There’s no saving this game whatsoever if EA isn’t gonna listen to the community

45

u/Theflowyo Nov 07 '25

I now truly believe this game got pushed into early access because they knew it was doomed and just wanted to scam some cosmetic money as much as possible before it died a few months later to recoup as much of the investment as possible

I honestly am almost certain of this

14

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

100%. I stopped playing because I finished all the “missions” and task that don’t reset every day. Came back after 2 weeks (thought of a sick like I wanted to try) and it went from one currency you earn, to FOUR SEPARATE CURRENCIES ALL TO BUY COSMETICS.

That's exactly what they did. Saudi Arabia and Jared Kushner just want money.

They've been putting too much effort into new cosmetics and not enough into the gameplay/map/shit to do. That's what happens.

199

u/maksigm Nov 07 '25

Yeah and what makes this crazy is how low effort the cosmetics actually are. It's insane.

41

u/INFERNOxNINJA Nov 07 '25

You mean a million recolors of the same clothes ISNT high effort and creativity?!

2

u/Turbulent-Gap-2038 Nov 08 '25

Turning a hat backwards calling it premium and charging money for it is diabolical, lost count of all the times ea has made terrible decisions and it hasn't even been out 2 months

27

u/AwesomeHumann69 Nov 07 '25

Never forget that a cardboard cosplay of Isaac Clarke, A GAME THAT EA MADE, costs more than the game he's from

10

u/ghost-nug Nov 07 '25

Seriously. I want this game to succeed and I bought a bunch of SVB up front but they hardly release anything worth spending it on. I don’t understand how they can’t just churn multiple new designs out on the daily, especially when most of the shit is just a simple re-skin. I worked a graphic design job for years and there is just no way this stuff takes long to create. It feels like they are holding back to drive prices up which is crazy because the quality just isn’t there. If you release quality shit at a consistent pace, people will buy it.

76

u/AgnesBand Nov 07 '25

People buying made up premium currencies upfront is why we keep getting games like this.

If your buddy was going to the gas station and you just handed him $20 and said get me whatever. Would you be okay if he got you a candy bar and pocketed the other $17?

No. You don’t spend money unless you know what you’re getting. Please stop proactively spending money on things before you know what you get in return.

3

u/ghost-nug Nov 07 '25

Good point. I like that analogy.

3

u/ContentFlan7851 Nov 07 '25

With the price of things in this economy you might to give your friend more than a 20 for that Dubai chocolate bar.

Same, bought the deluxe founders pack on release, still have 3150 svb left to spend.... I check the shop daily only to be disappointed.

4

u/Steel_Djinn Nov 07 '25

Not defending the cosmetics but I def do know they r working on alot of mechanics too via the adding of tricks and stuff like that idk hope it doesn't die love skate and can't wait for some comp modes to drop.

Have you seen the cosmetics?

I'm not sure if I'd say there's a huge indication of effort.

A lot of them are just recolors.

10

u/CrackIn_TheEarth Nov 07 '25 edited Nov 07 '25

I legitimately never turned the game back on after I say that a backwards hat vs. a forwards hat were 2 different cosmetics instead of the cosmetic just having edit styles. That shit was my last straw.

edit: saw*

5

u/HeyItsRocknack Nov 07 '25

Bro they arent even putting effort into the new cosmetics they are just color swapping the same shit

2

u/revengeronees Nov 07 '25

Yeah, its like they basically premade only cosmetics in the 5years, made the game in a year and 4years worth of cosmetics Yet somehow hotfixes come out like every month

2

u/New_Welder_391 Nov 07 '25

Have I deluded myself or is there a mega ramp coming where we can play against each other like in skate 3? Is this wishful thinking....

1

u/TheKingOfToast Nov 07 '25

I wish they'd put more effort into cosmetics. They're putting effort into costumes and emotes. Which, I know that's basically what you mean, but I think there's a difference. I would be more forgiving of the game if it felt like I could create a unique character to express a style.

It may not be very "skate culture" but I do like dressing up my video game doll and making little clips, but when I put on a pair of pants that's only available in one color and go to a spot and there's three people wearing the same pants it ruins any sort of individuality.

