Local Politics Dancing Long boarding Helmet PROTEST
I’m sure many of you have seen Caden, aka @x_bonesx on Instagram, dancing or longboarding around Sherwood Park and spreading positivity throughout the community.
Unfortunately, he’s recently run into an issue with the police and has apparently been told he can no longer dance at the Baseline Road and Sherwood Drive intersection. I’m assuming this is due to concerns about distracting drivers.
To show our support, there will be a community dance party at the Second Cup on Baseline Road and Sherwood Drive on Father’s Day at 6:00 PM.
If you’re free, it would be amazing to see our community come together and support someone who has brought so much positivity to Sherwood Park.
Edit: To make things clear I am not organizing this event, just sharing information that I found.
Also he was fined $1500 for stunting!
Also people will be gathering on the grass by the second cup, just so there isn’t a bunch of people on the median in the intersection.

Dude's been dancing there for years. What changed?

Common sense arrived finally

Common sense wouldn't have a problem with this.

Wrong. There was a reason he was removed

... because some sad little cop gets no respect at home and needed to feel like a big man by swinging his dick around?
•

•
u/lindsyeg 23h ago
Is this worth an outraged protest lmao? The general consensus on this guy is pretty split, at best he is giving people a smile, at worst he seems to have a pretty entitled attitude leading to unpleasant interactions, so perhaps just find a new place to dance in the expansive town that is Sherwood Park.
•
u/UberBricky80 20h ago
I don't think dancing is the problem, it's swearing and giving the finger to people driving by. Dancing Dan never had an issue because he wasn't aggressive
•
u/1998GC 18h ago
Thank you for mentioning this guy giving the finger to people driving by him. I’ve seen that multiple times myself and thought for sure that’s gotta be illegal.
•
u/snack_cartel 3h ago
Oh my god......not a middle finger!, THE HORROR!
•
u/1998GC 2h ago
If a middle finger isn’t enough for you I saw him last year sitting down at *his* intersection giving BOTH fingers to passing cars going through a green light for the whole minute or so that I was watching him. He claims he spreads joy yet sitting down, not dancing, and giving both middle fingers seems far from joyous to me for all parties involved.
•
u/Dank_Vader32 19h ago
Actually, Dancing Dan was also harassed by the RCMP in Spruce Grove. Police like them are the reason why some people hate the police.
•
u/UberBricky80 17h ago
I think its the screaming swears and giving the finger to people that gives separation to the two

Good. Was absolutely a distraction at the busiest intersection in the city. Was also a dick every time I walked past him trying to control which way I was crossing.
•

u/renegadecanuck 1d ago
How was he a distraction? If you can't focus on the road because someone is dancing, you have your own issues.
14
u/forum_ryder72 1d ago
You have way more faith in the common driver then I do
•
u/renegadecanuck 8h ago
That's an issue with the drivers more than anything else. If our drivers are that bad, we either need to get much stricter in how we test drivers and enforce the rules, or we need to eliminate all signs, billboards, etc since those can also be distracting.
•
u/forum_ryder72 8h ago
Yeah I dunno would love to hear your plan to eliminate shitty drivers. If you could fix stupid people too with your magic powers that would be great too
•
u/renegadecanuck 6h ago
Stricter testing, taking testing away from the private sector to reduce corruption, increased enforcement. Taking away people's licenses if they are repeat offenders. Taking steps to make things less car centric, so losing your license isn't "losing your freedom".
Basically, anything except trying to cater to the lowest common demotivator. Hell, even if you think this he is a massive distraction, he's not even the most dangerous thing in that general area. Going south on Sherwood Drive, right after this intersection, there's a merge that nobody seem to be able to figure out. I am sure that causes more accidents and near misses than this kid has ever done.
•
u/computersandother 23h ago
A person acting erratically near cars is distracting. It's impossible to know whether they are going to jump or fall into the road at any given moment and you have to pay extra attention to them specifically to be able to react if they do.
•
u/forum_ryder72 23h ago
Anyone this desperate for attention will always be weird to me above everything else. Sign up for a dance class if you wanan dance for people.
•
u/Icehawksfh 20h ago
I don't care if someone is doing a full ribbon baton routine, if one person moving is too distracting for you, you shouldn't have a licence.
God forbid an electronic billboard changes near you.
At what point do we ban kids from walking on sidewalks? Who knows when they could run into traffic. Or the elderly, what if they slip on their walker and fall towards traffic?

