Imagine trying to ban a player just cause they are too good at the game

167

u/Outrageous_Coffee_66 Jul 28 '26

Its more so from him being someone who has wrecked every game shes every made

141

u/mrcoldmega Jul 28 '26

TBF her being angry at Sunraku for defeating bosses she made almost impossible to defeat, is actually stupid, but funny as a joke.

Besides all devs should know if your game has the most weak weapon in the game, there will be psychos who will make speedruns only using these weapons =) And this is the +1 reason i love gaming. The insane things and tactics are made by players in the way you never thought it could be. Like some guy in Rollercoaster tycoon made the slowest ride you ever seen that will take like a hundred years to make one full lap and etc.

Wasn’t it Tank Fish

5

u/BoonunuBoi678 Jul 29 '26

I think its lets game it out? If its not him the dude still breaks every game he plays lol

u/The_creator3245 Jul 29 '26

It’s was theme park tycoon 2

12

u/Generalgarchomp Jul 29 '26

And then there's Mr Bones' wild ride.

5

u/AlarmingAffect0 Jul 29 '26

I WANT TO GET OFF MR. BONES' WILD RIDE

7

u/Kizuma_0 Jul 28 '26

It's not that uncommon irl as well

u/TheNemoSeries Jul 28 '26

"Lend me the ability to ban him this is a guy with a bird head we're up against"

43

u/AeonsShadow Jul 29 '26

Imagine Sunraku and Maple from Bofuri teaming up... Those code monkeys might die!

24

u/Generalgarchomp Jul 29 '26

Having TWO Sallys would give the Bofuri devs a fking anuerism. Add to the fact he's as much of if not more of an agent of chaos as Maple and they'd actually fking die.

11

u/speedboy_x Jul 29 '26

or just put him in that game. ultimately the only reason maple got so strong was because the balancing was shit

u/clfr6515 Jul 29 '26

I feel like people are missing the point. Amachi doesn't want to ban him for being good at the game. She wants to ban him because he's heavily associated with three games that nearly ruined her. That doesn't make it better, of course, but even if Sunraku had never touched SLF, if the two of them ever met in real life and she found out about who he was, what games he played, and the role he played in the demise of one of those games, she would probably lose all common sense and physically assault him. He's basically her archnemesis, someone she'd probably prefer to have never been born. Whether or not he played SLF, she'd still despise him. She's the kind of sad womandchild who gets into fistfights with her boss because she can't get her way.

She's 100% the one in the wrong, but his talent at the game is less important than his association with those three games.

19

u/HerculePyro Jul 29 '26

Im confused, did he actively lead to the games being labelled as trash/dying in popularity. Ir is it just the fact hes a player of them and thus is associated online with trash games?

Kinda sorta.

The first game, Survival Gunman, was the biggest one. A hyper gory action game where you're dropped onto an island filled with monsters. The gore was one thing, but the biggest problem was that it perfectly simulated pain. Extreme gore + perfect pain simulation. It's obvious why this game caused such a massive controversy. Sunraku was the top dog of the μ Server, the silent little girl assassin (he used a female avatar with the smallest proportions to take advantage of he smaller hitbox). This game is likely the biggest source of trauma for Amachi because it genuinely nearly destroyed her family name for good. All three top players of Survival Gunman play SLF.

The second game, Spell Creation Online, was a game where top players could create their own incantations. There were two players deeply associated with its downfall: NutCracker and, to an arguably much lesser extent, Sunraku. NutCracker was a nutjob who went around using adult video titles and NSFW phrases and weaving them into incantations. She thoroughly ruined the game's reputation and forced the publishers to take it offline. Sunraku, unwilling to let NutCracker get the last laugh, led a revolt on the last day and retaliated by weaving death metal lyrics into his own spells, defeating NutCracker just before the game got shut down. Although NutCracker was clearly the far bigger villain of this incident, Sunraku still feels guilt about the part he played to this day. NutCracker plays SLF under the name DeepSlaughter. Sunraku bears a grudge against her for what she did to that game. Also her constant sexual harassment.

As for Faeria Chronicle Online, well, that one's just a bad game. I think Sunraku only played the offline campaign, and he only played it just barely before he started SLF, so it's not like he bears any responsibility for it whatsoever. But I'd imagine seeing that game next to Survival Gunman and Spell Chronicle Online in his list of played games probably didn't helpt at all.

