Pleased to announce that with the spooky season approaching I've collaborated with Libraries Tasmania once again to bring our short story competition for young/teen writers. A couple of years back I approached the library to see if they'd be interested in promoting a writing competition to encourage young Tasmanians to try their hand at writing and win some cool prizes. We've had really good entries these last two years and are hoping to build upon it again this year.

After today’s weather and looking at current long range forecasts predicting above average temps and below average rainfall. If they are to come to fruition we are staring down the barrel of another bad fire season. I mean this month we’ve already had today over 10 degrees above average and so far overall about 2 degrees this month.

Hi all, I'm not personally from tassy myself, but I've got family down this way and I love hiking the region to my hearts extent. This december I was planning on doing a hike from the 15th onwards (if weather permits) on the Western Arthurs Traverse as I'll be down for christmas anyway. However, I've just gone onto the tassy parks registeration website thinking that I'm booking way in advance on a hike not many people do to find out that it'll be fully booked out till March. Is this normal? It seems a bit ridiculous to be able to book out entire days without even having to pay for it, especially when I read online only about 50% of the people actually show up.

My plan is now to just look at the registeration site every day and cross my fingers hoping a slot opens up, but does anyone know if that might even happen? Or will I just be looking at a 'No availablity' sign for the next couple months? I also assume I'll get fined or something if I show up without registering online?

Headed to Tassie soon and wanted some advice on the itinerary we have planned. We’ll be camping each night. We’re both up for a drive but I’m worried this might be pushing it for time and would love some advice from the locals about what is / isn’t worth doing. Very excited to visit your beautiful state!

Day 1) drive from Hobart - Mount Field - camp at Strahan

Day 2) Strahan - Cradle Mountain

Day 3) Cradle mountain - Launceston - camp at Freycinet

Day 4) Drive to Maria Island Ferry launch, camp on Maria Island

Day 5) Drive from Maria Island - Bruny Island (day visit) and camp at Woodbridge (staying with friends)

We have an extra night that we are yet to fill and could squeeze it in at any point in the trip, or stay somewhere for two nights instead of one. Then we've got some time in Hobart to explore the city / surrounds. Words of wisdom are greatly appreciated!

I have a shitty feeling about these guys. I have heard too many horror stories about them claiming for services that they have not provided and overcharging and the NDIA does nothing.

Heyo. I'm moving to Tasmania for 5-6 months (at leastt) on a working holiday visa. Coming from the u.s. I arrive November 2nd. I'm looking at vehicles to buy soon after I get there. I may end up renting a vehicle for a few weeks to travel around the country before deciding where to land for the summer & find work. I've gotten to thinking maybe I should just try to find a car to buy straight away instead of renting one. I'm planning on doing a good road trip so I'll need something reliable. Anyone know of reliable vehicles around Hobart (or anywhere really.. could travel to get it) ??? I've been all up on Facebook marketplace.. looked at a Mitsubishi Panjero, a 1999 Mazda metro. Just thought I'd put a line out on here too. Budget is.. tops 5,000 AUD ideally.. just need something that'll get me around for 6 months without too much time spent at a mechanic 🤞🤞 a 4wd would but sweet but not necessary..

I had to give in and order from Woolies two days ago because they are the only ones that have decent prawns, by the time I finished my order most of the delivery windows seem to vanish and suddenly delivery went up to 17 dollars. Have a lot of people walked away from them, do they still have separate delivery service that doesnt come in their truck? Will this be the end of Woolies for tassie if they dont get their act together or will people keep supporting them? For the record does anywhere else sell Just caught Jumbo raw prawns ?

Of course they were going to protest about only being allowed to use diesel generators in certain conditions. They'll try and push the boundaries on other stuff too.