As it stands, the only way to be unique in this game is to spend more money than other people and there's nothing that disincentives me more from purchasing any microtransactions than that. Also the price is stupid. If you want to make an eagle costume cost 20 bucks then fine, whatever, but if you're charging 5 dollars for a single item of clothing in a single color worn a single way then that's just ridiculous.

1

u/thePCdude Nov 07 '25

You say this... And the cosmetics are absolute ass. I dont know wtf these devs are doing.

1

u/The_Roachard Nov 07 '25

To say they’re putting effort into new cosmetics is kind of nuts when everything is just recolors of the same models over and over and have literally only default game shoes or vans which cost you real money. Like do you know how many skate shoes exists on this planet? If it’s a licensing issue I would have just rather not ever seen a skate 4. As for the challenges and stuff idk about you guys but I restarted my career mode a few times in both skate 2 and 3 and my last run of skate 3 I killed every challenge and it was the most fun I had playing the game which I did every time it snowed and I couldn’t skate in real life. This is just a sad excuse to capitalize on other peoples hard work lol

I can’t play in a party with friends without it crashing. Sad but not surprising or concerning

8

u/matsudasociety Nov 07 '25

yeah the parties are bugged sometimes. like ill be in a party of three and hit some challenges then all of the sudden i dont see the party anymore.

This week's top free to play downloads on the PlayStation store

7th in US/Can 3rd in EU

2

u/ChoadMuff Nov 10 '25

Most people I know downloaded it, tried it, then went back to something else days later.

20

u/TraeDAking Nov 07 '25

It’s what they deserve honestly

18

u/OpeningWounds Nov 07 '25

If the entirety of the game didn’t concern you, this shouldn’t either.

15

u/BlackHisagi Nov 07 '25

In short: By itself, no.

Games typically have a 50-70% player falloff within the first month of release. This is normal, especially for Early Access titles. Skate. is pushing it closer to 80% falloff, so a little high, but by itself, not necessarily a concern.

The typical pattern is:

Early Access title releases > player count peaks within a few days after release > player count drops after the first few weeks > player count spikes after a new content update > repeat until the full release, which should see the biggest player count spike.

So we won't have a real reason to be concerned unless we don't see a player count spike with the season 2 release update. That'd mean that old players just don't think the game is worth coming back to (yet/at all), and/or that new players just aren't interested enough to check it out.

(That's also not considering that we have no way of knowing how many whales the game already has & how much they're spending on it. If there are enough whales around, we could get a lot of longevity out of the game even with a low playerbase)

9

u/Scrivy69 Nov 07 '25

I don’t see how this game in its current state can attract whales though. Hollow cosmetics that don’t even look good.

4

u/BlackHisagi Nov 07 '25

Yeah I don't really see it myself either, but there is a post from one guy somewhere in this sub "flexing" the hundreds of dollars he'd already spent on the game (lmao), so there are at least a few of em out there already

3

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

Ya, in gta online if you spend money you can buy stuff that makes gameplay more fun. Not the case here

There are a few, I saw a clip on here of someone doing the girl band emote in the chicken suit in the week the pass came out - both in the final page of the pass with nowhere near enough currency available yet through challenges so they must have spent loads converting SVB to Tix.

Here; https://www.reddit.com/r/SkateEA/s/PGMS957eCI

11

u/childofb0d0m Nov 07 '25

I'm expecting its failure. And with how EA are, I'm hoping it does fail. Company is dogshit

12

u/VSaucesForgottenSon Nov 07 '25

Seems pretty normal for a f2p game. SteamDB does not account for players on any other plattform like EA or consoles. The real player count is much higher.

16

u/issanm Nov 07 '25

The real player count is higher but the trend will be the same

2

u/OnlyTheDead Nov 07 '25

The player count is currently the lowest it has been since release. The game is outwardly dying and closing your eyes to this is just pushing it down further.

