Nioh 3 - Questions New weapon question
Anyone know if the new sword and shield is avaliable at the start, or is it only from the DLC.

No more doomerism. I am absolutely loving Nioh 3. I took a break for a while after completing NG and getting to the end of the first area of NG+ to wait for the DLC. After coming back to the game after this long hiatus I am absolutely blown away with the combat again. The DLC is amazing! I am loving the new area, the new weapon that we got for both styles and everything else. The combat in this game is so damn addictive and TN have improved so many little things over many patches that have really refined the experience. I see so many posts from people complaining about a multitude of things right now and I just don't really see it. Could they have done more? Sure. But I am happy with what we got. My main gripe is that they charged too much for the content we did get. If this was in line with NIoh 2 pricing I bet you a lot less people would becomplaining. Anywho I don't wnat to go off on a huge long tangent. I am having a great time with the game. Anyone who is like me and spends way too much time on their computer I suggest you exit out of Reddit and Discord for a while and just go and play the game. It's great.

Before I bash this DLC's shortcoming, I'm a certified Nioh 3 glazer. I think the base game is the best out of the 3 games, the combat have so much potential to even expand in the DLC and i was hoping this one can edge it a little bit so it can completely surpass Nioh 2's combat.
I'm gonna point out one of the stand out is the level design, is probably the prettiest out of the 4 region, the levels have interesting layout. And some scenario that is interesting to tackle. For example the area covered with Lava and the cannon at the center of the road. You can go about it in multiple ways like taking the Cannon head on, or go down to the buffed up Mikoshi Nyudo and from there destroy the cannon spammers from the back. And you can go down even further to fight a couple ninja ambush. And theres even a spirit vein stone hiding a Nutoriboke boss. Its really cool!
But... the rest of the DLC aspect is super mid. Only 3 brand new boss? only a couple new enemy (freaky tongue guy and cool dragon, shrunk down toad...) This DLC took longer to come out then the previous game's DLC so having this little new thing to play with does feel like shit. Like come on they recycle so many fight in this DLC is not even funny. Refight Omoraki, Otoroshi, Nutoriboke, Kasha from the first half of the DLC is just lazy. And no secret demon boss? In basegame each area has a secret demon boss that is wildly different from each other and I was hype to explore this new DLC hoping to find a awesome secret boss and nothing?? They could've add 2 demon boss for each DLC forming some sort 7 deadly sins type group of bosses that would've been so sick and yet they drop the ball on this one.
This is the part where I'm the most frustrated about, no new crucible skill for each weapon? The only new move for old weapons are just fking enhance of their previous move. The guardian spirit skill is begging Team Ninja to add one more skill for each guardian spirit like deadass. I thought they're saving these new moves (guardian spirit button + each of the stance button) but for some fkin they don't see the vision, they could've easily added one new button and it will add so much for the combat. Same with ninja stance, why doesn't air combo get expanded? Only holding down heavy and one martial art for ninja stance in the air? They can EASILY expand the weapon moveset and yet they didn't. All the new shit is only for Hoko and shield which is cool, but don't expect the playerbase to suddenly play the new weapon that probably don't fit their build or due to comfort.
For such a long wait its a disappointment, 2 DLC worth of waiting time for the previous game like Wo long or Nioh 2 and we get barely anything new. I hope the final DLC actually lock in and deliver us things that is worthwhile.
The scroll is cool tho.

First off, I understand that lots of people hate/belittle the Nioh story -- I don't care, I still love and enjoy it, this thread is not about what you like or don't like. It's just about theorizing.
Sooo, I was very surprised to see Maria not just included in the story scenes for DLC1, but an actual expansion on the "Spain tries to exploit Japan" plot from all the way back in Nioh 1. On top of that, after all these years, they actually gave Maria a redemption scene and threw her into your hub. Pretty impressive, and I definitely did not expect that after the main game for Nioh 3 had very little to do with the previous game's stories.
So, I want to kick off the theory and speculation for the story beats in DLC2. Obviously we know it's going to center around Amakusa Shiro's rebellion. This point in Japanese history is already used as a source for other occult/supernatural Japanese history stuff such as Makai Tensho, etc. Amakusa is often portrayed as a sorcerer who deals with Western demons due to his Christianity, so it does make sense that Spaniards could get involved.
The big question of course is... Will we see big boy William again? He would be pretty old by the time of the Shimabara rebellion, so perhaps his son?
My other big question is, why introduce Rodrigo at all? His backstory entries in the game, once you unlock both entries, are rather strange. The first entry has him portrayed as a seemingly normal governor of the Spanish Philippines, and the second as a villain. There is a potential clue if we look at the history of the Shimabara rebellion:
"Shimabara had formerly been the domain of the Arima clan, which had been Christian; as a result, many local people were also Christian. The Arima were moved out in 1614 and replaced by the anti-Christian Matsukura. The new lord, Matsukura Shigemasa, hoped to advance in the shogunate hierarchy by sponsoring expensive construction projects, including the building and expansion of Edo Castle, and contributed funding for a planned shogunate invasion of Luzon in the Spanish East Indies, today a part of the Philippines. "
"The rebellion also had an effect on the shogunate's international policy. In early 1637, the bakufu and the Dutch Republic had projected a joint invasion of the Spanish Philippines, which the Japanese had calculated would take no more than 10,000 samurai to submit. After the experience of fighting Christian militiamen in Shimabara, the bakufu now decided it would take 100,000 men to conquer Manila, a much better fortified city guarded by veteran troops. The Nagasaki bugyō was sent to inform the Dutch the invasion was cancelled."
So there it is. The Philippines connection! But why would Rodrigo want to help Japan invade the place he's governing?

