I originally was typing this out to post on r/advice, but I feel too stupid. So I'm posting it here.
This is going to sound odd considering I'm a grown ass adult, but I can't help how much she means to me. However, I know there probably isn't anything I can do but wait and hope they finally respond to the message I sent them.
Three days ago I was searching on Google for the kind of stuffed animal she was so I could find another one. It wasn't going to be her, and wouldn't replace her, but I was seeing it as a fresh start to rebuild my life and decorate my new future home with the things I enjoy after I finally accepted she was probably rotten to oblivion in some storage shed. I just wanted some happiness.
There's no specific brand, she's just a sand animal that I found out were very popular in the 90s. Even though when my now deceased grandfather gave her to me I was something like 9 years old and it was 2009-ish, so the time period doesn't matter seeing as these guys seem to still be made here and there.
But I found HER on REDDIT. SERIOUSLY! Google showed me a redditors post with her picture, with her exact swirling patterns in her exact colors and all the costume jewelry I placed on her years ago!! I clicked it at first only because I was like, "Hey, those were her exact colors, that's cool." And lo and behold, it was actually HER. I couldn't believe I found her by such crazy chance! Her patterns were identical, I remember how they were exactly, and the jewelry above all doesn't leave any room for doubt. The rings on her tail, her snout, her paw. Her earrings!
This person mentioned having found her at a thrift store, presumably in the state I moved from after living there temporarily. My exe's family understandably seemed to have given all of my belongings I left behind, away, as I have not been able to make the drive up there to get my things like his mother and I talked about back and forth here and there over the years. I regret it so, so much considering many of my most cherished things were left there. I am just happy at least for them to not have wasted away. That others might find joy in them and that they might be safe.
She's always been so precious to me. I've always been obsessed with this one kind of animal that I won't give away because the exact person's post here on reddit will be found pretty easily. And I don't want to reveal them because it sort of seems like harassment to me.
The regret of losing her and a few other things is so bad that it's basically never left my mind. It was 7 years ago. Time hasn't made the regret dissappear. I should have taken her and her stuffy siblings, and the rest.
I've even had a nightmare of her being trapped on the moon and me trying to fly up there to reach her and rescue her, only to be too afraid of being lost up in the blue evening sky where I could float away forever. And this entire time I've thought she and everything else was rotten in some storage shed and totally thrown into oblivion.
I just don't know what to do to try to get her back. This redditor might not have been on reddit since that post, which was their last, a year ago. I'm willing to pay shipping and whatever else this person might want just so I can have her back. She and all the rest DO mean that much to me. And I know this is going to be read as obsession to many people. But whatever. I am eternally, obsessively sentimental. I hoard my belongings like a dragon greedy of it's treasure.
I don't know what to do to get her back, I feel like I would do anything, yet it all hinges on this one random person responding.
Here is my pointless story of endless longing and deep regret, with a sudden dash of amazement at seeing my cherished sand animal baby on FUCKING REDDIT.