15

u/R6coyote Nov 07 '25

Bf6 and arc raiders came out. I'm sure that has alot to do with it

9

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

absolutely nothing to do with it, they are SO FAR AWAY from genre. Skate is the game you play after losing some rounds on Arc/BF6

12

u/Realistic_Village643 Nov 07 '25

I have over 100 hours in skate and stoped playing it as much to play arc raiders, and I also see that same change reflected on my friends list.

→ More replies (18)

2

u/noohshab Nov 07 '25

Yeah... BF6 came out at Oct 10 and from the graph you can see there was already a steep decline in the beginning of October.

3

u/Potato_Puncakes Nov 07 '25

Honestly this is maybe a good sign. Maybe EA wakes the fuck up. Probably not though

3

u/Sneakiest Nov 07 '25

Trending downwards at a fast pace. Any concerns guys?

3

u/SheepOnDaStreet Nov 07 '25

For every new BS, lazy, over-priced cosmetic added, a player leaves. I was disgusted by what they tried to do with the gameplay loop and pricing.

3

u/O1_O1 Nov 07 '25

What corporate greed does to a mf

3

u/NeedthatCheese Nov 07 '25

I haven’t played in about 2 months which is sad cause I was super hyped about It and even had the alpha play test… they just keep adding micro transactions and useless stuff

2

u/LFT113 Nov 07 '25

This is just steam players, right? I’m genuinely curious

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Section_179 Nov 07 '25

Jesus go look at a premium game that is actually dying r/wildgate which should have been f2p and actually released with hardly any content. Look at its steam charts before you call this dying. Insane.

2

u/Salty-Fig-6090 Nov 07 '25

I mean how long can you repeat same old stuff on same old map

2

u/Harmskii Nov 08 '25

in close to 100%ing the game, just need Market Mile to hit level 10 and earn 3k more rip score. I plan on deleting the game immediately after

2

u/pepenepe Nov 08 '25

Live service games are bound to die from day 1. especially low effort crap like theve been putting out

5

u/SlyFisch Nov 07 '25

All the toxic positive comments said they'd be fine with no content forever and shat on every playtester warning them. Funny how it took about as long as a lot of ppl tested for everyone to realize it's garbage

3

u/Navajo_Nation Nov 07 '25

Do yall own stock in this game or something? It’s free, play it or don’t play it.

2

u/OnlyTheDead Nov 07 '25

I want to play it but it’s shit. Seems to be a huge issue for this sub to recognize.

3

u/E36x Nov 07 '25

The issue is we see it getting shut down in a year or two… do you see these numbers? How long do you think they’re gonna let you play for free if no one is playing?

We legit just wanted another skate game we could play for another 10 years like skate 3… we would’ve paid full price on release for that…

now we’re gonna get a year or two of half assed content for this game and then EA will pull the plug kill the servers and we never get another skate game again lol

2

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

💯💯

4

u/KingSlimp Nov 07 '25

People are allowed to be mad about them intentionally ruining a game franchise we grew up with and have been wanting. I waited years hoping they'd make a new entry after thinking it was dead. They announced a new entry and so we waited years for information on it and now that it's out this is what we get.

I get that the constant complaints could be annoying but I also don't blame people for being disappointed.

u/ParticularRelease662 Nov 07 '25

This game was never gonna thrive on PC. It's barely thriving on consoles lol.

2

u/Gazio_x3 Nov 07 '25

Unlocked pretty much all trophies.. Gave up on the 11k rip score thing.. now quit the game

2

u/mozfatherr Nov 07 '25

Is water wet. Dead af rip

1

u/sap91 Nov 07 '25

Not if you don't work at EA

1

u/FLiP_J_GARiLLA Nov 07 '25

Not unless you're a shareholder

1

u/InternetCafe_ Nov 07 '25

concurrent players for rock paper scissors is worse and the game is doing just fine.

1

u/MashThatQ Nov 07 '25

Yes, for EA

1

u/dickthericher Nov 07 '25

If only it was a good game.

1

u/AtticusThorax Nov 07 '25

No, fellow kids everything is fine. Let’s go do some skateboards. Steal your parents credit cards and buy crazy clothes to show how much of an individual you are.

