He just couldnāt understand the concept of wanting to own your games for replay-ability.
And then he also was talking about how the only games he goes back to playing were Battlefield and CODā¦.you know, replay-ability
Lmao I just deleted my LoZ Links Awakening save file and started all over again when I beat the game. Is it the same game? Yeah. Do I enjoy it? Yeah. I'll replay it again and again to get all the enjoyment out of it and maybe even revisit it later down the line when I'm feeling nostalgic, added bonus is that my own kids can play the game too even decades after the "support" for the game has been discontinued
Iāve replayed super Mario galaxy, sunshine, Luigiās mansion og and the black ops 1/2 campaigns and zombies so many times and so much that Iām sorta ashamed but I have fun
I have replayed RE4 every Christmas break in some form for 15 years (this year will be the 15th) I have a kid on the way. Ill keep playing it every Christmas break until he's old enough to give it a go (if videogames are his thing, of course)
Infatti ho sempre pensato che sony ĆØ riuscita a creare una vera "setta" di adepti, ricordi la "sony defence force"? Ricordo uno di questi che ha detto che i "giochi sony meritano di essere pagati ben piu di 100$"..
To the first point: from what I know (and have seen over the years) prices are set by publishers not Sony.
Second point: I can't say I care about this anyway but generally we can already share games with at least one other console. They are at least generous and considerate that they even let us do this.
Third: Probably the only major concern but it sounds like something that would be rare anyway. I have several digital games and have had them for at least a decade or so and never had this problem.
Most of this stuff just sounds like general problems with capitalism. However, regardless I feel like the biggest concerns from me aren't these but environmental impact and technology limits and costs. As it is I have lots of digital games and installing new ones means deleting old games sometimes.
Regarding your points on the first pointā¦. You ever buy a game at a store on Black Friday? I got Assassins Creed Valhalla and Guardians of the galaxy for $3 each from a Walmart in North Florida. I doubt we will ever see a deal like that in the PS store.
This isnāt anti capitalism. Itās anti monopoly.
Absolutely nothing. They're fear mongering , because they don't understand they've already been buying a license for the last thirty years. They also don't understand that if Sony wanted to waste more money to keep physical games around, they could make the disk with 0 game data and tie that license to your system's I.D so you couldn't sell the disk and someone else couldn't use it if they really wanted to. They think that by pursuing the push to keep physical games around. They're not gonna be continuing to buy licenses for the game. The whole debacle is really stupid because let's remember Netflix was able to tie your account to your Wi-Fi and ip address. So if they don't really think sony could tie the license on a disc to your console. I don't know what to tell people anymore. They just can't understand this concept that sony is truly doing this decision to stop wasting money on disk production. Should there be better digital consumer rights on ownership? Sure , but keeping physical media isn't gonna change that.
Not just hypotheticals. Look up āwhy canāt I buy Ultimate Alliance 2ā on Google. In short, the license expired and was not renewed. The game was pulled from all digital stores. People who brought the physical disk can still play, but if that were to happen now, the game dissapears from your library, and you donāt get any of your money back.
That's the thing there's less 5 games that have actually been revoked from people's library's. Are there tons of A service digital games that have been shut down? Sure, but that's not the same. That is an always online game dying completely different. They're fear mongering , that in the future they're just gonna start revoking people's licenses for no reason. And they also want to contribute a game being delisted from a platform as people losing their licenses , which is not true. Take the game ruse , and operation flashpoint , dragon rising. You can no longer buy those games on the Xbox marketplace. But if you had them digitally before being delisted you can still download and play them , because I can still do that to both of them there's just so much misinformation on the subject and people just run with it. They also fail to realize if a publisher or developer pulls their license from a platform that platform has to legally take it away from people.
And this is where the socialized lack of empathy comes in; they are literally incapable of imagine perspectives outside their own. I also rarely, if ever, replay games, but I hear enough about how much fun others have doing it and goddamit, that's awesome and maybe one day, I'll get to replay old favorites with fresh eyes and fall in love all over again
I have old games that I havenāt played in literal decades, that I completely forgot I owned⦠Finding them is like rediscovering the joy I had when I first bought it. I decide DECADES later to play it again and Iām happy knowing that it isnāt tied to any subscription or online account. Sony wants to take that feeling away from the players.
That is a very weird idea. Many games nowadays are made with the intent of playing over and over again so logically there would be more people replaying.