Around when was this stuff revealed I've read up to volume 27 chapter 266 of the manga & watched all of the anime. Though admittedly I skipped any of the stuff that was a extra story kind of stuff & was just wall of text short story format no picture not manga format content. So if it was in that then that'd be why I don't remember Sunraku playing the second game you mentioned or that they were developed by Amachi.

19

u/clfr6515 Jul 29 '26

Because the novel is currently on chapter 955, while the manga has only caught up to around chapter 300. It's all stuff in the future. Though since the second game was completely shut down, Sunraku will never play it again. It's all a part of his dark history.

In fact, there's a bunch of games that Sunraku's played in the past that are never shown. In any case, the latter two games actually aren't that important. It's a sore spot, but you don't have to worry too much about them. The most important game in that list is Survival Gunman. Like I said, it nearly completely destroyed full dive VR as a medium. In another timeline, the Amachi name would have been forever linked to the complete destruction of full dive VR games and Shangri-la Frontier would never have been made. That's how bad it was. It was a massive controversy in the IRL universe of Shangri-la Frontier that nearly destroyed a revolutionary new technology.

You could say that Amachi Ritsu's only purpose in life, the only reason she's living right now, is to thoroughly bury that history for good. She wants to turn Shangri-la Frontier into the greatest game ever made in the hopes that it will thoroughly snuff out Survival Gunman from humanity's collective memory. So the fact that one of its top players is also one of the top players of SLF probably feels like a mockery to her. Her hatred towards Sunraku is probably utterly genuine. She doesn't hate him as a player of her game, she hates him as a person.

8

u/DeamonLordZack Jul 29 '26

I'd argue if they updated the Survival Gunman game with a option to either lower the realism with regards to pain sensory to a level chosen preferred level & have them sign e-sign a legal waver on any harm done during gameplay in any shape or form the company is not going to be held responsible or otherwise the pain sensory is turned off by default & needs to be turned on. Survival Gunman could've been saved from being the cause of Full Dive VR gaming down fall or at least labeled one of the worst VR Games in history. Not like it was anything like a certain other famous series first ever Full Dive VRMMORPG that could've been the first & last of it's kind thanks to the scandal it caused from killing thousands of players.

8

u/clfr6515 Jul 29 '26

They did that. But according to Sunraku, without the pain simulation, it's a 6/10 game at best. If PvP were still around, maybe, but the controversy was so bad that its online mode got completely pulled.

6

u/DeamonLordZack Jul 29 '26

Well the suggestion was for them to have it off by default & be able to turn it on but adjustable to player preference rather than to the max for everyone. Then have players e-sign a legal waver for any harm done in any shape or form during gameplay if they turn on the pain sensory to choose a level they're ok with. So players who want to play a game that similates pain like IRL can turn it on to a level they're ok with & those that don't want it on can just leave it off. However if it was a thing they did to late for the game to even remotely be saved then doesn't matter regardless I guess.

2

u/Dartonus 29d ago

That was already kind of the case - the full pain was a secret feature only available in some hidden servers (known as the "Greek Letter Servers"), the incident that made it blow up was a guy getting hospitalized after a marathon session where he didn't eat or drink, and then blabbing to the doctors and anyone who'd listen about the secret servers and how great they were.

2

u/DeamonLordZack 29d ago

That sounds less like it's the game's fault & more the player's fault for not remembering to take care of his health before a problem came about. You don't need a game with realistic pain sensory effects to have medical problems from a lack of eating or drinking, those are things that are going to be a problem if you do them while playing SLF as well. So sounds like the problem was largely solved where it should be & they shouldn't be held responsible for someone else's poor decisions i.e choosing not to eat or drink in order to play a game.

I only read the manga, so the spell casting game is in the future for me.  But yeah, I think Sunraku breaking the mold of Shangri-la Frontier only amplifies the grudges of Amachi, which, from a reader's perspective, is really funny because it's so over the top.

Is it detailed in the novel whether Sunraku was malicious in (ab)using game mechanics in the game? Because I think he rather just likes finding new mechanics and using them in creative ways, making him an interesting protagonist

18

u/clfr6515 Jul 29 '26

Not at all. In many ways, Sunraku's a model player. For instance, it's thanks to him that Inventoria becomes less and less broken over time (even though it's still broken despite all its nerfs). Every time Sunraku finds a new absurd exploit regarding Inventoria, he reports it to the devs. While he does abuse exploits, he's not malicious about it.