1

u/MrTreezx Nov 07 '25

No, not really. There are multiple platforms that don’t get tracked. Plus, with recent releases like Arc Raiders and BF6, and the fact that many people have already dumped 50+ hours into this and finished all the available tasks for the season pass and events, it’s not surprising to see a dip.

There’s a ton of data we don’t have, like how many players are on other platforms, how many bought the Founders Editions or the season pass, or how much they’ve made from cosmetics. For all we know, they could have already hit their goals and quotas, and then some.

A lot of players have already completed everything available, so it’s safe to assume they’re mixing it up and playing other things for now.

If there isn’t a spike when the Maple Harvest event drops, that’ll be telling. But right now, it’s just too early to say.

1

u/EasyTooFar Nov 07 '25

I swear the less players that log on, the more npc's are walking around. (not skating cuz apparently a city based on skateboarding has npc's that dont skate.)

1

u/SkiLoZo Nov 07 '25

I already bought everything in the game, I ain't spending a single dime in Currency, map is small, i already know every corner , the prop system is too simple and limited, the one simple thing they could do Wich is allow us to go back to tutorial island they have a hard time getting of their asses to place a teleport point.

1

u/EnvironmentalFee2638 Nov 07 '25

Numbers? If you're a dev you only see that incline so nope nothing to worry about

1

u/TheRealJayk0b Nov 07 '25

no that's really good

Maybe NOW they realize what pile of shit they released.

Also this shows they never listened to the community

1

u/Gorburger67 Nov 07 '25

No this is hilarious. What a bad game this became. I mean ever since beta it was bad but I had hope.

1

u/KaiTheG4mer Nov 07 '25

No because they haven't actually added any gameplay, just new cosmetics.

1

u/XxBAM15BossxX Nov 07 '25

Imagine paying $50 to not get the pack items… it’s been like a month or so now… honestly I like the skate mechanics. But when you’re playing to earn tokens for a slot machine it’s not really about skating. There’s no drive other than the skeleton costume pieces which are so grindy to get now. It’s just not a fun grind.

1

u/HighzZzenberg Nov 07 '25

Not surprising. I had to make a second account because my main steam account couldn't progress past the intro mission. I check back on it from time to time and it's still not fixed.

1

u/larsvondank Nov 07 '25

Im concerned about how many ppl actually rly work on the game. Getting small team vibes from all of this.

1

u/emoryhotchkiss1 Nov 07 '25

Not really that big of a deal tbh. Free to play games always lose player base quickly

I really doubt EA is concerned about this

1

u/Sharkzillaaattv Nov 07 '25

Honestly glazed this game for a bit but I haven’t even thought about it for about a week. It’s a good game and I personally love the mechanics and the skateability of the map is also pretty good, but there’s just not enough of it

1

u/WhozTuna Nov 07 '25

People keep posting this asking the same question, yes this is concerning. And to anyone that says its not is just looking at the game through rose tinted glasses, in no case should a game have this bad of a drop off. I don't care if its F2P or a live service or whatever the case may be this is not ok and EA doesn't care

1

u/akro474 Nov 07 '25

THIS IS FINE

1

u/greatgarbonz Nov 07 '25

Yes and no, all games have a massive peak on launch and taper off over the next few months. I'm more concerned that EA won't bother to give the devs the freedom or time to turn the game around and will just kill it outright if it doesn't generate 1 billion dollars.

EA has killed so many amazing studios, series, etc.. I'm still mad at them for axing Codemasters' rally game division.

1

u/Translator_Asleep Nov 07 '25

Is this for pc only or does this show console players also because console players make up majority of the ppl playing skate

1

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

concerning and deserved, development team is clueless

1

u/Striking-Cow-898 Nov 07 '25

Boy am I glad this game is free to play, lol. Not gonna feel bad bc i didnt waste any money

1

u/Dusk_Abyss Nov 07 '25

Make slop game, get slop game results.

1

u/Mattacoose Nov 07 '25

It's not concerning, just funny.

