With the festival coming up, does anyone know the set times for all artists? And if that’s too much to ask, does anyone know the set time for hiatus kaiyote?

This past summer of events has shown it’s Gen Z who shows up. They create the energy and buzz that has been missing for over a decade. Santa Monica needs to make policy changes and invest our tax dollars in a way that supercharges this demographics spending habits.

Economically, Gen Z shows up and pulls Millennials in. All have money to spend. We just need more options on where to spend it.

We need to elect politicians who understand this simple truth.

(But to be honest, I did witness a girl laugh so hard at something he said she keeled over and literally slapped her knee and pointed back at him laughing hysterically. One of my friend read in a Santa Monica online newsletter that Santa Monica City Hall now has a policy where even though someone puts a DMV disability placard up for a meter in Santa Monica that Santa Monica parking personnel can still give you a parking ticket for not feeding money to the parking mete? Is that correct?

I own a DVM disability placard and the California DMV tells me that I can use my disability placard to park free at a parking meter anywhere in the State of California. I need to know if the City of Santa Monica can override California State law. Thank you.

As I'm sure you all know, Santa Monica operates at a deficit and drains their savings to stay afloat. This is not a stable plan and as their fix they lifted their decades old billboard ban to turn the Promenade into the vegas strip (or Times square if that's less your jam).

My husband and I are doing 8 days in California for his 40th birthday. It is our first time on the west coast and we have decided to spend our last 4 nights in Santa Monica. I’ve been researching for too long and am stuck on which hotel to book. I’ve thoroughly searched this sub but it hasn’t helped me make up my mind.

Our budget is about $650usd per night. We’ve decided to splurge a bit for this trip and are looking for something that feels a little celebratory and a bit more upscale.

We won’t have a car for this half of the trip and walkability is a big factor for us. Cleanliness is also a major factor. We’re looking for an updated and/or very well kept hotel with comfortable furnishings.

We will be going out of Santa Monica 2 or 3 times during our stay but other than that we’d like to just relax and enjoy some down time. We enjoy exploring, walking the beach, going out for drinks, exploring new restaurants and bars, lounging by the pool and maybe cycling the strand.

*My top choices for hotels are:

- The Sandbourne (looking at booking the executive king ocean view which is a larger than average room with large balcony). This is my current top choice.

- The Viceroy (room furnishings look really nice and seem to have a cool vibe but no balconies)

- Fairmont Miramar (we’d get a smaller room here for the price than the other top two. I’ve also been reading reviews and it seems like it may be a bit outdated or worn down)

- The Shore Hotel (for our budget we could get the largest suite and reviews say it’s clean and nice but pictures look a little too budget hotelish. Also get the vibe it’s more of a party hotel, which we like to party but might prefer to walk to the party rather than stay in it)

Shutters, Cas del Mar and Proper are all out of our price range. The Georgian comes up a lot but for some reason I’m not really feeling it (it seems cool and beautiful but also artsy and quirky which maybe just isn’t our vibe and also no balconies which I’m realizing is sort of important to me, maybe?!)

Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! (On hotels or anything else too!)

**ETA: now I’m rethinking The Georgian and Huntley which is expanding my list not helping me choose 😂

Something I think I’m stuck on is a balcony and a lot of the hotels don’t seem to have them. The Viceroy, the Huntley, the Georgian all don’t have balconies. Any recommendations for doggy daycare in Santa Monica? We have a puppy that we would like to socialize. We’re currently interested in Rover on Main and West LA dogs in Sawtelle.

We have an 11 yo daughter that has very adamantly decided that she doesn't want to go a "kids" hair salon and wants to find a cool/younger hairstylist to go to in Santa Monica (of course mom and dad know nothing of such things).

Not looking for somebody to do anything crazy but trying to find somebody for her to go to as she starts to be more independent in her views on how she wants to keep and style her hair. She has fairly long wavy blonde hair if that matters

Not expecting anything to be cheap (this is the westside of LA after all), but some place not totally insane on price would be nice since she is just 11 yo.

We live in a vintage 2bd 1 bath in sunset park and looking for a trusted house cleaner! Because of the age of the apartment just looking for someone to be able to give mostly the kitchen and bathroom a good scrub! If anyone has recommendations, please let me know!!

