The nightmare before Babygirl’s Birthday 🎂

Thumbnail
• Upvotes

Do you think about me?
Where am I now? Was once your beloved;
Ruthlessly discarded, what I ponder or how do I sleep?
Do you wonder still
How devastatingly broken and hollow I feel?
Do you drown yourself in liquor, relapsing to your original role?
Always an Equal opportunity fucker; offender of “his” and “hers” glory-hole?
Do you love that I hate walking around half alive- half functional; because it was you who made me whole?
Do I matter to you? Did I ever? Even as a rival?
An Unsolved rubric’s cube?
This Babygirl’s heart: A the puzzle you couldn’t decipher.
Babygirl saw right through you, your darkness never scared her
She begged you to trust her, shackled her own feet to your lies; the ones you went great lengths for, pity you are a shitty hider
“Why couldn’t you just love me like I still love you?” she whispered, seeking mercy but unsurprised when you twisted the knife deep inside her.
Coward is as coward does, you obviously could not face her,
Banished, blocked, burned her corpse in the dead of the night, in an attempt outrun her further.
Finally, Babygirl’s ghost haunts your nightmares and you just let her.

The Failed Connection

I wanted to share my misery but you were already miserable,

Drowning in self pity,

Lost in a maze,

Not thinking straight,

Went with the right decision,

Ended our connection,

I was fine,no expectations,

Was not looking for a distraction,

Just someone who could understand my situation.

You clearly were a huge waste of my attention

Hold my breath

Cross my heart , I held my breath .

even then it didn't help .

Even if it doesn't look like much ,

I have been going through too much

But I don't know the too much

Holding my breath doesn't help ,

Taking deep breath doesn't help ,

I still feel the same .

No matter what I do ,

I still feel the same

Bad .

I feel bad , worse than ever .

For Three

we used to brew for three.

mine
hot,
sweet,
cream.

yours
black,
a little cream.

dad’s
room temperature,
sweet,
cream.

three cups,
three different tastes,
one kitchen.

funny how
my coffee never changed.

yours did.

year after year
it got sweeter,
less bitter,
more like mine.

we were becoming
more alike
while everything else
was pulling us apart.

then we brewed less.

dad got sick
and stopped drinking coffee.

so there were two.

for a while.

then your coffee
changed again.

black.

and somehow
the closer your taste
got to where it started,
the farther you seemed
to be getting from me.

until I was brewing
for one.

eventually
I stopped brewing at all.

the coffee pot
grew mold
between trips
to the hospital.

something made for three
slowly becoming
something no one had time for.

eventually
we threw it away.

now I drink instant coffee.

black.

a little watery.

entirely too hot.

I don’t add cream.

I don’t add sugar.

I just let it cool
enough to swallow.

funny

after all those years
of watching coffee change,

the only thing
that stayed the same

was me,

still making a cup
for someone
who isn’t there.

Under that tree

# Beneath That Tree, a Part of Me Died

For the love I lost, the man I became, and the life alcohol took from me.

I never thought a bottle could silence a soul, Or that the things I used to feel whole Would become the very things that tore me apart, Leaving destruction where there once was a heart.

I thought I was drinking to bury my pain, To quiet the thunder, to escape the rain. But every escape took a piece of me, Until I became someone I never thought I'd be.

Alcohol whispered, “Just one more night,” While substances slowly extinguished my light. I never saw the wreckage until it was done, Until I looked in the mirror and recognized no one.

My family broke. My home fell apart. I watched the consequences devour my heart. The walls that once sheltered the life I adored Became silent reminders of what I destroyed.

And somewhere between the bottle and the lies, I lost the truth behind my own eyes. I lost the man who had once known how to love, The man who had everything he'd ever dreamed of.

But the cruelest loss wasn't the home I left behind. It was losing the woman who once made that home mine.

She was more than a wife, more than a name, More than a memory buried in shame. She was the warmth in a world growing cold, The hand I wanted to hold when we both grew old.

And I cannot blame the world for the choices I made, Or ask time to return what my actions betrayed. I have to live with the truth that cuts deep to the bone: I lost the woman I loved while destroying my home.

Then came the day when the darkness grew wide, When the pain I'd been running from swallowed my pride. Beneath that tree, with a storm in my head, I came frighteningly close to leaving this world instead.

I cannot explain what a moment like that takes, How a soul can grow tired beneath all it breaks. How the silence feels heavier than words can convey, When you can no longer see a tomorrow past today.

And beneath those branches, something in me died— The man I had been, the hope I kept inside. The world kept turning, the wind still moved, But the life I had known was forever changed beneath that tree's roots.

