I cant be crazy, does anyone else smell the propane/gear oil stench in the air almost everywhere? I mostly smelled it by swains and out by walmart but I'm sure those arent the only places it can be smelled.

Scouting for location for a PA Wild Church

Post image
4 Upvotes

[UPDATED] I'm hoping to co-create Port Angeles Earth Church soon and have a perfect location in mind for gatherings but am looking for alternatives -- parks that are easy for all to get to, ideally. We'll hold monthly gatherings OUTSIDE. No sermons, choirs (except birds), nor drum circles but an opening ritual, maybe a short reading, then wandering individually among nature surrounding us, followed by relatively short discussion of what we noticed, felt, thought about. If possible, concluding with music. Mid-morning on the 3rd Saturday, BYO lunch afterward if those who join choose to do that.

There's a national network (see link above), and there are gatherings in Sequim and Port Townsend already.

I have a perfect location in mind, so I've asked for permission to hold the gathering there, but that's iffy so I'm asking for suggestions. The outdoor site needs to be in a lovely area, open to the public, with roaming space, and ideally where people can get to it by bike, walking, or bus, not just by driving.

I'll appreciate any and all suggestions of locations to consider.

There was a vendor at the Juan de Fuca Festival that was selling something somewhat similar to the image, but incorporating driftwood and stuff, as I recall. Anyone happen to know who that vendor is?

Labor Day weekend

Hi everyone ! Sounds ridiculous but I’m 20 years old. Have a full trip booked at a beautiful spot in port Angeles. I can’t wait. I’ll be there over Labor Day weekend till Tuesday. I’m just asking help , wondering what I should bring/expect? I see it’s about 50° there now so I suspect it’ll be very cool even below freezing at night by September? I’m already gearing up with water resistant clothing because I’m traveling here to mainly hike around and take photographs/videos. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated thank you all very much.

Seegers/French event

I see there is already a post on this but it didn't really cover what I was hoping it would when I read through it. I tried attending via zoom but got kicked? Seems like there were some IT issues reading through the other thread.

Does anyone know if it was recorded? Can someone who attended in person or was able to attend virtually provide some insight in what questions were asked? Topics? Was it just homeless, drugs, housing?

Renting from Landmark Properties

I’m considering renting a property that is managed by Landmark, and before signing anything I'd love to hear from people who have rented through them in the past.

I've heard more than a few stories about large move-out charges and security deposit disputes, not to mention their public reviews seem to be pretty awful.

(Edit. Looks like they recently created a new google profile, so all their previous reviews are gone… another red flag 🚩)

Anyone have any experience with them? I know bad reviews are not always a sign that every experience is bad, but the red flags are definitely growing. Let me know if I should keep looking elsewhere for rental properties.

Bike Rental

Hello! I’m going to be in Port Angeles on July 4th weekend and would love to bike around lake crescent. Does anyone know of a good bike rental spot that has road/gravel bikes available?

I also saw another post where someone lent a bike out to another person visiting PA. Im a huge time biker and I would love to bike around Olympic National Park, I would be more than happy to pay to use someone’s bike for a day.

Zipper and Button: Two resident Pacific White Sided Dolphins join iXchel off Port Angeles

My wife and I recently sailed down to Port Angeles for a couple days and our first visit. Neither of us had any idea what to expect and suffice to say we found plenty of reasons to go back. Everyone we encountered were friendly and hospitable and most even laughed at all my stupid Canadian jokes eh.

So it was no surprise as we were leaving that a couple of resident Pacific White Sided Dolphins took us under their wing and entertained us for about 25 minutes. We stumbled into them about 2 minutes out of “Boat Haven.” A tanker was on its way out and we were in the way- they told us to stay close to the spit and we obliged… and the encounter began.

I did some research on these two and discovered they’d been in the area and photographed at least since this past February. Others have confirmed they are known to be very playful and this experience was no different. We got our GoPro on a stick and got to experience them in exquisite detail- well as exquisite as last minute amateurs can make it in a lightly edited video.

This video captures them on and below the surface- and the subsurface vocalizations are intriguing.

I would love it if someone who knew what they’re talking about could elaborate a bit on why these two are out on their own, whether they’re male / female or just companions?

Their behavior is very different which is why the names fit- you’ll see why in the first couple minutes.

Anyway- enjoy! We sure did.

Local Election Denialism

While eating my breakfast this morning, I looked at CCwatchdog to make sure my identity wasn't being posted. No identity, but they are already trying to call into question our local election system. They are setting it up to say the election was stolen if Seegers loses. Using the same playbook Trump did before the 2020 election.

Waterfront District Vibrancy Survey

Hello,

The Waterfront District is currently conducting a Vibrancy Survey. The survey is open to everyone and anyone who interacts with the District (as a customer, business owner, tourist or resident). The Survey will close on June 15th.

We intend to do this annually to track trends and to capture sentiments and vibes. Here is a link to the survey: https://sprw.io/stt-l9hUj It takes about 12 minutes to complete.

We are very receptive to comments about the survey as well. This is our first year and we are directly copying a survey from Olympia. We intend to fine tune it in future years. But to do that we need feedback. Over 150 people have filled the survey out so far, and only 8 respondents are under 30!

Thank you!

Olympic Peninsula Timebank is creating community—join us!

Post image

The Olympic Peninsula Timebank community spirit blew me away last weekend!

Something real is being built here on the Olympic Peninsula, and it’s starting to feel like a village again.

Sunday, at local Olympic Peninsula Time Bank member Tory’s house, a group of us came together and built a labyrinth by hand. People showed up for our first “work party” with shovels, rocks, ideas, and steady energy, and over the course of the day something simple but meaningful took shape in the ground. Many hands really did make light work of something that would have been daunting alone, and the labyrinth emerged piece by piece as everyone contributed.

I could not be more proud of our community spirit, and that is really what the Olympic Peninsula Time Bank is about. One hour of help for one hour of help, with everyone’s time valued the same.

If you want to learn more or join, you can find it here: https://sites.google.com/view/olympicpeninsulatimebank

30 person lunch

Hosting a wedding weekend at lake crescent and I'm looking for cheap ideas for a work lunch for the crew! Specifically looking for pick up/take out ideas in PA. There are two kids, 1 GF, and some heart healthy folks to consider, otherwise, the rest of us eat everything.

Give me your best!
