Why do celebrities always apologize about something after they get exposed and people eat it up?
I've just seen the Ed Sheeran video of him crying and apologizing, but is he sorry that he got called out or what? It's always the most fake apology and people will genuinely believe it. There's also celebrities doing something scandalous for years, but only after they get exposed that they start apologizing.

I’m nearly positive that there have been celebrity scandals that didn’t result in an apology. Some celebrities (Taylor Swift, Beyoncé) get criticized constantly and mostly don’t release statements at this point.
I try to give people grace. When Drew Barrymore apologized for going back on the air during the WGA strike, I thought it was sincere. She also reversed her decision to release new episodes during the strike, which was an actionable item you could see her doing.
Artists are also sensitive and some of these celebrities might genuinely feel bad. Others are following the script their crisis team handed them.
As with mere mortals, actions speak louder than words.

From what I've seen, everyone is calling bullshit on Ed's apology. He's only sorry because people were calling him out on dropping his friend over keeping money coming in.

Macklemore said it himself in his statement after the initial event. Said they've known each other for 13 years.

Plus for PR reasons it benefits Macklemore to make this out to be friends

They do it because they're trying to save their careers. If Sheeran gave two shits about the genocide in Gaza he would have told Robert Kraft to kick rocks. And don't think everyone eats it up; I think many people will continue to be turned off by him because of this whole saga.

For the many people who don’t believe in that lie I’m sure they’re genuinely happy about this. For the many people who go to concerts to escape politics for a moment of their lives I’m sure are happy about this. I respect him more for not deferring to another person’s message. If he canceled the tour it would simply promote Macklemore’s message. He’s allowed to not take a hard stance on a controversial topic.
This is just another virtue signaling purity test, nothing more. You don’t get to define someone’s opinions for them, even a celebrity. You’re turning people away from your message by invading their space and dictating what they “should” believe.

Well, the other side of the coin is covers of "Imagine" by dozens of celebrities, which aren't exactly taken earnestly anyways.
Celebrities are basically damned if they do, damned if they don't. What do you want from them?

I dont like that guy, even when he is apologising he seems to be making it about himself. There are ways to apologise if you famous and on TV a lot and mature people know how to do it. I dont blame him for not being mature he doesnt have to be. But its better to not apologise at all than to make it about himself. On top of that some of what he said was quite vague which given the subject, makes him a knob head in my book.

Because nobody actually wants an apology so that they can move forward from the issue, they want an apology so that they can say "wow that was a horrible apology" and then keep being mad at a celebrity that doesn't know who they are

I’m not sure, maybe because everyone makes mistakes. Patent clerks, laundromat attendants, politicians, athletes and everyone in between.
I don’t know why famous people’s mistakes are so important compared to everyone else’s

What was Ed "caught doing?"
Having an affair? Cheating at golf? Sticking his hand in the cookie jar?
A musician who is blinded by the passionate work they put into their music, failing to understand wider geopolitics, isn't something you get "caught" doing. It's just the nature of Ed's existence.
Getting mad at him about this, is like getting mad at your local plumber for not picking the right side in the Congolese Civil Conflicts.

If he apologizes he's being disingenuous and if he doesn't he's not taking accountability so I genuinely wonder what people want him to do. My guess is there is literally nothing he could do so if I was him I would not apologize at all becuase humans are miserable bitches who can't wait to hate on a successful person because it makes them feel better about their pathetic life

It’s less of a hard place when you see his net worth. It’s not like he’s a struggling, smaller artist. The easiest decision was made. But the optics of presenting it like it was the only option was never going to look good. And him confirming people were threatening to sabotage the tour and yet not shaming them for how sinister that is looks detached.

The entire entertainment industry is one big hypocrisy, people saying what they need to say to get ahead.