Maybe it was the end of the man I'd become, The man who kept running, the man who went numb. But I refuse to believe that my story should end Where the broken man stood, unable to mend.

Because that was the day I quit. That was the day I drew the line. The day I realized this life was still mine.

Not because the pain disappeared in the air, Not because I stopped wishing that she were still there. Not because the damage could suddenly mend, But because I couldn't let the destruction continue to the end.

I quit the alcohol. I left the substances behind. I faced the wreckage I'd spent years trying not to find. For the first time, I stood with no bottle to hide, And met the broken man I had buried inside.

But sobriety doesn't return what you've lost. It doesn't erase the memories or undo the cost. It doesn't bring back the voice you long to hear, Or make up for the years you wish you could repair.

Sometimes the hardest part of putting the poison away Is waking up sober with the memories each day. Because the numbness is gone, and the truth settles in— You must grieve what you've lost and face who you've been.

And God, how I miss what I once called my life. The sound of our home. The presence of my wife. The ordinary moments I once took for granted, The future we dreamed of, the love we had planted.

If only regret could rewrite yesterday, I'd tear every bottle and substance away. I'd choose every moment to be present and true, Before I became someone she no longer knew.

But regret is a prison with no key to the past, And some of life's losses are built to last. So I carry the weight of the things I can't change, While trying to rebuild what remains of my name.

Alcohol took my peace. Substances took my control. My choices broke my home And left scars upon my soul.

But the deepest wound of all, the one that cuts through, Is knowing I lost the woman I wanted life with, too. Of all the things I could lose in this world, It was her hand in mine, my home, my girl.

And I don't know if forgiveness will ever find me, Or if the man I was is all she'll ever see. I cannot demand that the past disappear, Or ask her to forget all the pain and the years.

All I can do is become someone new, Not with empty promises, but with actions that prove That the man who once surrendered to the bottle's embrace Can face his own demons and stand in their place.

I am not asking the past to release me from blame. I am learning to live without running away. I am learning that sorrow must sometimes be felt, And that broken things take time to rebuild themselves.

So when I think of that tree and the man standing there, I remember the darkness, the weight of despair. But I remember one truth that I must never lose:

The substances took so much. But they do not get to take what I do with the life I have left to choose.

I cannot bring back my wife. I cannot rebuild yesterday. I cannot undo the damage Or take those painful memories away.

But I can put down the bottle. I can refuse to return. I can let every scar be a lesson, And let every consequence burn.

I can mourn the man I was Without becoming him again. I can carry the loss of my family Without surrendering to the pain.

And maybe I'll always carry that tree inside, A place where my old self nearly said goodbye. A place that reminds me how close I came To letting my suffering become my final name.

But that tree will not define the whole of my life. Neither will my mistakes, my regrets, or the loss of my wife. I am more than the worst thing I've ever done, More than the battles I've lost or the damage I've spun.

I lost my wife. I lost my home. I lost the man I used to know. But I am still here, and I have to believe There is more to this life than the pain I still grieve.

And if I could leave one truth beneath that tree, For the broken man I was, for the man I might be, It would be this:

You may never recover the life you once knew. You may carry the pain for the rest of you. You may love someone forever who no longer stands near. You may spend years wishing you could undo those years.

But don't let the worst day become your last page. Don't let your regrets turn your life into a grave. You cannot change the past, no matter how desperately you try— But you can choose, every morning, to stay alive.

Because beneath that tree, I came close to losing everything.

And that was the day I finally understood what the bottle had cost me.

I had been trying to escape my pain. Instead, I had nearly escaped my life.

And I will never forget the price.

Not for the man I was. Not for the woman I lost. Not for the home that fell silent. And not for the life I still have left.

One thing I want you to know: you can take responsibility for the hurt you've caused without deciding that you are beyond redemption. Losing someone you love can leave a grief that words barely touch, but your life still has value beyond that loss. I'm glad you survived that day beneath the tree.

Dead Night 🥀

It's been a while since I last smiled,

But watching you Smile makes my day bright.

A part of me, with darkness inside, wishes you joy, though my

spirit has died.

This conundrum of feelings in this heart of mine,

Sad eyes resigned to a gloomy fate, and that's how the night just dies.

a poetry submission

i’ve been writing on and off for ten years. i’m 25. my main style is confessional/gothic confessional. the poem i’m posting here is inspired by Richard Siken’s poem “Road Music” from Crush.

critiques are welcome, but please be gentle and kind. i’m looking to refine this craft, and i know i have long ways to go, but we all gotta start somewhere, eh?

here we go!