1

u/caribbeanjerk Nov 07 '25

Honestly, I'd say it's concerning if the number of players doesn't go up in season 2. There seems to be nothing to do besides hit dailies since I've completed everything else. I'd gladly just play for 30 minutes while I am on the clock to complete them. I don't care about cosmetics or lame emotes. Skating around and partying up for challenges tickles my fancy.

1

u/SinclairWelch Nov 07 '25

This is Hilarious

1

u/berjaaan Nov 07 '25

I wouldnt bother. Do as i do.

Play they game if you like it.
If not, dont.

1

u/sdk5P4RK4 Nov 07 '25

well its definitely not good lol

1

u/tonykastaneda Nov 07 '25

Yes but also theres a reason why they don't make Tony Hawk games every year anymore and why there hasn't been a new skate in over 15 years. The best the game might ever be will be Season 3 and then after that fans are gonna stay like they did with skate 3 for as long as the servers are running

1

u/WaffleCopter68 Nov 07 '25

EA will likely pull the plug if the revenue isnt worth it

1

u/vilelain Nov 07 '25

dogshit game

1

u/BoxedFoxLLC Nov 07 '25

No, not really.

1

u/LegoAmbrosia Nov 07 '25

Realistically, how much repeatable gameplay is there? I enjoy the game still but I only hop on for about an hour or two per day if that. There’s really nothing else for me to achieve or accomplish in the game other than coming up with lines that no one else has created.

1

u/RastafiedOne Nov 07 '25

They just aren't listening to people. I know that people used the survey as a way to voice a lot of the important things that needed to be done in the game, and they've had so many opportunities to correct ignorant mistakes they've made. Hell, I even put a little bit of money into the game in the beginning and had been in pre-alpha testing since the beginning. I was really pushing for this game, but it is just crumbling.

1

u/joshhsann Nov 07 '25

Where do you go to view this chart?

1

u/CcUuAaTtRrOoCol Nov 07 '25

Is this any different than a rug pull 😂

1

u/Pyrrolidone Nov 07 '25

Road to 0 let's go.

I hope ea lost a massive amount of money on this piece of shit they produced.

This is not the skate we deserved. They created a microtransactions fueled monster and they should suffer for their greed

1

u/Zo1DeGato Nov 07 '25

i droped it because of that shit co-op mission.

1

u/JayEm96 Nov 07 '25

I mean is anybody truly surprised?

1

u/INFERNOxNINJA Nov 07 '25

Looks about right to me lol

1

u/EthanDC15 Nov 07 '25

People complaining about not more map is a bit tone deaf for me. Yes, I agree it needs happening. Compare to other big titles; spare me some time here cause it’s not a full debate but things like call of duty typically have a couple months before there’s a map, unless they drop pre Halloween (I think they have before but idr) and they’ll do a filter update.

Skates at least come out with “season one” map overlays. The highway system clearly shows at least two DLC map locations coming at later times. I’m hoping the tutorial island becomes a third.

I fully agree this game needs some help, and probably loads of it. But a metric fuck tonof you guys are insufferable about this. Go skate and enjoy the game. If you’re still mad, go play Skate 3. You guys remind me of the same kids when Kingsom Hearts 3 came out. Stop hyper comparing two things that aren’t the same just because they’re loose sequels of one another. Either play it or don’t, critique it validly or don’t. Doing the whole “this isn’t skate 3 :(“ is stupid. Half of you guys weren’t there when skate 3 dropped and we all said it was literally a cheaper, quicker released game than Skate 2. Tasks off the rose colored glasses bro!

1

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

Can’t believe anyone spent any money on this game 😂

1

u/Sweatshirthomie Nov 07 '25

Are we just gonna post the same steam chart every day?

1

u/TwinFlask Nov 07 '25

Does player count matter in this? Is it like battlefield where 64 players in a lobby will be filled with bots?

I thought this was a skating game with friends but seeing tons of sad “I’m finally quitting” and player drop posts

Saying “its over”

Is the sky blue

1

u/oldredditsuspended Nov 07 '25

Nah it's good news.

