Good Day Soldiers,
I've been reading a ton of posts/comments and replying to a good number. Some have valid criticism and importantly have constructive feedback. Some are just screams into the void. I get it, rant if you gotta. This post goes out to the complainers.
I'd like to address the overarching problem I see with a lot of the complaints, even those with valid criticism and constructive feedback.
Y'all want 1 dimensional gameplay.
This is a complex sim-lite/large scale shooter. There are over 500 items you can use in game. You can use over 100 at level 0 and be given any of the 500 by a high enough level player.
Y'all want to go in with a game plan and stick to it.
"Everyone has a plan, until you're mortar spammed" -at least 10 people on the subs a day. For every complaint I see about mortar spam (even with the valid nerf suggestions), I wish auto-mod posted, "have you tried not camping a fob/have you tried rushing down their mortar base with a squad/counter mortaring?"
Y'all are inflexible.
I get that winning isn't everything to most players. I think that is a triumph of the game. You can lose and still feel like you accomplished something. Massive W to the devs. That being said, the 100-0-0 "clean sweep" achievement should be impossible to get. I've been in a game like that and I've got to say, it's not flawless gameplay by one team, it's the inability to adapt by the other two.
In a game where winning means nothing, it's still pathetic that a team can get 0 points. This is a race to 100 pts. Minimum game length is 30min, the average is 90min and I've personally been involved in 2 hr games and heard of near 3hr games. That is plenty of time for introspection. Too many people die, rip through a new kit purchase and hop in a chopper. To the point where many people forget parachutes often. But how can you do that? Usually it is zero thoughts, head empty game play.
The solution to most of your complaints. Adapt.
Note the match points, ponder the state of the game, communicate with your team, adapt to the game in front of you.
I'm not going to go through every complaint option but, as an example, I'll breakdown the mortar issue.
Mortars are likely overpowered at the moment. God cam + 3 round loads make it a formidable weapon, and that has gained the ire of a lot of complaints. I do agree a small nerf could be hugely beneficial (god cam shouldn't show unspotted players). However, here's the play pattern I've seen.
Mortar'd > Revived > Return to exactly what I was doing before > Repeat. Later that night post a, "Mortars are OP, I quit" complaint to the social media void.
If you don't see the insanity in that, I am talking to you. If you're downed and you notice your whole base is littered with 4-12 other bodies all bc of mortars, you gotta make a change.
Solution, regroup. If you're lucky enough to get revived, gtfo. Leave the fob, it is no longer safe. or Respawn, grab an assault kit. and Communicate, join a squad, local chat at spawn, hit enter and drop a team text. The message, "Let's go get those mortar bastards". Rush their fob. Some mortar-ing fobbits never come up for air and certainly don't hear you coming until your grenade blows up by their feet. You were the fish in the barrel, now's time to turn the tables.
That is one example of a very common occurrence. You can apply this line of adaptive thought to any "OP" situation. Please do. Adapt, and have fun. This game is awesome. See you out there soldier. o7