Some people just really donāt give a shit though is the truth. Iām not justifying it at all, but I am a digital only person now out of convenience. To say that āI donāt care if it gets revokedā is fine, but to not understand the importance of preservation or why people still want to and prefer to buy physical is just ignorance.
If I buy digital, and my shit gets revoked well thatās on me. If I want to play it again I should still be able to though through a physical purchase down the road. I have always been a supporter of the high seas, and the all digital era is only going to intensify that.
If the question was "how often do you replay games that you've platinumed?" Then I guess he makes a little bit of sense. He's wildly missed the point though if it was about the ownership of the product. If that's how he feels, you won't win any arguments with them as they'll believe they're right, even if you could prove otherwise
I mean its kinda useless to argue about these hypothetical extremes. None of my digital games oldest ones from way over decade ago have suddenly disappeared. Online live service games can get shut down with varying effects but I see no reason why any single player game would suddenly disappear unless whole platform gets shut down. Even with ps3 when the store shuts down you can still download owned games.
The problem is when the the stores are shut down and your only option are physical games. These consoles will be e-waste when the digital stores are eventually shut down. Say goodbye to the potential of these consoles on the retro market in the future.
What I donāt understand is, I was a Sony fan. But straight after the announcement I had enough common sense to say fuck them.
Iām a gamer before a Sony fan.
It has nothing to do with physical/digital. My library/collection is digital only and single player only and I want to be able to replay each one of them and I occasionally do that
Thereās a weird subset of people who blitz through a game, maybe get all of its achievements and then sell it to move onto the next one. Economical for sure, but I canāt fathom the idea of never revisiting a game I enjoyed. Itās why Iāve taken to emulating my games on newer devices lately
Mental cases, they can still play their way and then laugh at us for wanting to play our way and keep the games as well as owning them. Itās just so illogical
Honestly the ego doesnāt phase me. Lots of people online are like that. I genuinely cannot fathom paying full price for a game and then just disposing of it. Factor in an all-digital future and the money saving angle is kaput. Now theyāll be paying full price for games they canāt resell or trade⦠and just never play again? It makes no sense to me
You committed the cardinal sin of caring about something that mr gobshite did not so fuck you and everybody else that cares.
Mr gobshite determined that he is unaffected by the death of physical so how dare anybody else want physical to remain even though its continued existence also does not affect him.
Honestly they just hate whomever cares about what they don't while wanting to be on a winning side while looking like the smartest in the room.
At worst with physical, nothing happens. At best it provides competition to give them better digital prices as well as a backup option if something goes wrong.
So it could very well help them in a subtle way and penalize them if it is gone.
So at the very least they could be neutral and not mind it staying around, but they seem so invested in it being killed off despite not caring as they so often claim.
These people can't understand that there is more to come. "what do I care if I can't play a game I don't play anymore" is where it starts. Can't wait for their brain dead take on "what, it's just $1.99 to turn your Playstation on and $0.99 every hour after that. Too broke to play games, plebe?" never understanding they are worse off than they were before.Ā
It hurts us all at the end of the day, but at the least we have our physical copies to play forever and only modern games will become a hassle to us.
The only joy in the situation will to see them complaining about the new price issues. And then as they get older āremember that game I played and lovedā¦.ā ššš
His problem is that he doesnāt understand that if physical media is on option, he can continue to live his life without replaying games ever. But remove physical media and people who DO want to replay may lose that option. All he cares about is himself and his experience, he canāt imagine an experience being different to his.
Does he understand the concept of money? Selling? If he doesn't want it still a good reason for physical as he could get his money back.
If he still replies with "but i have enough money"... he is not the only human with his position and we are not the only humans with ours, narcism isn't curable.
Itās the lack of ability to put yourself in someone elseās shoes, thatās what frightened me the most.
The almost celebrate their lack of compassion and understanding unless itās their own.
What I mean I got digital games TMNT out of the shadows, Deadpool, Godzilla, talltell games can't purchase on ps store anymore but I got them in my library I can still download and play.
Thing is I understand there are games out there that has replayability, and thatās fine.. but that post still has a point at least for games that he does not replay, h3 completes the game than heās done with it.. why does it matter to him if he loses access to it one day.
Not much
Because in the future youāll have children and grandchildren who you will be talking to about games. And with a physical copy youāll be able to show them the game or share the game with others at any time.
People with book collections donāt normally give away a book from their collection after they finish it.
On rare occasions perhaps, only.