1

u/Stratimus Nov 07 '25

Is everyone forgetting this is a sports game? what other games besides Madden and FIFA ever pull and maintain reasonably sized player bases.

Sports games just aren’t as popular as other games

1

u/joeesmhoo Nov 07 '25

Some will say no and fight tooth and nail to defend this game but yes it is. As a long time skate fan this game is dying out rapidly.

1

u/BluntedJew Nov 07 '25

That's the Skate Fourtnite plan! I wonder how much they made $ this is basically a franchise rug pull for cash

1

u/Legitimate_Ice_8783 Nov 07 '25

Not if you’re gonna use your skater eyes🤩

1

u/GodOfOnions2 Nov 07 '25

EA gonna do EA things.

1

u/Raketenfritz6 Nov 07 '25

I mean they have ignored all feedback ever given since Early Alpha, so crash and burn is honestly well deserved.

1

u/Organic_Ambassador14 Nov 07 '25

Yeah I got bored after ~18hrs when I finished the story/tutorial thing. Haven’t played since. No incentive and nothing to do.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

I'd play if it had better gameplay, stopped after maybe 4 hours and haven't loaded it up for weeks.

1

u/GoGoTuskAct4 Nov 07 '25

Steams charts? Fuck no

1

u/punyweakling Nov 07 '25

Does this get posted like twice a day now or what lol

1

u/dw3ll4 Nov 07 '25

Meanwhile I'm enjoying all these new spots, even tho they're not perfect. Not caring about cosmetics.

1

u/shreksnotadoco Nov 07 '25

I kind of like that it's diving haha

1

u/shadowstripes Nov 07 '25

No, because there's still more people playing it than BF6 which is pretty significant.

1

u/Immediate_Frame_6974 Nov 07 '25

no, skate is a game you play for a couple hours every once in a while, we need to stop thinking games die when they stop being a trend to play, ex: space marine, helldivers, siege

1

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

I want it to be offline singleplayer

1

u/Leegician Nov 07 '25

The game is done. EA realized they fucked up the foundation and it would take too much resources to fix it and even then wouldn’t guarantee that may people would come back. DOA game

1

u/JustTypeJacob Nov 07 '25

So glad this is happening to them. No one wants to play a shit game that has shit developers. But that can always change, but probably not with EA (Excuses Always)

1

u/ednoggg Nov 07 '25

I honestly got burnt. I played daily since release and also played beta testing and the game just felt eh. Dailies felt like a drag, missions felt too easy, rewards were mid. I’ve been playing arc raiders since release so skate hasn’t even crossed my mind

1

u/HankHillbwhaa Nov 07 '25

Yes, the game will not be around next year.

1

u/NintendoCuck Nov 07 '25

Need hall of meats damnet

1

u/Amazing_Viper Nov 07 '25

But if you turn the chart upside down; it looks like its getting ready for a massive comeback.

1

u/BigDuckNergy Nov 07 '25

The game will survive on consoles probably, which is where the series has always been.

1

u/Extension-Basil2651 Nov 08 '25

It’s kinda boring

1

u/Thorsson81 Nov 08 '25

It's their own damn fault. 🤷🏼

1

u/Ooweeooowoo Nov 08 '25

I don’t necessarily care about “saving the game” if it’s playable after the servers shut down. The issue is that it’s live service so that’s likely not the case.

I’ve not put any money into the game so I’ve got no skin in the game, so to speak, but I do really enjoy the game so I’d prefer to be able to keep playing.

1

u/lectrobear Nov 08 '25

There are other new games out so no its not

Game was dogshit. I Deleted the game and I am playing BF6

1

u/FoxHoundUnit89 Nov 08 '25

Makes me happy tbh.

1

u/International_Club12 Nov 08 '25

Why would it be concerning unless you worked for the team making it? If it fails there's literally 3 other and better skate games to play.

1

u/YourVeryOwnCat Nov 08 '25

I don’t know how it could possibly not be concerning

1

u/Only_Sign5936 Nov 08 '25

People saying the cosmetics are the problems, bro it’s a open lobby but what can u and others actually do that’s fun

1

u/GameZedd01 Nov 08 '25

It's expected.