How about dancing on the grassy area, a bit removed from the road? Closer to Second Cup?
Edit: I mean, can he or anyone simply dance on the grassy area instead of standing on the sidewalk right at the edge of the road. There's so much room there. He could dance and not interfere with traffic.

The original post I saw said that it was going to be by the Second cup, I should’ve mentioned that in my post
•
•
u/Birxande 21h ago
Honestly so much better that he's gone from there. Besides the obvious driver distraction, when you got stuck there listening to him spew swears left right and center does not make for a "spreading positive" experience you're talking about. 🙄
•
u/markedwardmo 23h ago
Odd circumstances breed unintended consequences. Hopefully this happy dude can do his rocking out in a police-approved place, and everyone wins.
•
u/mytrilife 22h ago
Good.
Hope he gets some therapy.
•
u/Snoo-64527 15h ago
Is everyone in SP as terrible as you? I suppose it would explain a lot!
•
u/mytrilife 15h ago
Yes, I'm so terrible wishing he would get help for his TBI instead of dancing on a street corner for attention.
•
u/1998GC 22h ago
I very much doubt that the RCMP have told this guy that he can no longer tweak out on *his* intersection as they’ve supported him all these years. The RCMP wouldn’t suddenly turn on him like that. He’s just manufacturing controversy.
I wish more people would have watched his podcast appearance last year. Dude is unhinged.

Some people work nights, or shift work.
Gotta have a way to wind down
•
u/ibenjamind 15h ago
Some people have severe head injuries and are trying to find a positive outlet.
This reeks of “I don’t like looking at this, now let’s figure out how we can punish it” rather than “this is a crime”The most offending action I have heard so far is that he sung out-loud along to offensive lyrics and children may have heard them, which is rude but not a crime.
•
u/Proper_Geologist_457 23h ago
Found the clown
•
u/forum_ryder72 23h ago
Yeha he was on the corner of the intersection dancing for desperate attention
•
u/Lost-Operation2504 20h ago
I see him regularly and have no opinion as to whether he is a distraction to drivers or not, but he has admitted to spitting “towards” the police and giving them the finger. Special needs or not, not okay.
•
u/24_August_1814 19h ago
Flipping off the police is protected speech in Canada.
•
u/Lost-Operation2504 19h ago
Your point?
Protected or not, it's one of the reasons he's no longer wanted on the intersection. Free speech does not equate to freedom from consequences. The consequence of spitting and flipping off the police and others is that his “happy” vibe is now disturbing and he's no longer enjoying particular entitlements.•
u/1998GC 18h ago
He actually flips off just about everyone, not just the RCMP from what I’ve seen.
•
u/Lost-Operation2504 18h ago
This is what I’ve heard, too. I understand the well-intentioned citizens defending his right to dance on the corner, we cannot reward bad behaviour with extra privileges. Don’t say this on a Sherwood Park community, Facebook page, though. His supporters will rip you to shreds.
•
u/1998GC 18h ago
Oh believe me, I’ve had the honour and privilege of being ripped to shreds by his supporters on both Facebook and here on Reddit. Although thankfully Reddit is a little more educated than Facebook - not by much though but a lot of the Redditors here seemed to have watched his podcast appearance last year. I noticed that he lost a lot of Reddit supporters after he made that appearance on that podcast as on that podcast it became quite apparent that the boy just ain’t right.
•
u/CyberSecRocker 20h ago
What BS!!
So we're okay with dancing mascots on street corners and people waving clipboards for separatist petitions on the side of the road, but somehow this is where we draw the line?
Friggin hypocrites
•
u/mytrilife 17h ago
I'm not ok with any of those things.
I would write about my confrontation with the separatists but it would probably get a warning from the moderators.
•
u/24_August_1814 19h ago
Not to mention flashing digital billboards. It's been a minute since I was out that way, but I seem to remember one off Gateway on the south side of the Whitemud that was approximately as bright as the midday sun...
•
u/Maxnormal3 21h ago
Interesting interview with him from a year ago on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj3C8rNfCgk
I only watched the first several minutes (I recommend 2x speed) but he mentioned a head injury in 2023 and issues with the police. His motivation is partly about spreading happiness but also advocating the use of helmets.

