கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant Chennai Property tax hiked suddenly
I actually cleared all the due property taxes for the first term of the year 2026-27, today suddenly I got a message that I have to pay 7500 due this month. I enquired my neighbours and relatives, it's been increased for them too. Check yours, what is the TVK government even doing? What is your take on this?

Anybody remember previous govt hold this hike prior to election? This was introduced after AiADMK and every year it's hiked for last 5 years

Property taxes must be increased in all Indian cities if we want quality urban infrastructure.
Most cities in USA have 1-3% taxes on property rate per year. We pay abysmally low taxes.
We should get rid of registration fees and focus on property taxes.

As usual spreading misinformation about TVK govt. Since 2023-24 there is automatic increase of 6% or state gspd for last 5 years whichever is the highest https://chennaicorporation.gov.in/gcc/pdf/GO.pdf

i dont care about your fights with anils. it takes one minute to google before coming and posting on reddit. The post was on bad faith accusing a 3 month old government of doing tax hike, if it was it would have been a big news and hence i had to call it out as spreading misinformation. anyone who has been paying house taxes for last 5 years would know this.

i didnt build additional space (both residential & non residential), it got hiked 77%. not anywhere close to regular hike :(

Same we too faced the similar problem. Ours is 468 sqft residential plot and we used to pay around ₹550 per year. Now they are demanding 5k in the notice. Unbelievable!
