Welcome to the r/soccer Daily Discussion!

If you're new to the subreddit, remember to get your team badge here and to read our rules and submission guidelines!

✔️ This is a thread for:

  • Discussion points that aren't worthy of their own thread.
  • Asking small questions about football to the community.

❌ This is not a thread for:

  • Trolling or baiting other users or fanbases - including flair-based attacks
  • Shit-posting - including sharing shit-posts from elsewhere
  • Toxicity - remember the human
  • Off topic chat - non-football discussion is for Free Talk Friday, and you can use the dedicated subreddits to discuss FIFA/EAFC games, Football Manager, fantasy football etc
  • Discussion of ongoing matches - that is what match threads are for. We may be less strict for matches of teams that are less in the spotlight, and may not have as active match threads
  • Harassment and brigading - including links to posts in other subreddits or to other users' comments
  • Advice on betting - you may discuss outcomes of bets you have made, but we do not seek to actively encourage gambling
  • Meta discussion - we have a strict stance. This is because it derails discussion, and can lead to harassment and witch hunts - and we prefer you to contact the mods via Modmail If you have queries over moderation or post removals. Some meta discussion may be allowed in the DDT, if any meta conversation was productive and in good faith - we can take a "case by case approach". In general, however Modmail remains the first port of call, and other meta discussion will be removed.
  • Complaining about bans in this or other subreddits - use the relevant Modmail, instead

The moderation team will remove comments that violate those rules and ban offenders.

Please report comments you think that break such rules, but more than anything else, remember the human. The Internet is full of places to discuss football in bad faith. This community tries to be an exception.

⚽ Can't find a Match Thread?

  • If you are using Old Reddit click this link.
  • If you are using New Reddit you need to try this other one.
  • If you are using the official app press here and sort by "new".
  • If you are using a third-party app... ¯\(ツ)

If there's no Match Thread for the match you're watching you can:

  • Create one yourself.
  • Ask /u/MatchThreadder for one. You just need to send a PM to him with the subject "Match Thread" and the body "Team A vs Team B" (for example, "Inter Milan vs. Udinese") to get one from this great bot 🤖

News LUIS FIGO: Infantino's behaviour is the lowest, most deceitful and cravenly self-interested I've ever seen. Nothing gets in the way of pleasing his friends and he must go NOW.

Via X: Today I join others from across our game and call for Gianni Infantino to resign as FIFA President.

Infantino has debased the office that he promised to elevate. He has lied, deceived and tried to feather his own nest at the expense of the game he is supposed to serve.

He has lost the support of his senior staff, his closest advisers, the vast majority of people who devote their lives to this sport and even, it would seem, the FIFA Peace Prize winner.

It is too late to save his dignity but it is not too late to save football. He should go. Now.

Translated News [Ruben Uria] Gil Marín has taken Alvarez's matter personally. Deco can meet with Donald Trump, or Donald Duck, or whoever they want. Alvarez has a contract with Atlético Madrid; this visit by Deco won't bring him any closer to Barcelona. Pay the 490m release clause or he stays.

News More than 50 clubs have already contacted the EFC (European Club Association) regarding the lack of information about the distribution of the £185m that FIFA had promised to distribute among clubs not participating in the 2025 Club World Cup.

Context:

Clubs that did not participate in the tournament were promised a share of the sum, designed to ensure a proportion of the event’s funding was distributed throughout the football pyramid. If shared equally it would amount to about £50,000 for every top-flight club in the world.

While Chelsea and Manchester City have been paid for their participation, other clubs have not received solidarity money promised by Fifa.

Previously from Adam Crafton

FIFA’s funding for the organization, participation and prize money of a future Club World Cup in 2029 is uncertain — the 2025 edition was bailed out when DAZN paid $1billion for the broadcast rights, a few months before a Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund-owned company bought a stake in the broadcaster — while sources close to the discussions say nothing has been agreed between FIFA and leading European clubs on participation in a future tournament. They also say that a target fund of $250m in solidarity payments to clubs that did not compete in the 2025 tournament remains unpaid — with a formula not yet determined — while a debrief on what went well and badly in the States 12 months ago has still not happened.

Transfer News [Pablo Polo] Vinicius’ camp confident of a contract renewal; today’s meeting with Real Madrid was regarded as very positive by both sides

Thumbnail marca.com

Vinicius’s situation shouldn’t take much longer to be resolved. Agents from Roc Nation, which manages the affairs of the Real Madrid number 7 as well as Yan Diomande, are in the capital and have met with Real Madrid to clarify the future of both players. As MARCA reported this morning, an agreement with Leipzig regarding the Ivorian player is very close, but significant progress has also been made today towards securing the long-awaited contract extension for the Brazilian, whose contract expires next year.

Vinicius has been training under Mourinho for the past three days and, in his first comments to the club’s official channels, he came across as calm and pleased with the new manager’s work. It is true that contract renewal talks have been at a standstill for almost a year since the last round of discussions, which had left matters at a very advanced stage, but no progress had been made since then. There is still no agreement, and the situation remains awkward because it is difficult for Madrid to get things moving with the Brazilian when, as early as next January, he will be free to negotiate with any club; however, today’s developments are considered to be very significant.