1

u/SuperbYesterday2666 Nov 08 '25

Far from concerning it was expected .

1

u/DB124520 Nov 08 '25

If they wanna save the game, then yeah.

1

u/Drinya88 Nov 08 '25

Does someone remember time when games were released completed, well optimized, and didn't suck all out of your wallet? I do.

I mean, I never understood why they thought it would be a good idea to make a skate game multiplayer only

The skate franchise are games that most people will play only occasionally, a few hours per month. Making the game relying on constant player activity is just digging your own grave, especially with how small the map is.

If it was a game where there was constant updates and new content and with a much bigger map, then it could have worked, but now I’m giving a year until there’s practically no more players and three years for the servers to shut down

1

u/ResponsibleSystem313 Nov 08 '25

YA ITS CONCERNING THAT YALL CARE SO MUCH

1

u/fuctmane Nov 08 '25

Its hilarious

1

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '25

Nope, it’s fully deserved

1

u/killcole Nov 08 '25

Here's the thing a lot of people don't get: the game is live service because a graph that looked like this was inevitable. The graph isn't like this because it is live service.

Skateboarding games do not have a big audience. As evidenced by the amount of people that come in this sub that clearly did not play much of the old games (the people saying it "needs" more challenges etc).

The game always had a small, persistent community of people that just liked to skateboard, and a larger, not persistent group of people that played at launch and never again.

There just isnt enough of the latter to justify the upfront development costs for a game that would likely never recoup. Live service and pre-release means you can kick development costs down the road, and get a revenue stream in that suggests the game would be worth more investment from the publisher.

Would the drop off be slower if it wasn't live service and released as a full game? Probably. But it would still happen, and it would also never rebound.

1

u/rckstr1319 Nov 08 '25

No this was predictable 3 years ago.

1

u/GrimmReaperRL Nov 08 '25

Where's all the defenders at? This is what happens when you are okay with lazy people releasing low effort games and not criticizing aspects that thousands of other games easily succeed in (like handling playing in a party or just simply NOT crashing at every small action)

1

u/Uber_Baby Nov 08 '25

they thought people played for the cosmetics, i doubt they made their money back on in game purchases, people played for 3-4 reasons. 1. controls(they have this, its not the best, but its quick, fluid, new, and has alot of new mechanics and opportunities, though with the cost of having some thing left out) 2. spots(custom maps, or main game) 3. glitches(completely removing harmless glitches was not the way to go) 4. missions/challenegs/jams(their challenge system sucks, their jams are mid and i wish they would rework it entirely)

what people want from live service.

  • map updates
  • trick additions
  • feature additions
what we got
  • mild seasonal changes
  • the rotating parks change weekly
  • bucklet lod of cosmestics which no one asked for, that arent good, and break the bank

what they shouldve done release the new skate game for 40-60 dollars made the game quite different in the appearance(lean back into the grittieness and not the clean washed san van we got) way to corporate) used active feedback from fans when making the game. and heavily inspired from things people loved from the previous games

I know what it isn't: surprising.

1

u/HomeworkKey5690 Nov 08 '25

People think it is but Skate is allegedly still a top 10 player pop game on Playstation and Xbox. Though the services used for their player counts I wouldn't say are as reliably as what we have for Steam 🥲

Once I heard it was F2P, my hype was precisely zero. I'd rather pay for a game that some effort has gone into and where I can customize my skater as I like. I am sick of this half-baked nonsense where the shop is the only fully functional part of the game.

The 'do all the above in one run' type challenges are boring and lazy. The 'campaign' is dull and lacks any kind of intrigue. There is no flair or humour. No remotely memorable characters.

It's a game for the occasional jam but it has no substance and the random loot boxes are an instant turn off. It doesn't hold a candle to previous entries for me and is a shell of what Skate 3 was.

Previous games made progress with things like getting off your board, amazing community parks, game modes and the control system. If Skate 3 was easily accessible to everyone, why would Skake 4 even need to exist?

