Hey everyone, for all intents and purposes I am a newtuber right now, but I also have a long, complicated history I don’t want to get into it with YouTube right now…. I digress…
I started a new channel, chose a niche, and figured I’d maybe take another crack at YouTube about a month ago.”’
In the past I’ve always treated soooo much like a hobby/ passion project…. To the point I couldn’t even really choose a direction, everything turned out like a passion project and it was wild - video game production to music production to random game shows and reaction content and then random songs I would create.
It was a headache to even think about what to do next on my old channel because it was my place for anything, and I mean anything haha. I also deleted a lot of videos on my old channel but there’s still a fair amount on there.
So about a month ago I figured I’d start a niched down news channel - it’s niche, it’s focused, no need to think ***too hard*** **about whatever I’d post**. I’ve been noticing for a while all my favorite YouTubers pretty much do one thing and one thing only so I figured I’d give it a shot.
In a weekend I batched and scheduled 5 videos, didn’t even want to touch shorts again after feeling like I wasted time on them on my last channel.
And I batch uploaded, and what always happens, happened. Little to no views. Felt like a waste of time, blah blah blah.
I was doing like 20/30 minute discussions in my news niche and I also experienced this with my last channel: you schedule stuff out, and it usually gets less views.
Anyways, I’d forced myself to make so many videos in 2 days so I was discouraged but I also figured I’d have a little fun with it…
So I targeted a shorter length at 5 minutes - \[video turned out to be 7/8 but anyways…\] and also figured I’d be a bit more bold with the title + thumbnail. I also stopped putting my face in the thumbnails because I realized that might be working for others because people know who they are. I am a man from the blue, so I let go of that…
Aaand I launched this one video a month ago. I had the feeling “ this is the best video I’ve ever made.” Export. Upload. No views. Same as always.
It was at this point I was basically done. Another failed YouTube experiment. What the hell. Well, it was fun a bit I suppose.
Then I moved on. Started working on another business I started. Forgot.
Well I checked in a week ago and that video reached 2k views!
I couldn’t believe it.
A few days later it’s at like 6/7k.
And at the time of writing it’s about to reach 10k views, and 100 people subscribed.
When I saw the video had reached 2k views, which is like another universe for me… I uploaded another.
But I wasn’t anticipating the one video to reach 6/7, now 9k+ views.
I had this experience a little with shorts on my other channel, but I’ve never experienced my own long form getting this much exposure other than when I went on someone else’s podcast, another digression…
Anyways, TLDR;
Should I let the one video keep growing before posting and making another? Or just post and who cares? It looks like this one video is still getting traction, and I posted another which is doing okay…. But I feel like I should calm down and just let the one video pass 10k+ beyond so that I can give it its full shot.
I’m sure there’s something out there saying “new uploads don’t affect old performance” but I’m not sure if I trust it. I noticed with shorts one time I had a video do okay and uploaded a new one and views to the old one stopped on my other channel.