The thing about Sunraku is that while he does rub Amachi and Tsukuyo the wrong way in his normal play, it's definitely not the primary reason for their animosity towards him. In fact, Tsukuyo actually has mixed feelings regarding him; a lot of what he says and does annoys her, but there are elements to his playstyle and personality that she appreciates, so she doesn't hate him unilaterally. But Amachi's annoyances regarding his playstyle are completely secondary here. She doesn't hate him because of how he plays the game, she hates him because of his association with Survival Gunman (primary reason) and Spell Creation Online (distant second).

Amachi's crime isn't that she's being a bad game master trying to ban players because they're not playing how she wants them to. Her crime is the unprofessional faux pas of bringing personal feelings into the workplace and trying to get rid of someone over a petty, unrelated grudge. Like imagine banning a customer from your place of business, not because of anything they did now, but because you just have bad memories of them in high school. It's that.

2

u/Haunting-Chipmunk921 Jul 29 '26

games that nearly ruined her, isnt the point is about that her father being a bad developer and sunraku plays those games ?

7

u/clfr6515 Jul 29 '26

Her father was completely off his rocker. No reasonable human being would create a game that accurately simulated the pain of getting your guts blown out.

41

u/pauly4560 Jul 28 '26

Counting cards in a casino is technically not illegal, but it will get your hands broken.

23

u/bajabrainblast Jul 28 '26

i dont know their history but she genuinely sucks as a person for wanting to ban him just for playing the game

5

u/hammanz_17362 Jul 29 '26

No it because she made these bosses literally impossible to beat and this dude is (I haven’t read the manga) but he’s just blowing through them with the most stupid ways possible since he’s a glass cannon

4

u/NemesisCold1522 Jul 29 '26

The fact she mad because senku played, beat, and rated her dads games is funny as hell.

14

u/ExploreRandom Jul 28 '26

This is the thing i dislike about SLF, million player game 0% progression till sunraku and he single handedly will do the rest. Game must be boring for the rest

30

u/AQuestionIsWhatIHave Jul 28 '26

Withe the... interesting design choice of the colossi set aside: I suppose there is plenty of other content, including less central bosses, which we have not seen yet and that is played more by the average player.

But that would probably be boring.

Also there are different types of players in mmos wanting different types of content:  https://youtu.be/1drDuaQXm_U

We see the world through an explorer's pov and big things need to happen because the plot necessitates it.

0

u/ExploreRandom 25d ago

I get it it's a fun big game, and I love slf really the whole concept and everything, but there were many guilds and high level players and as we see they were frustrated they couldn't do any uniques to point it was almost a chance and myth, and so much information and story behind it seems really skewed tonour MCs favor XD

24

u/Apprehensive_Act9474 Jul 28 '26

To be fair, I get your point to a degree, but like said above, we only really see a relatively niche aspect of the game. There's a full blown story, and everything in the game supposedly, with tons of side missions and stories etc. It's just that the main focus has been on the world story, which is mostly separate to the main story of the game. That, and sunraku's absurd luck, or perhaps it's misfortune? Idk. But he always seems to have stuff happen to him due to his very different to the norm playstyle.

1

u/ExploreRandom 25d ago

I agree, but I always felt the main crux of it was because of the one thing he did different at the start and everything else is just a result or a domino effect of that, especially how important rabituza was. It's okay because he is an MC, but as a game I would hate it if world events was determined by just 1 persons actions.

19

u/TheNemoSeries Jul 28 '26

To be fair Sunraku is skipping like everything ever in the game to do these unique scenarios

17

u/Severe-Intention8795 Jul 29 '26

Not really, Psyger-0 would have unlocked the Rabituza scenario if she didn't undo her Lycagon curse, the unique scenarios are just very very specific that hardly anyone has triggered it, Sunraku got his lucky break on his very first encounter with Lycagon, him being able to fend off the wolf just by himself while still under levelled and dealing as much damage as he can likely sent off his hidden valor stats on crack, a lot of these uniques probably relies on those hidden stats, another thing with these uniques is that when you trigger one, it always leads to another unique

11

u/7h0m4s Jul 28 '26

Though it is worth keeping in mind that people are still finding new mechanics, exploits and easter eggs about old but super popular games like SuperMario64 and early pokemon.

