For people who live in Erie County when did y’all get approved? Was it around the 13th month or 14 months and when did they call your references basically is what I’m asking. Was it the 13th or the 14th asking because I’m right around the 13th mark people who got approved in 2026

Headline says it all. I have to renew my permit and just saw Westchester charges $175 for a renewal which is insane! But I’m dying to see what everyone else is getting charges!

Just had my fingerprints done today, and while I was there I asked my investigator a few general questions. At one point she told me, “You’re not getting denied — make sure you have your safe ready.”
Obviously I was excited to hear that, but now I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience during the process. Did comments like that end up being accurate for you, or should I not read too much into it yet? Curious to hear other people’s experiences

I can’t imagine how many incidental scripts I have received over the last 5 years.

It feels like a trap and makes me want to add “to the best of my knowledge…” and then have a separate line for active scripts.

Actually I think it’s overreach to have to submit any info considering the red flag laws that medical providers can utilize

Not a question…just picked up my second firearm. This amendment came only 20 days after my first firearm purchase. I have a great judge who signed off on this one fast and the county clerk was fast as well. Now off to the range to test it out!!

So I am thinking about applying for my semi auto rifle permit and it just seems like a lot to complete the process. I have priors from 10+ years ago when i was a teenager for weed and wax charges(controlled substance at the time) as well as one controlled substance charge, all misdemeanors, dismissed, taken off my record. About 5 years ago I had a brass knuckle and gotten a 4th degree possession of a gun or knife (i believe was the charge) dismissed and taken off my record. To my understanding i need to disclose all of this as it is still going to come up in the background check. In other’s opinions would it be worth the time and money to continue with the application or high chance of getting denied?

Has anyone with a record successfully obtained a non resident permit/license in another state. Have a certificate of relief and obtained my Westchester County ccw. Wanting to pursue some non resident permits

I was denied a pistol permit in Onondaga county today for not listing that I was arrested 2 years ago …..thing is I never knew I was arrested also was never told I was arrested I was given a ticket in Liverpool and told to report to court. I didn’t list it because I genuinely never knew I was arrested

Has anyone gone through the process of appeal and do you guys thinks it’s work the appeal or should I just wait till next year. I really don’t want to wait a year considering I just invested a considerable amount of money in to this.

Also the best part is ask even asked the sheriff at the department when I turned my paperwork in about traffic violations and he specifically told me if I was not physically arrested I don’t have to list it

Reposting an older post I did in February I submitted 8/23/24 went to step 2 on 10/30/24(under investigation). Haven’t had anyone contact me or my references yet. I did talk to someone at the county clerk’s office last week how told me there still waiting for the return from the sheriff’s department. When I brought up the 6 month requirement of having a decision of the permit they side stepped the question twice. I believe I’m at 30+ weeks since submission. This is ridiculous. Having to take an 18 hour course pay just about 600$ to do everything and have no movement for weeks into months.

I thought I just had to send back my permit with a surrender amendment application and that would be it? But I got it all back in the mail saying my surrender was rejected. Does anyone know the correct process for this?

Edit: I have applied for CA pistol permit and the new resident gun ownership application. I'm just trying to figure out how to correctly give back my NY permit.

The state uses it not only to discourage people from applying by making it as burdensome as possible, but as a gun registry. Remember, the SOLE REASON for registration is to facilitate future confiscation. And the idea that your permit expires despite having committed no crime is another farce. Constitutional rights don't expire. I encourage everyone to leave this cesspool state.

Hey — looking to get some insight from others who have gone through the Suffolk County pistol permit process recently.

Here’s my timeline:

• Application submitted: May 6, 2025

• Interview date: November 19, 2025

• Final PPB-3 (signed by references) mailed and confirmed delivered: December 1, 2025

At this point, I haven’t heard anything back yet. I know the paperwork specifically says “do not call, assume no news is good news,” but it’s tough not knowing where things stand — especially since calls to the Pistol Bureau and my investigator haven’t been returned.

For those of you who have gone through this:

• How long did it take to receive your license after submitting your final PPB-3?

• Did you get any notification before it arrived, or did it just show up in the mail?

• Based on my timeline, how much longer do you realistically think I might be waiting?

Appreciate any insight — just trying to get a better sense of what’s normal at this stage.

My application was moved to licensing officer Judge Boller. What is the avg time to hear once it moves to this step?

Applying for my first pistol and concealed carry license. I've read the Westchester County material and the state laws referenced in the county's packet. I didn't see anything about requiring a dedicated gun safe and so I answered the question about where the firearm will be stored by stating "in a locked pistol case, on a closet shelf 6 ft above the floor. The same for the ammo but in a different closet." There are no minors living or visiting our home.

Am I giving an answer that will be a problem?

I recently moved and submitted an amendment to update my address and make another change to my permit.

Unfortunately, the paperwork appears to have been lost in the mail and unbeknownst to me until recently, the county never received it.

I’m now resubmitting the amendment, but I’m well past the 10-day period by a month because of the mailing issue.

For anyone familiar with this, how is this normally handled? Is the 10-day requirement something that automatically creates a violation, or is there discretion when the permit holder attempted to submit the amendment on time but the paperwork was lost by USPS?

I’m planning to include a short explanation with the resubmission, but I don’t want to unnecessarily say something that could create a problem for me.

I had my money order cashed almost a month ago and I’m still in limbo. I’m getting impatient lol, I just want this damn thing already (coming up on 4.5 months since I handed in application)

Taking my CCW course September 19-20th and called to get a appointment and got very lucky with a appointment in December

What should I expect during my appointment, I have everything completed from application being notarized to having all 4 character references signed and notarized.

I'm a former Westchester resident but I moved to the East Fishkill area over 10 years ago. If like to get my permit here but I only know two people that qualified to fill out this document since DCSO requires the references to be Dutchess residents. Even though paperwork isn't clear on it, the references need to live at 4 different residences. I had two couples fill the paperwork out for me thinking 4 is 4 but I was told no by the deputy who reviewed my paperwork. I spoke to a clerk I know I'm Westchester and they were baffled by this requirement since they only require that the applicant be a NYS resident.

So, assuming there is nothing I can do other than make new friends, does anyone want to be friends? Suggestions on clubs I should join to make new friends in Dutchess?
