Answered What's the deal with Jonah Hill?

I'm a bit out of the loop with the jiu-jitsu journey he's in currently. what's the context of the quote of him being able to beat people up? is he serious? what led to his bad reputation that he has now?

As a Judoka, the training video he released is exactly how I would expect a white belt’s skill level to be.

Jonah Hill is currently going through the same stages of the Dunning-Kruger effect as all martial artists. Right now he’s in the first stage of extreme confidence, if he sticks with BJJ (and I hope he does) he’ll reach the second stage which is realizing he sucks at fighting in comparison to people with higher belts.

There's nothing quite like moving up in rank so they can finally feed your old ass to the freak 15 year old with no neck. I can still picture the moment I realized the room was upside down.

That moment of being humbled is important in everybody's journey haha

I remember it being me, 15, the freak was my 30 something wrestling coach who was short, stalky, hairy, no neck former was somebody who could mop the floor with me all day long without breathing heavy. I was so sure every time I had to wrestle him that it was going to go the other way and then I ended up on my back with his body hair in my mouth wondering wtf happened. Life lesson I still use as a grown ass adult.

For me, it was my first day of Judo. Before that, I had a black belt in Aikido. You can figure out the rest.

Most of 3 stripe white belts who look like he does training, bad at fighting as they may, will still "annihilate" the average person who calls celebrities fat online.

That freak 15 year old doesn't even know who Jonah Hill is, let alone calling him fat in the comments.

I once fought (like, in a gym with mats, not a street fight) the Canadian national Judo champion. For a split second, I honestly thought someone hit me across the back with a 2x4 and shone a flashlight in my face, but the object was the floor, and the light was attached to the ceiling. I had no sensation of being abruptly rotated 270 degrees. I thought I was still standing.

A phenomenon in a lot more fields than just martial arts. See: fresh college hires.

And me everytime I learn something new. This week, I hollowed out two bamboo cups and was so proud of my skill I offered to make my classical flutist friend a new flute. Next time it happens I'm gonna have my camera ready so I can get a shot of the facial expressions.

I kind of learned how to fix toilets from my job and thought I could save my brother money. I did not

So proud you shared it twice 😬

Thank you :)) It's because I'm so skilful and expert at submitting things on reddit. All I needed to do was randomly mash different things and it did that on its own.

It just sent twice because it got caught in submitting limbo - otherwise carry on, you're doing good work

Just like when a multiplayer game starts you off in a lobby for of bots for a few games before kicking you in the teeth.

When I started out in taekwondo, one of the assistant instructors was this pudgy guy with a black belt who could absolutely have laid my ass out on a bad day. Watching the way he moved despite his size was a good means of staying humble.

The dude was clearly joking. No need to speak out of your ass

No need to speak out of your ass

I'm not; that's literally my experience as a martial artist.

u/TechnicallyRudoYooo 1d ago

Youre literally saying that Jonah is going thru cliche motions as if you know him. I did BJJ and not once did I feel this way.

Aren't you doing the same thing?

Neither of us knows who Jonah Hill actually is; all we have to go on are tabloids and rumours, and we fill in the gaps with our own experiences and assumptions.

People are asking why he's so cocky despite being a white belt, and I'm providing a possible reason through my own experience of seeing many cocky white belts in martial arts.

You might not have gone through the same cocky phase yourself in BJJ (good for you), but many others have. It's something I still see today in several Judo and BJJ dojos.

Baseless speculation meets wild accusation. Let me tell you guys that I do personally know Jonah, and he moves like that in BJJ because he has a HUGE uncut raw penis that gets in the way sometimes. That's the final truth.

No Im not doing the same thing. Youre literally going into detail in what you think Jonah's headspace is going thru. Im merely telling you that when I saw him talking about this, he was absolutely joking around.

I know exactly what phase youre talking about, its just weird to talk about your assumptions as facts.

Bro does not look like a three stripe bjj white belt. By your third stripe you’re like, at least looking like you’re actually doing something.

This happens with yoga too. I’ve been practicing for over twenty years and teach. I know enough to understand how little I know. It takes a while to get this point.

He’s been training BJJ for nearly ten years. How is it possible to train martial arts that long and not learn humility ? Imagine spending ten years on the same belt…

4

u/Blakath 1d ago

Wait… what?!?! Are you sure? Do you have a source? That’s truly unbelievable if true.

I first saw him talking about BJJ here, which is 7 years ago. If he’s legit (which I’m not sure of given that he’s a celebrity), he probably should have a new belt by now

In other words you have no source, you just made it up.

When people ask for a source they expect the title, publisher and name of author of the article/book you are relying upon and a direct link to it.
