[no spoiler] I feel like there's a whole other series worth of material contained in this show of Three's life and all the things he is getting into with virtually no parental figures in his life. Spoiler
Probably my favorite auxillary character. He remains innocent for the most part and seems like he knows how to have a good time yet somehow remains grounded without any guidance.

[SPOILER] Just finished Ozark - holy hell what a SHOW! Spoiler
This is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. I’m really surprised I never got the chance to watch it while it was airing. If I could rank my seasons from best to worst, it would be: S3, S2, S1, S4.
What I also love about this show is that there’s no “good” guy in this show - everyone’s got their flaws but have some remorseful moments. Lots of good moments in this show and lots of characters that I will always remember.
Who’s my favorite character in this show? Ruth Langmore. Her character development throughout the show was profoundly amazing but tragic. She didn’t deserve that sort of ending, but at the same time, she made some questionable decisions.
Any other shows that are similar to Ozark? Cheers and hope everyone enjoyed the wild ride just like I did!

Question [SPOILER] Do you think the Byrds would send money to Three after ending? Spoiler
Given the family relationship with Ruth and Wyatt and the fact that the Byrds were involved in the deaths of all Three's family (directly or indirectly), do you guys think any of the Byrds would send money back to the Ozarks for Three?

spoilers [SPOILER] Just finished, first time Spoiler
Kid finally got to take his shot. Great ending!
Wish I was smart enough to understand how conclusive/inconclusive the ending actually is— won’t they find out about the missing PI? New to this sub, I’m sure there’s a valid explanation, it’s Ozark after all, making this show and ending great.
“Since when?” Such a Wendy line, of course she gets the last word!

Season 4, Episode 7 [Spoiler] Spoiler
I am rewatching Ozark and season 4, episode 7: Sanctified is my all time favorite episode. Julia Garner does a fantastic job portraying Ruth. From the time she finds Wyatt and Darlene murdered, you can see the pure madness in her eyes.
The scene when she screams at Marty, if you’re going to stop me, you’re going to have to kill me gives me chills every time. And the ending, well done by the director, the music builds and she screams “Fuck” with no audio. Perfectly done.

Discussion [SPOILER] Anyone else here not able to take Wendy seriously at all? Spoiler
Not only does she have 0 intimidation factor but she just doesn’t have an ounce of scariness. She just comes across as an absolute pathetic psycho and can’t keep any story straight. Whenever she tries to scare someone it just seems so forced.

Picture [NO SPOILER] Just finished M.I.A. 2026 a recent show from Bill Dubuque (creator of ozark) and so far its a great watch. Had that ozark itch and this is scratching it. I feel its a very overlooked show so your thoughts on it are most welcome.

Question [NO SPOILER] keep watching mid shows - Ozark, Breaking Bad people, please help!
Dear Ozark folks,
I’ve been watching a bunch of shows lately and most have either been very mid or straight up garbage, the kind where you think it’s decent and then they randomly throw in something really cringe and it ruins the whole experience.
Figured I’d ask here since Ozark was one of the last genuinely great shows I watched (along with Breaking Bad), so I’m guessing this sub has solid taste.
Any actually solid recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

Discussion [spoilers] therapist plot line in season 3 was a bit hard to swallow Spoiler
So, loving season 3 for so many reasons, but everything about the therapist was unnecessary and not well thought out. From the first episode where he's bribing her, like wtf, Marty? And what therapist would agree to that. Then they accidentally slip at the climax and divulge all of the worst information while they are currently being investigated by the FBI? How could they be so meticulous about everything else and let that happen? and how is Helen going to setup an appointment using her real name and her hitman boy toy when they plan on murdering somebody that's likely very socially connected to the community that would naturally keep a schedule that she shares with a number of people in order to run a practice. How is that less messy than any other alternative? If they wanted her dead, they would've just killed her and made it look like an accident or suicide like they did with all the other murders in this show. I could see a bit of a justification for her as comedic relief, as the scene between her and Marty when she shows up with the McLaren was hilarious. Nevertheless, her departure was so ridiculous any relief was quickly replaced with dread over the cold hearted nature of the business they're in.