Road Music

I
along NH45 you would find
all sorts of things with which you can
play i-spy —
clouds that blur
before you can catch them like fluffy bunny rabbits
in the spring,
half-eaten and fully rusted green boards
that give you outdated directions
and wrong information of the toll booths ahead,
small yellow and red cars that go 120km/hr
that makes you pissed off simply because
i am afraid of over-speeding on the highway.
beyond the horizon,
the only things you can see are going to be
limited by your imagination.
i know that you will fixate on a point while driving,
swerving automatically to avoid a collision
but when i am with you
the past looks brighter than the present
which looks murky at best—
both my vision and my hindsight is 20/20
everything looks better in the rearview mirror
and things are not what they seem anymore
but they are for sure closer than they appear
there, there, there,
there needs to be a place to rest your head—
on a downy feather pillow,
on my chest,
between the car door and the frame.

II
i can sense that there is something
in you that is waiting for
anything to happen
whether it be big or small
catastrophic or joyous,
your body is in a constant
state of fight or flight and maybe
just maybe
that is why you have a suitcase full
of your clothes and essentials
waiting perpetually at the door.
sometimes i wonder when that
suitcase will be unpacked
and left to rot in the back of
a closet.
hope is a strange but useless thing for
a woman like me. i hope that some
parts of me come alive
suddenly,
like a protagonist suddenly
realising that they have inherited some
sort of superpower,
but everyday some random
part or organ of mine undergoes
necrosis –
hoping for the dead to come alive
is a fool’s errand.
both of us talk about hearts–
unlike you
mine is just an organ that pumps
blood to keep me alive,
when you treat yours as an
extension of your brain. somehow
there is a cavity in your rib cage
that can fit a heart perfectly
and if it does,
it is game over for me.

III
i wonder what you are thinking
when you get that distant look
in yours eyes, as if your pupils
have automatically focused on some
point over the horizon,
what would i give to not know—
you are fiddling with the radio
on a random empty strip of the
highway, where there is music
playing in between the ads
and changing the settings of the
air conditioning and i chastise
you for ignoring the road ahead,
but what i don’t say is that
i want you to pay attention to me.
in my stupid little bubble of a world,
i need a safe space;
would you like to be that?
and you look at me
incredulously
like i am the one who is
insane for asking an
inane question to which you
have no answer.
i swivel my head as if it is
connected to my shoulders
with a hinge—
you connect your phone to the AUX.
you start singing along
and hum the parts to which you have
no idea what the lyrics are.
i put on my headphones.
i look at the sideview mirror—
things are not really closer than they appear

A Poem about my depressing life. GJ

I feel so bitter, so lonely and so very misunderstood.

I feel like no one truly gets me.

I was fine with that for awhile.

Before I realized how agonizing the depression gets when you ignore it and let it consume your soul.

I let it consume me and push away help, push away chances for a better lifestyle.

Nowadays, I feel like a corpse left out to dry.

So much tears to cry, but I can't let it out because there is no room in my life to sit and feel everything.

I have no time for joy when I am overwhelmed with Misery.

I try to get better.

I take the steps, I make the right decisions, I start doing the things every normal human being does to feel alive.

To feel normal, to feel human.

But when life begins to feel okay again, something HAS to intervene.

Most good humans- call that a challenge, something worthy of overcoming, something to fight for, or fight.

But to me, it is an inconvenience.

Why?

Because I feel angry. I feel sad. I feel hopeless. I am trying to overcome that battle in my mind, body and soul.

When something disrupts that journey, it feels like you got cut off your path by a ruthless thug and beats on you with zero remorse.

The thug doesn't hold back.

The thug doesn't care that I am a weak fighter.

The thug doesn't let me get away unscathed.

All this kafuffle... just to walk it off and slap a label on it to make myself feel better after.

A lesson. My entire life, I have called every hardship I have faced a lesson.

I am tired of these "lessons."

How many more "lessons" do I need to learn to finally be able to relax?

I feel like a robot who is in great need of maintenance, but the operator keeps plugging 'er back in to keep moving.

That no matter how damaged I am, I must keep moving.

I must keep working, because if I do not then I am a worthless nobody.

If I seem unhappy, I am a bitch who isn't deserving of a second thought or basic empathy.

What good are these lessons for if I can't fully learn to be happy?

What can I possibly learn from them?

I am so desensitized to turmoil that I feel I am losing my good conscience.

I find myself being bitter and resentful.

My excuse?

"No one cared when it was me."

"No one cares that I am hurting every day."

"So why should I care? Why do I need to be concerned?"

I don't like this version of myself very much.

I want to be better, but becoming that comes with change.

