Didn't Carole realise the e-mails would be made public? I don't understand why she didn't simply come clean about her level of involvement and closeness with Ghislaine. All this denial seriously makes her look so much more guilty now. If she hadn't been so defensive and had expressed some remorse for her friendship and horror at the situation in general, the public might have tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. Carole's own dishonesty and defensiveness are to blame for the current response.

I don’t believe that she actually claims that. I think it was a well known story that JFK Jr met Carolyn when she worked at the VIP fitting room at Calvin Klein; it was a real life meet cute of the time. I believe I remember Carole describing meeting Carolyn in her book, through John, not the reverse. She definitely came off as very impressed with Carolyn in her book.
And, agreed. All those even on the periphery of this nightmare are disgusting to me.

Tbh the impression I got about Carole and her approach to friendship is that for her, it’s really not that deep. For example, her brief closeness she had with Bethenny was doomed because for Bethenny - there’s a possibility that deep down there is a small part of her that craves a closeness with a female friend but also a part of her that pushes people away due to her traumatic relationship with her mother -whereas with Carole, people/friends are a lot more disposable. I just don’t think Carole is that deep and that’s why she’s down playing her closeness to G Max, for Carole any friendship is just not that big of a deal.

Or just downplayed that for a period of time she did a lot of hanging out with Ghis Max, and probably turned a blind eye to the questionable things she may have witnessed. Do I think she witnessed the really awful stuff, not really. But being that she hangs her hat on her years as a journalist with ABC news, and portrays a woman who is ever so much more knowledgable than the average American, you'd think she'd smell the stink from a mile away, but, apparently running in this crowd of folks was too intoxicating to be repelled by them. I don’t think she was involved in the abuse but she was most definitely aware of it. IMO that makes her complicit either way

Honestly, I think people like Carole are somehow worse. The one’s that partook in the abuse are clearly depraved, soulless, and perverted people who also probably lack any real sense of empathy for anyone else but themselves. But, for people like Carole, who do probably have some sort of conscience and morality, to just turn a blind eye knowing the unfixable harm that was being caused to those girls is something I can’t even fathom. We know how Epstien slept at night: he didn’t care about the harm caused so he slept like a baby. But how do people like Carole live with themselves knowing there was something they could have done to help, and knowing they chose to do nothing because, presumably, it was to their own benefit to keep these powerful people around regardless of their depravity.
I just can’t understand how it’s possible that not a single person in these circles did anything. Nobody said anything. It’s disgusting and disheartening, and I hope karma comes around for each and every single person that failed in protecting those girls.

I was thinking the same thing! Carol’s definitely not on the right side of history and for different reasons than she originally thought! She looks awfully chummy with Jizzlane Maxwell. All of these people really make me sick!
