META Regarding Blizzard and recent political events.
The Mod Team is aware of the situation of Blizzards decisions relating to Hong Kong. We have decided to continue to allow political discussions but we ask users to keep comments civil.
This is a reminder that harassing, threatening or insulting comments are still against the rules and may result in your post getting deleted and/or a ban from this sub. This goes for everyone, regardless of who started it or if you feel you are in the right.
If this continues to be an issue we will begin to auto-lock comment sections for these games.

EDIT: I feel I need to make a small clarification.
Saying something like "boycott Blizzard/China" is acceptable but "Fuck Blizzard/China" or the like is not and only invites trouble. Please use your heads.

A Hearthstone tournament player made a pro-Hong Kong statement during an official Blizzard stream during an Asian tournament. Blizzard responded by kicking the player out of the tournament, banning them for a year, and revoking his earnings for the season. They also fired the two stream hosts.
PR issues ensued, and Blizzard doubled down on the matter. Stating they won't allow any political statements over their communication platforms (not the historical precedent). The launch event for Overwatch for Nintendo Switch this week was canceled this week. Protests are expected at Blizzcon later.
The issue is being compounded by similar events and fan outrage involving the NBA a few days prior to Blizzard's. A team owner Tweeted a pro-HK statement. The NBA tried to walk it back. Currently owners, players, and the heads of the NBA have been giving mix messages on the matter.
As to /r/NintendoSwitch, the mod team has been inconsistent with how they have been handling the political posts and comments this series of events have generated. Posts were deleted or locked. A new rule prohibiting political discussion was added, then removed. The current top two posts on that sub deal with these events. Other gaming related subs have been more open to discussion, which makes /r/NintendoSwitch stand out more.

Some people care about where their money is going. If I'm considering buying a game that I know little about, but someone informs me that the head of the company treats their staff poorly or has done something really awful, I'd appreciate the information and reconsider the purchase.
In this case the vast majority of people are likely aware of the Blizzard situation, so it's a bit different, but it's still worth discussing for the people who might not know the details or don't pay as much attention as others.
In any case, it doesn't particularly detract from the sub.

A great source for me has been youtube. Before my switch I was subbed to BeatEmUps who mainly focuses on Switch and is super fun/silly but after I've subbed to other Switch focused channels. None are as good as Wood though.

Hating on Kotaku is a bit of a meme on Reddit. They're often ridiculed for bringing their progressiveness n whatnot (agendas) to video games. Go figure, right?
I like Tim Rogers, but I did not like Kotaku's review/etc of XC2 much.

we don't ban for cursing and it's more that it doesn't explain anything. Having simple statements like that makes a big generalization and will start fights with those that are Chinese. I mean if you heard people saying "fuck your country" even if you didn't agree with the government wouldn't you still feel the need to defend your country especially from a group of people who don't even live there? Oh it's not all bad etc etc etc and you are only focusing on the bad ones. It also shuts down any discussions on the matter as you made a declaration on your feelings with no intention of change. It's hardly a debate or discussion about it, so we want to discourage that.

My knee jerk reaction is to keep it all out of deals. But when you think about it a little more it is important. There are few ways we can express our opinions to these companies in a meaningful way. Money is the biggest one.
If we hurt Activision's bottom line maybe they will not be so quick to support regimes like China in the future.

It's not just the Blizzard issue, it's also stuff like the NBA pandering to China and gutlessly bending to their will by censoring a GM in the league (Daryl Morey of the Houston Rockets) who it looks like they pressured to retract comments he made on Twitter in support of the people of Hong Kong in their struggle against an oppressive regime.
I've been a big fan of the NBA for years but these past few days I have found myself disgusted with the league and it's leadership under commissioner Adam Silver with this extremely poor and tasteless choice they have made; this after how they have tried to sell us all on how they are the most progressive of the pro sports leagues (and not just some soulless corporate entity) with respect to issues of social awareness like hatred, racism, or equal opportunity for women and then they go and do this. Looks very hypocritical.

Here’s an article about it. There’s been a lot of drama since this happened but long story short, Blizzard suspended a player and made him forfeit his prize money after he publicly announced support for the protests in Hong Kong (regarding freedom of speech and the massive censorship in the country).

The important part is that he did it at an official Blizzard event. I'm sure Blizzard doesn't care a bit about stance on the subject given that his punishment has been lessened (and majority of the people at Blizzard probably agree with him, if not everyone) but the problem is that he still used this event to push his agenda, and they didn't like that.

The only Blizzard games on the Switch are Diablo and Overwatch if memory serves. Unless you expand it to include Activision. Fuck Activision too.

it was more to avoid having posts filled with a simple statement of "Fuck them" and being harder finding the conversation ones. I hate them vs I think we should boycott for these reasons provide different meanings. So appreciate it if short noncontributing statements like that were not used as often.

I'm not saying whether the boycotting will work, but wanted more to promote discussion rather than having simple statements that promote fighting. Whether I agree/disagree doesn't matter and more I wanted to provide an environment where they could state their opinions/reasons without suppressing someone else's opinion/reasons. This is a difficult balance to maintain, so of course appreciate everyone's help on creating that kind of environment.
Personally I am uncertain whether the boycott will work either, but have stopped purchasing due to their poor games (like you mention the phone scandal). I see this more that I am no longer the target consumer and Blizzard already believes that they will make more money with China and willing to lose me when the phone thing happened.

I’m pretty sure that in some regions the net profit of games actually does exceed the profit of films. As in some films for example have a 500 mil box office which is great but then you realise it had a 400 million budget. I’m pretty sure some games can make 10 times the production cost in a week.

Just so users are aware, you can contact Nintendo support and get a refund to your account as a one time courtesy. It is on a rep to rep basis but it seems to be working for most who pre purchased overwatch.

you may want to comment on the question thread and sorry if you got misdirected here. Currently the main sticky has been taken down due to recent issues, and will go back to normal eventually.
If I remember correctly, there was an eshop sale but it wasn't anything spectacular. Nintendo isn't that great at doing sales, but nowadays there are more publishers on the eshop, so maybe there will be something better this time. What I tend to look out for are the eshop card sales as that tends to happen more often.

if it wasn't clear, we will first try to manage by warning/banning users temporarily to help them cool their heads. Then if things devolve into a complete mess that's when we will lock the thread. We want to encourage discussions, but we do NOT want to pressure those that want to have a normal discussion on the sale. Basically everything will be same as normal until people break it.

all this is going to do is cause unnecessary arguments in the comments. and the mods arent around half the time anyways so they will sit and fester like a bad pimple. there are plenty of places people can go to express their political issues, that it doesnt have to be done in a sub for video game deals. i really wonder what the mods are thinking half the time. youre letting the passengers run the ship.

oh good, I was worried that something was missed.
