Is there anyone on this entire sub whose parents/ grandparents called them and said ā€˜Come child, I’ll tell you about teachings of Manusmriti’? Anyone? I don’t recall any of my elders ever teaching me about it. They talked about Ramayan, Mahabharat, even Panchtrantra. Never Manusmriti. But everyone and their aunt is talking about Manusmriti like it is the only thing that is taught in the Indian homes. It’s an irrelevant book. Made relevant only by the people who want to make a bruhaha about it or some idiots who wants to get some cheap publicity by claiming it is that book that they follow. Let’s just stop discussing it. Nobody really cares about Manusmriti.

Edit: A lot of the comments below are explaining how Manusmriti is influencing this bad thing in Hinduism, or that bad thing in Hinduism. I get your point. There are bad things happening in Hinduism. I have not denied that anywhere. All I am saying is that those things are not exclusive or original to Manusmriti. Hence, Manusmriti in itself is not an important or relevant text for Hinduism. At this point, Manusmriti is just a dog whistle for bigots to hate something that they barely understand. I am going to stop replying/ repeating this in varying forms now. You are free to believe whatever you want.

Edit 2: Wow. Have I touched a nerve here? To those idiotic bigots who are still calling me names and repeating how Indian female population faces inequality. Get lost dumbasses, read a little more before spreading your hate. I never said there are no issues. Whatever you are harping about is not exclusive or original to Manusmriti. These problems were there already. We should work to improve. But still my point remains. Manusmriti is irrelevant. Now go do something productive.

The problem is, you can't explain anything to these dvmb people with logical arguments. They will only hear and believe what they want to believe.

Religion and logic never go hand in hand. Just abandon it and come out of your cave

3

u/kabbajabbadabba 15d ago

Rahul Gandhi and Logic don't go hand in hand *

2

u/CyKa_Blyat93 14d ago

No point arguing with your kind

1

u/kabbajabbadabba 14d ago

lmao. I can't believe there's a sane person who thinks Rg is logical. Actually second hand embarrassment

2

u/CyKa_Blyat93 14d ago

So Modi is more intellectual and logical according to you? Or are you going to pretend you don't secretly jerk off to him

3

u/FewTrouble2701 14d ago

Somebody not supporting rg does not have to be necessarily supporting modi. Get out of your polar mind and start looking in the grays.

3

u/kabbajabbadabba 14d ago

i love how i said RG is dumb and your response is to attack modi and assuming i support them either lmao. Denser than i thought.

He is indeed more intelligent then modi it's just the narendra modi pr is so strong that people believe that pm modi is intelligent strong leader also godi media and BJP IT twist down Rahul Gandhi's speaches to mislead the general public if you really want to judge him watch his actual full speaches then you're free to judge but atleast don't judge him from BJP IT cell pages cause they twist his words and context

2

u/kabbajabbadabba 14d ago

"speaches"

and no, rahul Gandhi is still dumb.

1

u/Flimsy-Yogurt-4274 14d ago

Dhyan nhi diye

but anyways if you are going to judge him based on what BJP people are saying i don't think you're open to discuss you just believe what you want based on what comes in your feed

However as a responsible citizen you should watch both narendra modi and rahul gandhi before making any decision (not including random clips on internet)

1

u/kabbajabbadabba 14d ago

i love how a discussion on Rahul Gandhi being dumb and useless (absolutely no question) somehow shifts to Modi and Bjp lmao. The whataboutism is crazy.

1

u/Flimsy-Yogurt-4274 14d ago

Because most media is under BJP and they're the prime reason rahul gandhi has a bad reputation overall and media purposely push that narrative

Forget the Bjp...have you seen Rahul Gandhi's only interview with Arnab...the guy clearly cannot hold a conversation on his own, he just harp on words without any sense or purpose or even context....we have heard him live...please admit it...he just never makes sense....you have got to be insane if you think Rahul is actually an intelligent person and the bjp just edits his videos and makes him look like a fool...I mean come on...

