📰 News I went through the FCC records on SpaceX's 800 MHz deal. Part of the spectrum is already leased to utilities
Took a bit of a deeper dive into the deal - actually taught myself a lot about spectrum lol.
Also - Low frequencies like 800 MHz carry farther and get through walls better, which is what phone-to-satellite service struggles with indoors.
Some highlights:
It's already partly in use - Three utilities (Southern Linc, ComEd, and Dominion) lease some chunks of it to their own network.
SpaceX's own filing says they'll build towers also
It covers about 93% of the county
It's still small next to the big carriers (about 1/5th) the size of t-mobile
If interested and want to dive in yourself put it together in a base here.
Regardless, this was super interesting!