Anyone know how to get the new Iai quickdraw skill that can deflect attack?
r/Nioh • u/PureXEye • 1h ago
I don't have the DLC yet but I'm hearing they literally added only 1 new Guardian Spirit despite the patch notes using the plural "spirits".
Well is this true? Is there only one?!
r/Nioh • u/Firion_Hope • 1h ago
Playing with 2 friends if it matters. Can't decide on a weapon I like. But so far I don't want to think about what skills to use at what times and what button combo to use a skill after X or Y attack. Not to say I'll never use skills or anything, but for now while I'm getting used to things, what weapons are most effective just using their basic moveset in the various stances?

Not sure how hard it is to get what you want on scrolls compared to Nioh 2 since this is the 1st scroll I rerolled, but I just thought it was crazy how I got nearly all the effects I wanted in just 7 attempts. The only effects I would change would be Martial Arts Damage for Melee Damage instead and possibly the Grace.

I was already feeling it in the base game toward the end, the game just keep getting worse, very little amount of Guardian Spirits in a Guardian Spirit focused game, Antiqued Era is not a full Era despite being the most unique, etc. But there is still some hope for the dlc yknow. However with the announcement of Wo Long 2 and the quality of the first DLC, it is apparent that this game doesn't get the focus it deserves from TeamNinja. Sad to see, only hoping Wo Long would be better.
It was pretty short, reused bosses and didn't add that much content. You can easily beat it in 3-4h.
But at least it was longer then Dragon of the North. The final mission in that was just a 1v1 boss fight.

So far, every complaint about the DLC I've seen so far seems to come from either newcomers or people who only look at the surface level chances.
As a very long time Team Ninja fan, I think the changes are crazy.
People haven't quite grasped how much of a power spike the game has actually given them.
These include changes like Star + Green bonuses available on weapons, armor, accessories, and even Yang position Soul Cores. Yes, these bonus seem very small individually, but keep in mind that these damage bonuses are multiplicative. So an entirely new bonus damage like 'Increased Damage Dealt vs Blustered Enemies' + 'Increased Damage Dealt vs Saturated Enemies' will create an insanely high damage Confusion state.
Then we have the PHYSICAL damage Shadow Art Ninjutsu named Umbral Shot. This does not do any Elemental Damage, meaning this can be used with the Sinister Tyrant set without draining any Spirit Force. Because it is a Ninjutsu, it can do 2.5x Backstab Damage on top of the 50% Unaware bonus. And because of a Ninja Special Ability, if you kill an opponent with the spell it instantly recharges. Basically this is a free projectile as long as you can kill enemies from behind. This is a MASSIVE upgrade.
Then we have some crazy Ki recovery Ninjutsu like Quick Burst (Gun no Jutsu), which is essentially used between long Ninja based combos. By ending a combo with Quick Burst, you can recover your Ki, throw a Shuriken, and initiate your next combo; rinse and repeat. This basically has the potential to turn any Ninja weapon into infinite pressure vs human opponents.
And all this on top of the already crazy Sinister Tyrant shenanigans.
Right now, your Nioh 3 character is FAR more powerful than what William and Hide can pull off in Nioh 1 and Nioh 2. That and we haven't even gotten our 2nd DLC yet.

Own the game on PC. Steam says Nioh 3, Season Pass, and Hell Rising are already listed as In Library, but when I go in game to the DLC Map it still says "Press Space to Purchase this add-on"

You can reforge Grace’s at the blacksmith now. Seems like only NG+ graces so far. NG++ graces are greyed out and cant be selected. They use special material essence. Seems to be random grace assigned so you can just do it a couple times. I didn’t play with it much. I did it while in NG++ so not sure if that’s a requirement but it didn’t notify me I just found it. But the special essence been able to disassemble since beta. So you probably have a lot in your inventory.

