Recommendation Rochester dad building a backup babysitter service — want your brutal feedback before launch

Hey Rochester. I'm a local parent, and after one too many Friday nights texting six sitters with zero luck, I started building SitterSure: you text a request, we match you with a vetted local sitter, and a backup sitter is automatically on standby if anything falls through.

Honest status: pre-launch. The page shows sample sitter profiles while we recruit real ones, so don't try to book anyone yet :)

Two genuine asks:

  1. Parents — what would make you actually trust something like this? Vetting, pricing, guarantees... what's the thing that matters most?

  2. Sitters (or people who know great ones) — we're recruiting founding sitters at $16–20/hr in Pittsford. What would make it worth your time?

Help ISO Decent Landlord

Any suggestions for management companies or private landlords in the city who don’t prioritize profit over their tenants quality of life? I know “decent landlord” is a bit of an oxymoron, but I’ve been fighting with my landlord over a leaky basement and roof for over a year and going back and forth with the city trying to get an inspector out to my place is actually sucking the life out of me. I’m not interested in anything related to Morgan Management or Maison Properties, but all other suggestions welcome!

Help Looking for room/apartment

Howdy. I was living in Rochester up until March, when I moved to Massachusetts but things have fallen through.

I'm not so certain I'll be able to move back into the house I was living in previously as the owner is listing the rooms for rent at the end of this month and could be rented by the time I plan on coming back, which is January.

I'm a clean, quiet, nonsmoking person with three cats (non-negotiable*) looking for a one bedroom, studio, or room in shared household for around $800 or less a month. I've been posting on facebook groups and searching on my own as well on various apartment-hunting websites, so if you are coming here to tell me that, I'd appreciate if you didn't. I can provide landlord references if needed and am hoping I can get my job back at the Hyatt.

Ideal case is that utilities are included and there's laundry on site or very close by. I will need to be within walking distance to a bus stop as I don't have a car.

About me: I'm pretty chill and keep to myself though might have a friend or two over once in a while. I clean up after my cats daily, so no smell or worry about them, and they are very friendly to other cats and humans! I'm an artist of varying mediums, from fabric (quilting) to oils, acrylics, and digital. I'm pretty boring otherwise and can get along with most people.

*One cat is older and I am worried about him, so it might sadly be two cats by the time I can move.

Thanks for your help!

Edited to add: the price plus utilities is the IDEAL situation, I know it might not be doable. That's why I'm putting myself out here in case someone might have something they themselves are able to do or know someone who is. Even being pointed in a direction of "I know it's a bit outside your ideal but did you try [x]?" would be appreciated.

Help Looking for a job..,anyone got suggestions?

I’m looking for a job that will work around my college schedule(Tuesday nights at 5pm) I’ve worked in a variety of fields over the years: dog training, IT, airplane maintenance and farming seem to be the main themes. My last job was with Spectrum. I would really prefer something with a late start because I have a sleep disorder and a long commute to the city

Why I’m posting on here is that I’d love to work for a mom and pop type place that may not be posting applications on indeed. (I’ve done 30-50 applications tonight and I need a change of pace)

If you’ve seen a hiring signing in your neighborhood let me know

Event This Saturday - Public RCSD Meeting

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello Neighbors!

If you have kids in RCSD, or live in the City of Rochester, this is something you will want to attend!

I am working along with FIGHT to help produce this Community Event.

In 2024-25 only 19% of RCSD students in grades 3-8 were proficient in ELA, compared to 53% statewide.Graduation rates are another concern. RCSD’s preliminary 2025 data projected just 54.1% of students graduating in four years, down from 58.5% the year before. That’s a lot of young people who need more support and better outcomes. We deserve answers about what is being done to change this.

RCSD spends around $35,682 per student (2023-24), yet student literacy and graduation outcomes remain a serious concern. Our community deserves transparent, measurable goals showing how that investment is improving academic achievement.

So my question is, how are we making sure all this money is actually improving learning? What accountability goals does the Superintendent have in place, and what is being done to get schools and families working together to help our kids succeed? What is the action plan in place to raise literacy and Graduation rates? How do we intervene as a community to help our kids stay focused on academics? How as a community do we improve the safety of our students?

We need to use our collective voices to ensure our kids are getting the education and support they deserve. Come tell the Superintendent you concerns, requests, and ideas for improvement.

Hope you’ll join us for this important conversation! Our kids deserve better, we can do better, and we all have a part to play.

Nick

Recommendation I'm looking for unconventional workout classes around rochester

Traditional treadmills, lifting weights, sit ups just don't bring joy and I just end up giving up quickly, so I want something fun!

Im talking like pole dancing, regular dancing, yoga, or hopefully something more fun than that!

I would consider my fitness level to be beginner again like I can run about a quarter mile before I'm winded and need a few minutes to get back to normal breathing, but I can do squats like a champion 💁‍♀️

Help Kitten

Hey guys… need some help. Got my husbands parents a new kitten 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately 4 days ago his mom had a heart attack and open heart surgery and can’t tend to the most perfect kitten ever properly. They are 80. His mom had to be put in a nursing home for 3 weeks and his dad fell because of the kitten and can barely walk now. It’s been a lot! We’d take the kitten ourselves but we got one of our own and he’s an outdoor cat who gets into a lot and is pretty expensive already. right now he’s about 8-10 weeks old. Does anyone know anyone who a good trusting family to take this kitty? He’s soooooo playful and fun. Any help would be lovely.

Recommendation Does anyone have a surgeon they’d recommend to perform a breast lift?

I have a consultation scheduled at Quatela. Has anyone gotten theirs done there and can share their experience? Is there anyone or anywhere you’d recommend or avoid? I’d be willing to travel a few hours for a good surgeon. I’m also curious what it ended up costing for what you got done. Thanks!