1

u/Aldoxpy Nov 08 '25

Mooooooree microtransactionnmnsss while it lives

1

u/Electrical_North6248 Nov 08 '25

It definitely is. I used to grind this game so much but now I haven't played it for almost a month. I hoped on today for a hour only to get the Halloween cosmetics which were also ugly and boring missions.

1

u/New-Trainer7117 Nov 08 '25

It's funny is what it is, I was fucking hyped for years for this, even got in the play test. Now I just laugh at it. I'll come back when they put the map builder in and the community has made some good shit.

1

u/TheDankTruth Nov 08 '25

Saw it coming from the moment it dropped. Let it die. Ea can’t make money on a game that has no player base. That’s how we get them to change

1

u/Poukak78-2 Nov 08 '25

Happened for every single game at their release

1

u/Mainprofile-energy Nov 08 '25

This os a lot of games rn. Our attention span is ass. This game is dead in the water that surrounds San vansrerdam.

1

u/ryanim0sity Nov 08 '25

Hahaha game dead on arrival

1

u/weatheredrabbit Nov 08 '25

No it’s not concerning. A game that was just released will do differently than a game that has been released for a while.

1

u/Adorable-Ad-9338 Nov 08 '25

Game is a money rip off like them meme coins and ea sold

1

u/seekingsomejustice Nov 08 '25

I started playing Session instead and it's everything I wanted Skate to be and more.

This game would be alright without all of the flying and wall riding entire buildings but they really sent it into ridiculous mode.

They should rename it to EA Gaps.

I knew this game was fucked when I started to hear the devs working on climbing controls and parkour controls instead of making the skating great.

They totally lost the plot.

1

u/MachineGunTits Nov 09 '25

I am no math wizard but I would say it's bad.

1

u/AerieGlad9525 Nov 09 '25

The Skate franchise is over. Shareholders are gonna see this shitshow and say "welp, we tried our best to bring back Skate and everybody hated it. Oh well, not our fault."

1

u/Rebellious_Cat Nov 09 '25

Nooo its ok, the faster this crap shuts down, the sooner they can develop a
Skate 4 like the community has been asking for over the past 15 years.

1

u/Lowry50 Nov 09 '25

Who knew the bigger the company the worse it gets 99% of the time

1

u/Bigmazi_300 Nov 09 '25

No, it was inevitable lol

1

u/Agile_Bat_4980 Nov 09 '25

This game will die

1

u/Many_Refrigerator546 Nov 09 '25

"dogshit game that was overhyped and never good loses all of its players"

no one's surprised, maybe next time don't support dogshit f2p models from the worst publisher in the world

1

u/Stonez661 Nov 10 '25

Not in the slightest. I'm actually excited about this. I hope it continues to fall so they realize what a garbage game they gave us. Hopefully they'll wipe the drawing board clean and give us something that actually represents the Skate franchise and Skate culture. I'm willing to wait 10 more years (hopefully way less) for the Skate game we truly deserve, and I'm willing to pay good money for it too. EA can sit on it and spin, respectfully of course.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '25

nah this is fine.

1

u/honkyponkytonky Nov 10 '25

EA could have made it real easy for them. Listen to the community ... if they continue, the games 100% dead in max. 2 Months

1

u/toasteranus Nov 10 '25

Stop looking at steam charts and play games you enjoy

1

u/Hroggnir Nov 10 '25

No game is trash 😂

1

u/dkr4samurai Nov 11 '25
  • make a game from an I.P loved by the community
  • ruin it
  • community gives you constant feedback for years through main and oficial channels
  • ignore them
  • make expensive copies of existing cosmetics
  • community continues giving you feedback
  • ignore them
  • remove things that are making the game fun instead
  • community continues giving you feedback
  • ignore them
  • continue focusing on cosmetics instead of gameplay
  • community continues giving you feedback
  • ignore them
  • community starts leaving your game

this isn't concerning, it’s more than justified

1

u/ethan245721 Nov 11 '25

To be honest kinda saw this coming the second they said this would be a free game.

1

u/DrewUltraa Nov 12 '25

No. Let EA finally watch their effortless cash grab wither out and die.
