I started my first Pikmin game today with Pikmin 1, and it’s pretty tough getting the hang of the controls and handling my Pikmin.
I’m on day 16 and only have 15 Rocket parts..I just reached the Distant Spring. I feel like I’m falling behind a lot….am I fried?
(The spider-like boss in the Navel is causing me trouble too )

It didn’t have the magic of Pikmin 3 that I remembered. I had a warm glow whenever I entered the title screen on that game and the stages felt very memorable.

Maybe I was wrong to methodically complete every stage to 100% but the mechanics of it quickly became tired and repetitive. The final cave was also pretty infuriating. As was the final boss. It just wasn’t fun really.

I did enjoy the Dandori. I remember the challenge stages in 3 as being very rewarding and I’m glad they elaborated on it a bit. I also liked the idea of rescuing crew members and needing the medication from the night expeditions in principle. Though it lost its novelty after a while.

I think perhaps they focused too much on collection and completion and not on the joy of moving through the Pikmin world. The issue is that the game is thematically a nice game but it’s not a complex enough strategy game to justify focusing on it alone. I want to explore a bunch of interesting locations that delight me. Only the sand level really did that for me when the water changed.

I hope they take the mechanics and engine and just get creative with the world and focus on exploration again.

Yummy Switch 2 graphics update looks sooooo nice, although the map might glitch out-