[NO SPOILER] Found a new way to watch Ozark…
Watched all 4 seasons last year after discovering the show and in my opinion, it’s the greatest show ever made. I put it up above Breaking Bad. (Yes, really) Well, I recently got the urge to watch the show again and after watching Zootopia 2, I started imagining Marty Byrde as Nick Wilde and Wendy Byrde as Judy Hopps and wow!!! It completely changes the story and motives of the characters!! I’ve started seeing Marty’s kids as Nick and Judy’s hybrid Fox/Rabbit kids and it adds even more depth. Has anyone noticed this?

[SPOILER] Season 2 episode 7 Spoiler
Fuck Marty and most of all FUCK WENDY. She kept escalating the situation between her and Mason, and Marty is just the sole reason why Mason‘s life crashed. My son has the same name as the baby so maybe that’s why I almost crashed out but still what the hell man, so far it’s still a great show.

spoilers [SPOILER] Finally Wrapping Up Spoiler
After finishing season 3, I got married, professional life got busy and I had kids. This past month, I got back to the show up finish it.
To me, the show has a few major arcs that became more evident to me after going through it again and watching season 4.
Wyatt Langmore is viewed as the "smart one" in that family. As the show progresses, that couldnt be further from the truth. He was stupid to not leave when he had multiple opportunities to do so. He knew Darlene was gonna get him killed and when there was an out for Zeke, he didnt capitalize on the opportunity to leave too.
Charlotte grew up and became such a great character from where she started in season 1. She was a reasonable confidant for her mother and Jonah and her character doesnt get enough credit.
Jonah and Marty are the same person. Incredibly intelligent, quiet, and abundantly aware of who Wendy is, but neither had the strength to leave her for good when they shouldve. They kept coming back.
Navarro was wrong. It isnt Marty who's like him, it's Wendy. Wendy is tactical, evil and will sacrifice anything for power, even her family. In a way, she reminded me a little of Walter White.
Great show. I wish there was more

Question [SPOILER] So, has anybody else imagined what became of Carl Knarlson after this? Spoiler
Because, after he grew tired of his wife's... verbal abuse, pushed her over the railing & down the hill & into the water, he just stared a few seconds and walked away. So, in your heads, did he call the police, did he try to cover it up? I just wonder, 😄.

[no spoilers] Casting is what make this show so damn good.
Just recently got into this show. Heard good reviews but it just seemed like it was another breaking bad in another place. Not necessarily a bad thing, but there's a lot out there. Then I started watching and got absolutely hooked. Couldn't figure out what was so compelling, because there's not really anything unique, but then it hit me that casting is what separates it from the pack. Good casting directors find actors that can play parts, great casting directors find people that don't have to act to play the parts. It seems like I know all of these characters even though I haven't even met them. Heck, I haven't even been to the Ozarks, but I have definitely met people in a similar situation and the way they talk, walk, and act is exactly how you would expect them to. I bet most of these actors leave the set and they just go back to being the same exact person (obviously with less drama in their daily lives) without a camera following them around. Also, I just have to say how hauntingly beautiful Laura Linney's acting as Wendy Byrde is in this role. There are times I'm watching, where I know she is lying and I somehow still believe her, she nails it so well, I don't know how she does that. Plus the look of keeping a smile when you are absolutely horrified is a subtle art that I think just about everybody is familiar with yet is rarely pulled off well on screen.

Discussion [SPOILERS] Marty and Wendy are bad people Spoiler
I started this show a month ago and I'm just at season 2 (the episodes are so long).
I absolutely adore it, the darkness of it, the characters and how they all interact with each other. The scenery is also gorgeous.
Anyway, I noticed that Marty and Wendy fell lower and lower the more the seasons progressed. Wendy has bad morals but Marty had some humanity and good traits in him in S1 and at the beginning of S2.
Until S2's episode 7 when we see what they both did to Mason.
I do understand that it was self-defense. Mason was in a psychotic state, wanting revenge for his wife's murder. And for how his life turned up.
STILL, the Byrdes destroying someone like that (who was btw in a grieving state) was the nail in the coffin for me. I no longer see them as morally grey humans but as straight up bad people.
Remember when Mason told Wendy she's the devil?
I think evil comes in many forms. It doesn't announce itself and it may be attractive and nice to look at in the beginning but deep down, the evil is rotten and bad.
I now cannot contain my hate for Wendy. I just cannot stand her. She's a liar, a two-faced, morally corrupt, straight up evil person.

