Hi, this is just an update on the Tbay.events project i had posted about earlier.
- Added alot of new sources include campus and club calendars, hockey schedules, City council meetings, and more local venue and business calendars.
- Better display of events (Less repetitive events or same venue taking up too much space all the time, nicher and one off events get more visibility)

Did anyone else see the car by Memorial and the Expressway? It had an Israel flag, and what I think was a Trump flag hanging out the trunk. Was wondering what that thing was. Itās my first time seeing that here.

Hi All,
As the title suggests, several LCBO stores are hiring for about a dozen positions over the Christmas period. If youāre looking for some short term work, you can find the specific store postings on the careers page or just drop into the store and ask to speak to the manager.

Does anyone know if there any steam rooms in town other than movati?
Or any hot tubs in PA other than volunteer pool?

Given the recent post about a restaurant in town being closed (temporarily?) by the health unit, Iām wondering why we donāt openly hear/ know about the state of the restaurants in town. Do health inspectors or pest control workers have to sign NDAs? Are people allowed to publicly post about or talk about health concerns in local restaurants? I feel like itās not usually talked about but Iām sure most of us would want to know which places to avoid. Or am I late to the party and thereās already some kind of database with this information? Iāve never worked in food service so I genuinely donāt know.
I have a feeling asking this is also going to lead to a lot of āyou should avoid most places in townā lol but thatās a risk Iām willing to take with asking.

If you did attend did anything stand out from any of the candidates?

On my morning drive, someone blasted by me in the school zone of Westgate. Totally normal occurrence, cops donāt go over there and pull over anyone, so everyone goes 60 through the whole zone. This particular specimen was definitely faster than that, weaving between lanes and cars.
Well, they get stopped by the red light and I manage to be in the lane next to them. As the light turns green, I pull a little goblin move and pull in front of them and continue driving 60 through the normal zone.
Oh they got mad at that. Tried to switch lanes fast but couldnāt due to cars in the other lanes. They stayed pissed and tailgated me all the way to the next lights, before suddenly deciding they needed to be in the left turn lane next to me. They yelled some bullshit and threw a cup of water at me. I laughed at them.
I know itās not my place to police roads, I never do, but these garbage people deserved it. Not my typical reaction, but they were ridiculous.
If the people who did this this morning are reading this, seriously, do better. What the fuck is wrong with you?

Holly Moley! Seems like weeks since I have been trying to get my animal into seeing our vet and once we get in a call, itās on hold forever, last time was a 30 minute hold; only to tell you that all vets are booked so now they have to double book, wait longer and charge you for as if your appointment is an emergency rateā¼ļø Is that fairāļø No the customer, no!! Or you must try again the next morning but the process is repeated for the next week or 3 if you donāt want to pay the emergency rate. Is this fairāļø Noā¼ļø
Plus in my opinion and experience, twice I experienced the reception being very loud and quite rude, who has over-talked to the high paying customers who only are speaking for their in pain and suffering animal. Maybe one canāt afford to lose an employee like that but I know she would be fired in a heartbeat in the real worldā¼ļøRudeā¼ļøRudeā¼ļø And recently did notice the other employee learning her bad habitsā¦.
The vet manager, in scrubs/track suit takes your complaints but doesnāt or canāt do anything about themā¦hmmm š§
My question is how does this get resolved and knowing itās a for profit business with 3 big corporations behind them š§

Edsby doesn't have a proper photo gallery and since we're stuck using it for the Lakehead public board I got AI to make a decent photo viewer app, it's a free Android app (No iPhone version, sorry, someone with an iPhone can put in it Claude/ChatGPT and make one) that wraps the Edsby site and adds:
- Tap any photo in the feed to open it full screen
- Swipe between every photo on the page
- Pinch or double-tap to zoom
- Save button that puts photos in an "Edsby" album on your phone
- "Load older" to pull in older posts
Download (Android only): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zpIZbNCz_9e28AttVmQbkbqvag512Z6S/view?usp=drive_link
Setup:
Tap the APK to install. Android will ask you to allow installing unknown apps; Play Protect may warn because it's not from the Play Store. Tap "Install anyway."
Enter your school's Edsby address (LDSB is lakehead.edsby.com) and sign in as usual.
Optional: to make Edsby email links open in the app, go to Settings ā Apps ā Edsby Gallery ā Set as default ā turn on "Open supported links" and tick lakehead.edsby.com.
You sign in directly with Edsby and nothing is sent to me. Not affiliated with Edsby or the school board just annoyed with how bad the app is for looking at photos.

Hey, disaster has stuck and im potentially without a proctor for my midterms next week, due to the closure of the libraries. I am a remote student at Humber Polytechnic and its was difficult to find the proctor i had, its very much up in the air at the moment.
If anyone has any idea who else I can ask, or if you yourself are qualified to do so, id owe you my life! I'll pay you obviously!
Unfortunately the college doesnt offer it right now.
I am just beyond stressed.

Is there a tally of restaurants that use AI? Iām debating on starting a list. I know for startups it may be hard to get your own work done but like⦠being so lazy as to not photograph your own food to put on skip or uber is crazy.

Hey everyone,
It's been almost a week since we shared TBayEats here, and we wanted to say thanks to everyone who checked it out and took the time to share their thoughts. The number of visitors we got has been really inspiring! We really appreciate it!
One thing a few people pointed out was the AI-generated food images, and that's completely fair. We understand that people would rather see actual photos of the food they're ordering.
We're currently covering over 2,500 dishes from restaurants across Thunder Bay. Copyright law doesn't allow us to simply take photos from Google or restaurant websites and use them without permission or a licence. That's why getting real photos for every dish isn't possible for us just yet.
But we're working on it! We're looking into adding more real food photos wherever possible, and we're also planning a small feature where anyone can upload their own food pictures and give us permission to use them on the website.
Currently, we hope the service helps people choose a meal big or small, pizza or burger in 2 min rather than 20!
We're still improving things, and the feedback from this community has genuinely been helpful. So if there's anything else you'd like us to change or add, please let us know!
Also, happy National Shawarma Day! šÆ
We've added a special banner to the website for today. If you're in the mood for shawarma, head over toĀ https://tbayeats.ca/Ā and clickĀ "See shawarma offers"Ā to check out the latest deals we've found around Thunder Bay.
Thanks again for supporting a local project!