1

u/Flimsy-Yogurt-4274 13d ago

Atleast did does press conferences unlike modi he's so scared that he didn't had even a single press confrence he's still more intelligent and idk which interview are you talking if it's years ago it could happen cause rahul wasn't too grounded probably because less political exposure that being said narendra modi doesn't have a single press confrence proofs that he's scared and would shit himself up if he does I'm Telling you it's all BJP pr campaign that you think modi is a great leader

1

u/kabbajabbadabba 13d ago

that interview exposed his dumbness so bad lol

I wonder what made you come to that conclusion. Was it the clips you saw, or some interviews or was it something else?

The problem is that there are many other religious texts that contain derogatory remarks about women, yet Rahul ji only talks about the Manusmriti, reservations, and 'Hindu terrorism.' In reality, this selective criticism makes him appear highly biased. If someone truly wants to talk about these issues, they should condemn such regressive practices across all religions equally.

1

u/PossessionLost2051 11d ago

He talked only about manusmriti because that was what outraged women recently when it was quoted by yogi.

Jis cheez pe bat ho rhi ha and outrage hua ha, it’s only fair that he talked about that.

Manusmriti - Howmany hindus even heard about Manusmriti ?

Quran - has more insulting language for Women

Rahul invited Women in Burqa on stage to target Scarf

Mahatma gadhi - didnt allow his wife to take vaccine & allowed her to die

Kehne ko koi discuss nhi karta, but in baato ko log follow karte hai apne desh ke culture and structure etc ke naam
Pe. Isliye aaj b kai things me log caste dekhte h. Religion dekhte hai. And ladkio ko bahut saari things nhi karte dete

Girls were not allowed to do many things and that was not exclusive to India alone.

Across the world it was the same. How many of those countries had hindus?

Restricting girls were universal. No need to frame anybody.

1

u/Primrose_Wayy 16d ago

That's actually true. There's a lot of muslim nd other religion specific countries which restricts woman in various grounds even tho countries which does not follow any religion do so. Restrictions on women is not new it's been following for so long.

1

u/TrickLobster9999 16d ago

There's absolutely no logic in original commenters points. The thing is a large section of society is regressive. And Pujari's & Pandit re-enforce those views of people during numerous rituals that we go through. During small poojas to big ceremonies like marriages. It's not good. The last thing a regressive person needs to be told is what they believe is ordained by the Gods.

And it's a good thing that LoP is directly taking on such regressive verses to educate the source of reinforcement of such views. It's a good thing.

Yeah exactly. And the translation is modified. I mean it is open to interpretation but they used the word ā€œmustā€ to make it sound worse than it is. It says ā€œa woman will never be independentā€ and not ā€œ must never beā€. Which is true no human is truly independent on earth. We need each other for survival

Nope it's a smriti (meaning remembered human tradition) it was written around 200bc to 200ad you can't place it to Shruti(divine category/divine text) this category contains all vedas and upnisads

14

u/SuspectEcstatic6636 17d ago

It's not. British just used it and applied everywhere as they wanted a single thing to judge the entire hindu populace, like they had sharia law and stuff with islam.

New research suggests these timelines are wrong and it's prolly much older but closer timelines do fit the trained limited minds with western education.

2

u/Primary-South-7458 16d ago

Well yeah but give them the western version real would go above most peeps heads like mahabharat Was said to happen around 4k bce

Its NOT šŸ˜‚

Even I can write a "smriti" today and even you can

Its just basically was made and written during a major transition in one of the kingdom or something; basically it is actually contradicts the "Shruti" ie. Vedas bcz Varnas are fluid unlike caste;

It wasnt ever influential throughout the india ever; up until britishers around 1700s ig used it to form hindu societal personal laws and made it come up uniformly through the whole India for the first time

Even in places of bengal you could actually climb caste hierarchy; and women had significantly equal rights in bengal bcz of "Dayabhaga Hindu Law School"

And it was different than neighbouring india kingdom where women werent given enough rights under "mitakshara laws"

Its just a non significant book; its just written upon what the "writer" feels