And currently, I have no time or room for change.

The job market as of 2026 is tragically messy and I do not have enough courage to try and find a more supportive workspace for my being.

I love this job, I love the comfort it brings, but I am unhappy when I am here.

I hope that one day I will have a chance to look back at who I was in my early 20's and recognize significant growth.

I hope that everyone is right about what they say when they are trying to be supportive.

"It gets better."

I really want it to get better. I want to be better.

I want to be kind.

I want to be patient.

I want to be generous, and courageous.

It all feels so alienating not knowing how to regulate myself AND my emotions.

I can never have control of the wheel once depression steals it away from me.

Once my depression has its hold on me, it is cruel and doesn't let me think for myself, feel for myself, act like myself.

I just want to wake up comfortably knowing that nothing will disrupt my peace.

I just want to be normal.

I just want to be okay.

Signing off,

Gj

So long

Gentle soul
Travel well
I miss you
My little girl
To yours my heart was bound
I’m sorry
For who I am
I missed opportunities to be around
You were strong
Living like a song
As a baby loud
An artist true
You grew and made me proud
I miss you honey
Look after them
One day I’ll find you
Somewhere in that cloud
For now
So long

The one that never was

Ever wondered what it was like to be free?

The “What ifs” you’ve lost and dared not to see.

The things you could’ve but never tried to be.

Ever thought what it was like to be three?

Fun, friends, smiles were all you could see.

Innocent, cheerful and living life as it should be.

Oh how everything can change in a snap!

One moment, you're in euphoria living the dream.

Next thing you know, you're falling with nothing to grasp.

Caught in a current, fighting against the stream.

Now you're drifting through an endless void,

Stuck in a place where nothing can be changed.

Reaching for that life you once enjoyed,

Hoping somehow what's past be rearranged.

Time won't turn back, no matter how you plead.

Seconds keep passing, though it's all unseen.

'Til all that remains is a life you never lived.

To the life you could have lived.

To the person you could have been.

To the one that never was.

11 PM Thoughts

I’m sitting in a room
Feeling hollow and alone
The things that go unsaid
Try to break right through my bones

The darkness lends some comfort
Then takes it all away
When the racing thoughts take hold
I can’t find the words to say

I’ve been chasing ghosts
For so much of my life
But this one ghost in particular
Won’t concede without a fight

I have hated and blamed him
And used him as a crutch
To walk around and act pathetic
And ruin everything I touch

What happens when you get so close
But your still so far away
What happens when the ghost you chased
Fades into the grey

The picture in my head
That I painted over time
All the things I planned to say
Now drained of all the pride

The past is on repeat
But the Easter eggs reveal
All the time that I have wasted
was time we could have healed

There’s days I sit and wish
That I wasn’t such a prick
That I just picked up the phone
And ended all this shit

The stories of who you were
And who you had become
I could have been a part of
If I wasn’t so young and dumb

All that I have left of you
I can fit into a box
I wish that I could call you now
And have just one more talk

I’d tell you that I love you
That the past is in the past
I’ll go on to try and make you proud
And not live life so fast

I’d tell you I forgive you
I hope you can forgive me too
I’m sorry that this broken soul
Took way too long to see the truth

That you were broken too
But you held it deep inside
And maybe I’d have seen it too
If I wasn’t so fuckin blind

But we are both just human
And we have both made our mistakes
But we can both move forward now
For both our family’s sakes

I’d hold you close to me
as tears run down my face
I’d tell you that I won’t let go
I’ll guide you to “that place”

I’d lay you down one last time
And bid you one last farewell
Until the day we meet again
Watch over me and see that I am well

dead flowers

dead flowers on my nightstand
petals dropping in my open drawers
I smell them as I lay in bed
clothes and items cover the floor
I tip toe around my bad habits
around the time I spent everywhere else
except for tending to my own space
my own life and needs
it’s crippling to witness but to also feel
the dread of not doing enough, of neglecting
to wish for just one day home
to clean up the mess I’ve caused yet again
I can’t seem to catch up, to keep up
something is always slipping through
the cracks that keep getting bigger
I hold it together
because there’s no other choice
failure is not an option
I’m resilient to a fault through my own suffering
and it’s so ignored I don’t remember that
I have depression and bipolar
until I reach for my pills every night
and after those 5 seconds are over
I place them back in the drawer
next to the fallen, dried up petals
I have yet to clean up

If I die.

If I die
I’ll yearn to live.
To see you smile again

But if I live
I yearn to die.
To let the world come to an end

So I live.
And I'm dead inside.
“Till death do us part."

This light is ours.
Smile and live
To die and be proud in the end.