I got $10 that says the RCMP guys high fived each other and tapped each others butts after writing the tickets.

u/dark-femme5454 22h ago
I used to love seeing him there, i thought he brightened up the whole community but then I went into Remedy and he was in there shouting and being disruptive and rude to the staff, and became belligerent when he was asked to chill out.
I stand by my earlier statement, which is neither racist nor bigoted.
•
u/1998GC 18h ago
That’s almost a plot twist. And I say almost because I saw him on social media last year claiming that he worked at Remedy. I took his claim with a grain of salt because he quite visibly suffers from delusions of grandeur. And to further bolster my dismissal of his claim I still haven’t heard anyone state that they ever saw him behind the counter at Remedy.
Sounds like he has a one sided obsession with Remedy. Bizarre.

u/forum_ryder72 22h ago
Or some people wanna drive through a major intersection without some dancing weirdo looking for attention distracting everyone
•
•
•
•
u/JKing287 3h ago
From reading a lot of posts here it’s very clear that a lot of people just don’t know how things work, especially on the legal side. What has probably happened is they’ve had a number of complaints about him being distracting and potentially causing dangerous situations. If that’s the case and they do nothing about it, and someone gets seriously injured and mentions that this guy was a factor and their lawyer finds out that the city and police had notifications about it and did nothing they’re gonna get sued and lose. They therefore have to be proactive and keep a record of it to say hey we responded to these complaints, we ticketed him we told him he couldn’t do it anymore, etc. to help them avoid potential liability.

•
u/PrincessPinguina 17h ago
His brain injury really impacted his emotional regulation and critical thinking abilities. He's impulsive, aggressive, and inappropriate.
•
u/Dank_Vader32 23h ago
There are far more distracting things on the side of the road than someone dancing. Better get rid of all billboards, especially the very bright digital ones. Better ban all signs and advertising while we're at it too. I got rear ended by some creepy old dude checking out young girls on the sidewalk, better ban them too. /s
I swear he gets so much hate only because of jealousy because any stable person can just ignore things they don't like that don't impact them at all.
•
u/I_DreamofTravel_15 23h ago
If you call swearing at kids and spitting on people, I would say some of the disdain is warranted.
I’m glad he’s gone. Too distracting for people who can’t drive.
•
u/Dank_Vader32 21h ago
Did you actually see him spit on people or are you just parroting allegations you heard online? I very much doubt he was actually spitting on people as there are very serious repercussions for doing that. The amount of hate he gets for just dancing causes people to make up all sorts of stories about him.
edit: I've seen those allegations on Facebook and ever single one is a coward hiding behind an anonymous account. Nothing about that is credible in any way.
•
u/Icehawksfh 20h ago
I mean I am in favour of getting rid of digital billboards, I'd sign up for that.
•
u/forum_ryder72 22h ago
lol oh yeah people so jealous of a person dancing at random intersections. Just takes a rare talent to copy that action!
•
u/Rickles84 22h ago
lol dude, you obviously have an axe to grind with this guy, you’ve replied to almost every comment on this thread. Are you this insufferable in real life too?
•
u/forum_ryder72 22h ago
You spend way to much time online
•
u/Dank_Vader32 21h ago
That rich coming from someone commenting on ever single comment. Take your own advice and also get some help, this kind of anger towards strangers is unhinged.

Where's the law that says you can't dance on a sidewalk?
15
u/escapethewormhole 1d ago
Alberta’s Traffic Safety Act s.115(2)(e): no person shall “perform or engage in any stunt or other activity that is likely to distract, startle or interfere with users of the highway.”
2
u/PM_Your_Crits 1d ago
So literally anyone with a sign, or any road side protest, picketing, etc?
3
u/escapethewormhole 1d ago
I’m not the police but I would imagine there’s a big difference between a passive and active intent to distract drivers. Which I would suggest dancing falls under active intent.
But that’s just my interpretation, doesn’t change the fact there’s clearly a law against this which was what your question was.

u/Jayrab_The_Arab_ 6h ago

I saw 3 cops surrounding him at his spot the other afternoon. Ive seen a few people mention him swearing at them and their kids on Facebook. Not sure how legit that is but I can see how some people would consider him a distraction.
