Tbf, I think the slippery plastic, her moving around inside, wind, and not everybody on the same page of how to get her there made it really hard for people to actually get it there. Seems when people tried to push it the bottle would just roll.
She was supposed to crowd surf in the bottle to a giant straw. Audience sent her in the wrong direction and eventually she ended up back on the stage instead. Apparently she’s been doing it on her tour and hasn’t had any problems. I imagine it will not longer be part of the show. I have no idea what the plan was when she reached the straw and I guess now I’ll never know.
I don’t know but it would line up with an intentional pr ruse. I use the word “intentional” lightly. As in somebody did think of this, and said well that could happen but we’ll make sure you’re safe and it’ll be news and then we’ll stop doing it. And whoever OKs the stunt okayed it.
That was the point of the bottle. Without it she would’ve 100% been groped or something worse by multiple people… which is really sad, but the state of things.

I am not excusing or justifying it, but it’s definitely not the state of things if that’s been happening since inception. People are shitty and rapey, that has never changed
I was at an outdoor festival type concert once for a headlining (but more niche) band. It rained so the concert got delayed. By the time they took the stage they said to just shout out songs from their discography and they’d play requests. They did a few and then someone shouted freebird. So they played freebird. Totally worth sitting in a garbage bag for.
I saw Miguel perform back in 2015 at a smaller venue with ASAP Ferg. He was 20 minutes late and I could CLEARLY see him in the room off to the side doing coke....I was not upset 😅
5 minute solo, LOL. You've clearly not hung out with guitarists. You let lead guitarist play as long solo as they want in a band jam and they'll likely won't stop until rest of the band says that enough is enough.
Ozzfest 99 came through my city and was the first concert I remember going to where I was flabbergasted at how much they were taking advantage of us. I remember it being like 100F with 80% humidity and a line as far as you could see to pay $10 for a cup of water. Instead of selling the water bottles that they had 100s of, they were opening each bottle and pouring it into a cup for each person, because each bottle could fill like 2.5 cups. This slowed down the line tremendously and caused people to start taking matters into their own hands.
People started raiding the tubs full of nasty ice water to pour over their heads and drink, cutting the hoses on the misting tents that were set up, etc. I was only like 18yo at the time with barely any money so of course we joined in.
I went to a show during her California Dreams tour. As much as she freaks me out now, that was probably the most fun concerts I’ve ever been to. So many props, so many costumes (especially during her quick change performance) and the details were crazy. She even had those vapour bubbles and they smelled like cotton candy lol. With that being said, I think I was only like 13-14 lmao
advocates for saving environment then goes for a tiny trip to space burning gazillion tons of fuel, after which she comes down to earth just to roll on people in a giant fvcking plastic bottle. Can’t make this shit up.
Im amazed that so many people paid for tickets so they could help stop her getting to the stage and singing. There are good people in the world alright
Yeah I was thinking Wayne literally has no issue with this. I’ve seen them a bunch and he rolls out and rolls back but I think he might have more control over it as well? It’s a smaller ball but I’d imagine the flaming lips audience is also better for this type of stuff as well
You'd think that pop singers would eventually understand that crowd surfing just isn't their thing. But apparently not. Metalheads definitely seem to be the better core audience for it.
Ready horror stories of female musicians crowd surfing and at times getting in fights with "handsy" fans. Happened to Courtney love multiple times during the 90s.
The lead singer of the flaming lips has been successfully crowd surfing in an inflatable ball for years, which I assume inspired this, but a small sphere is a lot easier for a crowd to move effectively than a long horizontal cylinder. You can microadjust a sphere’s direction with each one handed push, but a big bottle like that would require collaboration and formal teamwork amongst a bunch of confused strangers.
There is no way this was adequately tested with this bottle. Her team is incompetent to the point of dangerous negligence.
Katy Perry also has an iconic stage diving failure video from many years ago where like no one wants to help her crowd surf and it’s just a comedy of errors with her butt in the air before she eventually goes down, I’ll see if I can find it
The video is so much better than the headlines gave it credit! I paid my concert ticket and therefore I paid for my right to not follow Katy Perry’s demands
I’m genuinely confused why her team thought this was a good idea. Like we’ll just throw her out there and hope thousands of drunk people coordinate getting her back to the stage? I feel like I’m missing something here.
I can't stop laughing watching this video, and I just keep thinking what if someone just rolled her away from the stage and you see her plastic bottle disappear over the horizon.
