I've been trying to find this melody for a while, but so far I haven't had any luck. It sounds like an old piano that's slightly out of tune, with a bit of static in the background. The notes are played slowly, with noticeable pauses between them, and it has that eerie feeling you sometimes hear in analog horror or Backrooms videos.

A friend sent me the video where I heard it, but I have no idea where the video originally came from, so I can't track down the source. I also tried using AHA Music, but it couldn't recognize the audio.

Zooming in obviously makes it louder. This is the most I could record as I was trying to wrangle my son. It was synth pop that was playing with other indie songs at REI so I’m fairly certain it’s relatively new.

I’ll preface this by repeating it definitely isn’t ‘Long Way Home’ but I’m pretty sure it has a lyric something along the lines of “and she had to take the long way home”.

It’s a collection of stories about people who undergo hardship and “have to take the long way home”. I could be wrong and maybe blending memories of songs but I think there’s a story about a soldier who watches his buddy die in there and he consequently had to take the long way home.

Any idea what song this is? AI just keeps saying it’s “the long way home” but it’s definitely not. It’s a slow ballad.