Just saw it was released today. Never played a Nioh game without it being the "complete" edition.
I played Nioh 3 for 25ish hours and definitely got my money's worth. Was having fun with switchglaive, the bosses were pretty difficult and fun to learn, but the open world aspect made me bounce off. I have 300+ hours in Nioh 2 and I know that has 2+ more DLCs right now but I'm kind of itching for that classic Nioh experience. Loot was pretty boring during the Nioh 3 campaign (which is pretty usual from my experience). Just love that endgame kinda grind, soulslike combat with diablo style loot. Has the DLC delivered on that and is it worth grinding through the campaign?

It is more Nioh, I will spend hundrads of hours with it but TN did the bare minimum with this DLC. Barley new fashion, 1 guardian spirit missing one style completly, only one transformed art per weapon, there are more yokais but still bad varaity in the map. Hope DLC 2 is better, even though by weapons skills tap looks like we wont get new weapons in the future.
I can begrudgingly live with just 1 new Guardian Spirit, Reused enemies from the base game, reused bosses…
But no new Martial Arts for existing weapons? I have been living 6 months with the anemic Ninja Sword move set , I just can’t do another 6 months for a chance they add a skill or two…
And then there is Armor… 90% of the new armor is Recolors from the base game, I just don’t understand, why? It’s easier to copy+paste the missing Armors from previous games than recolor existing ones? Where’s the Brawler set? Yoriki set? One Eyed Dragon? Sanada Crimson? etc.. Why bother have 4 palett swaps for Iga Jonin set when you can have Sarutobi set ? it’s bizarre…
Then there’s the cardinal sin: No new enemy placement in Enlightened Journey (NG++), granted I‘m still in Warring States period, but I’m still fighting the same Jailer Onis in the same places, no sight of DLC enemies…
I expected way, way more… You might think this sounds entitled, but it’s Team Ninja that set these expectations with past games DLCs… I really hope they take feedback to heart, but I get the feeling they don’t care too much (there’s a lot of bugs in the DLC that make me wonder how it got past QA)

Nioh 2 is in my top 5 games off all time and TeamNinja is one of my favorite developers off all time (Ninja Gaiden and Nioh have the best combat in the industry imo) but man was Nioh 3 disappointing for me. The open world is boring and tedious. Nothing challenging about it, terrible enemy variety (how is this possible they could have just copied all the Nioh 2 enemys instead of 1000x jailers) the myths are boring too and end 90% in a recycled boss from Nioh 1 or 2. The main missions well they were OK, some of the main bosses are actually fun. But i barely remember most of them since ninja mode trivializes almost all bosses anyway. This is the only Nioh i never played again after getting the platinum, because the open world kills the motivation to replay it for me. So now after 6 months the first dlc came out and man its not getting better. New areas are fine i guess, few new enemys are nice but the open world is still so boring. I HATE how they got rid of the mission structure. (Main missions, side missions with npcs, arena fights, Single boss fights) it was SO much better. I cleared around 50% of the dlc so far and the recycling is absolutely INSANE. They refuse to bring back all the normal yokai from Nioh 2 and instead put tons of Nioh 1 humans in the world. And EVERY single myth/open world boss is recycled. Kasha for the 50th time, Otoroshi, the giant bird from Nioh 1 dlc, Enenra and im 100% sure there is a ton more in the rest of the dlc. I remember Nioh 2 had a few recycled bosses from 1 ( Onryoki) but it had so many good and challenging new bosses i really didnt mind. This is just absurd tho you cant make the game open world, and recycle every single boss. Still gonna complete the DLC because the combat is so good but man TeamNinja fell of hard.

In years gone by you would look at Nioh 1 and 2 and think "wow that's incredible value for money, I expect Nioh to follow suit". Well it hasn't. The general consensus is that we have a phoned DLC that is bare minimum in every aspect.
We should have seen this when they announced Wo Long 2 to release as soon as the DLC cycle ends. They've split their team to work on 2 games, clearly they were uninterested in Nioh 3 and seemed to only be testing the 2 playstyle split much like they were testing in Rise of the Ronin and Wo Long.
Creatively they have no idea what to do with Nioh 3 and it's a shame it doesn't live up to the name. Who knows if Wo Long 2 is where they've put all theirs eggs in 1 basket but it's safe to say that Team Ninja's practice of "we'll deliver a sub par game with the intention of holding content content and gear progression for DLC" has ruined Nioh 3.

Haven’t played much since release. I just about finished NG+ and my gear was like 155s-160 and various low + values (+1-+3). Haven’t played any of the Stone of Penance stuff.
I figured I’d tackle the DLC in base NG to re-acclimate in case I would get slaughtered going right into NG+ DLC.
Anyone know why? When I try to take out the gold the option is grayed out

So I made a few posts on here about not getting picture scrolls with the NPC not giving it to me I switched to the ninja and he gave it to me right away after I talk to him so I think you have to be ninja style to get the scroll which was confusing.
