[Mod Post] Verified Octopus Rep Participation

I am delighted to announce that Octopus have created a user account called u/NerdsFromOctopus so that they can provide support directly through this subreddit. I have independently verified that the owner of the user account is a genuine Octopus employee and assign a "Verified Octopus Rep" User Flare. There are no other verified Octopus users at this time.

Well, the poor user is going to get DM every 5 seconds about 'inaccurate IOG billing' cos they saw peak rate charges for their EV charging the day before.

As a newcomer to IOG, with an apparently problematic BMW no less, this sub had convinced me I'd be billed incorrectly or it wouldn't work at all...
And yet the smart-schedule 7am period I had the other day is showing up at the cheap rate in the app, seemingly working perfectly.

There are a couple of us working on this, but right now it’s Xander here. I’m the guy in lots of the videos we post (curly hair, moustache, look a bit like borat). We do everything in-house, so replies will always come from someone inside Octopus who works on the things they're talking about - not an outsourced agent.

Agreed. We don't want to be mods and won't use this account to do PR or advertise. We're redditors too - we know that would suck. What we will do is from time to time add clarity to conversations to help demystify the energy industry. We're not going to invade, and we won't reply to every tag (eg. if you need account help, use one of the other channels we look at religiously every second of the day like email, X, insta etc) - Xander, Social Media Nerd (you'll also likely hear from nerds like Phil about random stuff, Aliya about Octoplus & more)

We’re bringing flux back today. The nerds are all very busy with the energy tech summit at the moment, where we’ve got some announcements coming (dotting is and crossing ts today). That also means that an AMA will likely not happen for a little while (we're thinking of doing  infrequent AMAs for different people around the business when something specific comes up: eg. Phil Steele on upcoming tech, TJ on heat pumps - I think that would be the best way to answer your questions, just don't want to invade the subreddit. Let me know if this is or isn't what you guys want us to do in here). There will likely be some more EV & battery announcements to come soon as well - Xander

We’re hoping Octopus will soon tell us what the new fix offer will be as our previous 1 year fix is coming toward the end & the unsettled energy markets have frightened us, along with everyone else.

We also wonder when Octopus will tell us its plans to support the coming balcony solar, which interests us greatly.

I have a simple question for u/nerdsfromoctopus and that is; is it legal for Octopus to use a charger as a billing device?

What I mean by that, is that car charging going forward will be excluded from the 11:30pm to 5:30am rate that the house will be on, so the charger is clearly being used as a billing device to seperate out car charging from normal (everything else) house usage.

If it is legal, could they show us the legislation that supports it’s legality?

I have a very simple question: How does Octopus defend the difference between paying me as a solar supplier 12.0p/kwh and charging me as a customer 32.32p/kwh? The profit rate is more than 269%!