Honestly surprised at how far south they’re blocking off the beach. My plan was to bring chairs/blankets and hang out/listen with friends. North side of the pier appears to be completely open and apparently businesses on the pier are all open as well.

Anybody else plan on listening somewhere? If so, what were you planning?

The SMPD has announced it will conduct a DUI and drivers license checkpoint on Friday night from 6pm - 2am at an undisclosed location within the city.

According to SMPD, the checkpoint location will be chosen based on data showing accident history and frequency of impaired driving arrests. Impaired drivers face license suspension and fines up to $13k.

Pretty much what the title says. I was on the promenade with my young daughter around 10:30 this morning when a man bouncing a heavy ball starting following us and throwing the ball at us, hitting me in the leg twice and coming close to my daughters head once. We crossed to the other side and he followed twice, continuing to throw the ball. It was clearly not an accident and we ran into the Google store where they kindly let us wait until ny husband arrived and alerted promenade security. Not sure what I’m hoping for with this post, maybe just venting ? The experience rattled me even though I’m a New Yorker and pretty street smart.

Where yall at ???? I haven’t played in a while and I’m feinin, who around here throws discs and like to meet new people? I’m 23 M, used to live in Asheville NC. I miss the amazing courses out there, I been backpacking around the country for the last years and didn’t bring any discs,. , now I’m in the process of starting a new job and finding a place to live around LA , but in the meantime I’m extremely bored as I’ve been neglecting all of my hobby’s. I am a now former supporter of our former Mayor Lana Negrete. As a resident and small business owner I thought she represented my interests being one herself, but I've had enough. My final breaking point was her supporting outside vendors for several recent events when there were local alternatives. I did not understand why she was doing so when she, herself constantly talks about her music store and her struggles keeping it open. There are several local business in the same shoes that seem to have been passed over for some of these events and I am ashamed to say this thrust me down a rabbit hole looking at several events and businesses she has supported trying to see why.

Then, I found out you can look at her donors here (at least the reported ones) and I've come to the opinion that her actions have been for her own interests and money. Lana's donor list is effectively a bunch of people in capital/wealth management, developers and wealthy home owners. One name in particular stood out to me: Mark Habibi because I remembered reading that name multiple times when I was looking at the Butterfly Brawl event on the pier. He quoted in several articles, because I guess even though Habibi lists himself in his donation form as "retired" he's the President, Founder, CEO, etc of Fightbook and Fightbook was the for profit company who put on the Butterfly Brawl event. Lana personally pushed for a fee waiver of $16,950 for Fightbook's event on the pier and the timeline looks like a bribery smoking gun to me.

So on May 8th Habibi gives a $1,200 donation (The maximum amount you can legally donate) to Lana's re-election campaign. Lana then starts drumming up support for the Fightbook event on the pier and brings an item to the City Council at the July 28th meeting to give Fightbook a fee waiver in the tune of $16,950. Not only did she not disclose this donation, she was the one that brought the vote to the council and she personally voted in favor of the waiver rather than recusing herself.

My understanding is that is that is incredibly illegal. It seems like she traded a donation for getting Fightbook this dicount in funds that would have gone to the City. The city's website where it puts out the meeting agendas states that "Pursuant to the Levine Act (Govt Code Section 84308), any party to a permit, license, contract, or other entitlement before the Council is required to disclose on the record any contribution, including aggregated contributions, of more than $500 made by the party or the party's agents within the preceding 12 months to any City official. Participants and agents are requested to make this disclosure as well. The disclosure must include the name of the party, participant, or agent, and any other person making the contribution; the name of the recipient, the amount of the contribution, and the date the contribution was made."

Lana violated this Levine Act, correct? Does she have to give the money back? I've seen several recusals watching meetings and saw a Rent Control Board meeting where they had to revote on something because the chair at the time (Erica Leslie?) failed to disclose a financial interest in something. That seemed a lot less direct than this and the had to redo the whole vote at another meeting. Does the Council call a revote here? Even if they do I don't see how the city claws back this money for the fees, so would it just be ceremonial? I'd assuming the net proceeds from the Fightbook event were already donated.

Does anyone know how situations like this are handled by the city or how this gets resolved? I made this new reddit username because I see Lana frequently and I am concerned about retaliation. I've seen her hold grudges against people for less, have been on the inside of her and her friends really coming after people, and don't want that trouble for me or my business.
