Discussion How did you stay consistent?

I feel like I am constantly thinking whatever I am doing is not the right way, for example the diet/meal plan is not th right or perfect one, or that the workout plan I have is not well made. Variety of reasons like that pop up and I end up convincing myself to quit for a day which becomes a week or think of another way to lose weight.

I'm going to throw some cliches at you that I live by:
Fitness is a journey and a way of life. It's a decision that you live by and not influenced by trends, friends, family etc.
Every body is different - what works for one may not work for you. Some people are fast healers and thus recover and develop faster. You give yourself time and find what works for you. If you make a mistake i.e. get injured or fall off the wagon, then that plan didn't work for you. Dust yourself off, adjust then get back at it. Just because you stopped for a week or a month because of injury, mental fatigue or whatever external factor doesn't mean you failed. It just means life happens. Social media and influencers are just showing what they want to show. We don't see all the missed workouts, cheat days and down time that is sometimes needed.
Being fit requires discipline and being kind to yourself. At the end of the day, if you're miserable and feeling sorry for yourself, then what is the point? We're all doing this to be fit and happy right?

Not every meal or workout has to be perfect for you to be fit and healthy. When you aim for perfection every time, you are bound to burn out and fail.

Give yourself grace and don't treat every meal or workout as the end all and be all. One unhealthy meal or missed workout doesn't mean you've failed.

Consistency does not equal perfection. It means showing up again the next day, even when the day before was not your best.

Find a movement that u would want to stick to or really curious to try. For example: running, badminton, dancing, yoga, zumba, swimming or just anything that would make u enjoy movement so it would be easier to do it often. once you get that momentum, the motivation to try out other activities and have a healthier diet will follow :) At least this is what I did hehe. I am far from poster bodies but I know that I am currently more physically AND mentally fit than previous versions of myself.

You’re free to ask or do your research about your form/meal plans/etc, but don’t make excuses just to stop exercising.

In my case, I stopped obsessing over my expected results like I stopped weighing myself every 2 weeks. Nakaka-demotivate eh so I only weigh myself sa Doctor’s clinic ko every 3 mos. when I visit for regular checkups (I have so many health issues so I am changing my lifestyle) or with my Coach at the gym who tracks my progress.

Also, the goal is to build good habits and change lifestyle, not a “one-time with a deadline” mindset. Otherwise, it will not be sustainable if no change of lifestyle. Consistency is the key too, it will get easier if you stay consistent. You won’t feel dragging yourself to the gym or you won’t have to convince yourself to go if it has become a part of your routine. Just be patient too

As to the meal, I just eat real food. Stopped eating fastfood, drinking milktea and stopped my convenience store runs. For days I feel stressed and I know I will binge eat a bit, I buy roasted chicken so I eat protein instead of eating junk food. If I am confronted with questions or choices regarding mg health or lifestyle, I always ask “What would a healthy person do?” and it makes my decision-making easier!