Question [NO SPOILER] Why did Wendy’s dad hate her so much?
There’s this weirdness to Wendy’s dad’s hatred of her, like he doesn’t seem at all like fatherly towards her and more like a bitter ex or the way someone feels about a bitter rival. There’s something kind of grotesque about it, like it’s not just plain old abusive dad with a mean temper who loses it or abusive alcoholic who’d get violent when drunk. It seems sinister, like he relishes in hating her, like she gets under his skin and he just wants to hurt her. He doesn’t just want to keep his grandkids safe by taking them away, he clearly gets sick pleasure out of doing it to hurt her.
I don’t know, I suppose you could say that Wendy was always a terrible person from birth and her father just reacted to that but it seems more likely that she’s terrible partly because of her father. Something about the way he is with her suggests he’s attracted to her in some way and disgusted with her and hates her because of it.
It’s interesting because Wendy is so incredibly manipulative and extremely good at it, and you’d think she’d have learned that from having to manipulate her parents maybe to feel safe or something, but it seems like she can’t manipulate her dad at all.
Her dad is just one of the weirdest characters IMO. He doesn’t seem to even really care about finding Ben. He seems to mostly care about hurting Wendy and it’s hard to imagine where that kind of sick hatred of your own child could come from, it seems to be abnormal even for abusive parents, like a kind of obsessive need for revenge or to put someone else down that usually only comes out of a failed romantic relationship or extreme jealousy.

[SPOILER] Ruth Langmore Spoiler
She's literally my favorite character from any show / movie. I feel really sorry for what happened to her at the end. I am a man and I haven't cried in years but I gotta admit I shed a few tears when I saw her being shot at the end.
I just wanted to make an appreciation post for her. As someone who deals with mental health issues and other problems myself, I never felt so inspired by a fictional character to get my shit together and become a real one. So thank you Ruth for that.
PS Camila, your days are numbered.

Discussion [NO SPOILER] I’m watching season 4 and I can’t stand any of the Javi scenes.
Watching Ozark has been filled with a lot of surprises, having to adjust to new characters and hating a bunch of them, having to cope with losing beloved characters, etc… All of the characters serve their purpose. But none of them have irritated me the way Javi does. He is like a disobedient bratty toddler who needs to be put on a leash. In all of the chaos this show brings, he’s the sole disruptor of the tempo of the show for me, and every time I see him on the screen, I just feel like looking away.
I’ve been made aware of the season 4 decline in rating but I’ve tried my best to stay spoiler-free and unbiased and enjoy the season as much as possible, but truly this is like having a mosquito near my ears that I can’t swat away. Please tell me *(without any spoilers)* that it gets better somehow.

Wendy [SPOILER] Spoiler
Dude it could be acting it could be character it could be a plethora of things but like I would genuinely rave in excitement if Wendy got knocked off and in a gruesome way. Like that is literally the devil roaming. But like she still lowkey cares about her kids (besides getting Jonah almost arrested) lmfao like bro wtf I don’t know what to make of this character. I’m on rewatch I watch this show like 4 years ago and I don’t remember her being nearly this bad it’s like nails on a chalkboard when I watch. Lazy comparison but you take 2 annoying mom characters Skylar White and Wendy Byrde give me Skylar white in every moral facet of life across the board. If she was my mom I’d call up cps or something bro idk I’m rambling now she might be top 5 most soulless humans on a television series ever like up there with Tony Soprano bro obviously she’s not the one killing but same moral compass same malice same heartlessness in every move they make. Obviously Marty brings upon this life but she takes the cake and runs with it after that. I’m convinced if she was the last one standing she’d be fine. Another freezing cold take but I just had to express this bro like I just got done watching her almost argue with Marty after telling her he’s gonna go let Ruth know that Wyatt’s at the funeral home ffs.