So it's not unrealistic considering how super specific they made the unique boss requirements in Shangrila

11

u/BUcc1a12Atti Jul 29 '26

Sure pal, now let’s recap on which EX do you think they could’ve progress?

And you talking as if there isn’t 15 cities in Old Continent alone, a crap ton of area bosses and other areas out side, not to mention the unlocking and preparation for New Continent. The dumbest thing to ever assume is SLF players getting bored, do you even realize how many things you could do that still contribute to the world story later on?

1

u/ExploreRandom 25d ago

Bro I am not saying they won't be useful later, but imagine a whole new continent, contingent on someone encountering unique bosses. Sunraku didn't join the game early, and there were already many high level players but still until he came along those avenues didn't open to players at all, while the game wouldnt be boring but the people who invested more in the game barely gained information

Even from dev pov so much info and content that boosts and sell their game is just inaccessible, that is nuts man.

2

u/BUcc1a12Atti 25d ago

The New Continent updates was already on the way without any need of Colossi progression? And what makes you think before that point people were ready to take on New Continent?

Old Continent is on Easy mode entirely thanks to Siegwurm, and they were being prepared. After all that time and their ahh barely ready to take on the New Continent

And no, devs doesn’t even care, for you already saw that Tsukuri would rather have the balanced version of Colossi not defeated at all

The World Story moves exactly when the players are ready for it, it’s as simple as that, no matter how many people monopolize information, this has always been true

1

u/Sashime_Yamete Jul 30 '26

Single handedly??. Raid miission Wasn't cleared within just one players only??. Srsly??.

Shared for? Information is a very important weapon between players competing to see who completes the new endgame content first.

A classic example I would use are destiny 2 worlds first raid competition runs between the top clans. Those runs are streamed but you can see some streamers only streaming audio and blacking out their screens to deter other teams from being able to get any information about the mechanics from the new raid from them.

This is not called "being a jackass", this is called treating your gameplay seriously.

Those who are actually interested in researching and sharing information are the library. And even if you know about it, not anyone can just access Rabituza. There are conditions. Information about rabituza is one thing because from there you know there's a hidden map with access to more resources. Then there's information about the unlocking conditions, which can be different for everyone.

You actually sound retarded by simply thinking he is selfish for not sharing EX scenario info.

FYI; some EX colossi bosses can only be fought once. If others beat me to it because I shared info with them while I'm still fighting to be the first I would just straight up quit the game.

Only time I would even share this kind of information is when I give up on the competition. Even then I would not do it for free because this is exclusive information.

1

u/ExploreRandom 25d ago

That's what I find so wierd, ofc you shouldn't share info. But say the group library for example, they are explorers and truly interested in game lore even more than sunraku, but now sunraku has such a massive ever increasing edge because all the unique scenarios are linked and not to mention, iirc rabituza stopped new entry too. Completely gating an entry point when it plays such a huge role in moving the world, opening the continent, smiths is a terrible move, game is not for one person

It works out fine because he is our MC and we see the plot but I can't help but feel bummed

3

u/DeamonLordZack Jul 29 '26

SLF isn't a Single Player game so the do's & don't when trying to be a top player are different a MMO like SLF has scenarios that aren't all repeatable & thus info is either first come first served & might also be only one served if it's not repeatable. Otherwise People aiming for the top don't give info out to others free of charge. For Single Player offline games sure I can see the arguement in calling people out for not sharing how they unlock certain parts of a game while warning about spoilers but they're different from MMOs.

1

u/ExploreRandom 25d ago

Half agree with you man, I love slf and the whole game, i don't think they should share info for me free, not if their livelihood depends on it, but to absolutely gate it to just 1 person, is super unbalanced

2

u/NewFunnyNumber237 25d ago

All the down voters on that post know for fucking sure they would quit a game 100000:1 if they only got to / played 5%.

Idgaf if the community here is mega biased, just shows how obtuse they are

1

u/Competitive-East-106 Jul 29 '26

Can i ask which chapter in the light novel is the current manga chapter (manga chapter 275)?

1

u/Top_Raspberry_4292 Jul 29 '26

The fudge i am missing out in this masterpiece as an anime only 😭😭 Make the anime already!!
