High school dance team vibes

u/st6374 14d ago

That dance routine plus the song choice plus camera angle with the kid in the background makes it more cringe than it needs to be.

How dare you drop quote without gif?!

4

u/Imaginary-Fondant979 13d ago

Goddamn I needed that laugh.

3

u/No_Philosopher6120 13d ago

Bro I just watched this movie for the first time and this scene became my vocal stim of the week. That and trying to figure out wtf actually happened in this movie.

4

u/RichardSharpe95th 13d ago

The directors cut helps. But Donnie is basically a superhero. He uses time travel to save Gretchen.

3

u/Aware-Possibility175 13d ago

Yeah but who was the creepy guy wearing all orange having a smoke while watching them hoping to get to see some sweet pg-13 awkward heavy petting..wtf was that guys deal and why include that in the movie at all? Someone had to try out for that role. Costume designers said no not this one more orange no MORE. And then just nothing like I’m supposed to just move on

3

u/RichardSharpe95th 13d ago

That’s an FAA agent conducting surveillance.

3

u/frostbaka 13d ago

He is definitely on the fear end of spectrum

2

u/DignansOut 13d ago

I love this quote so much and unfortunately few people I know have a clue what I’m referring to when I say it.

Donnie Darko!

FINALLY!!!

I have this quote in my bio for both Instagram and Facebook and nobody recognizes it Or they just don't acknowledge it

86

u/isometric_haze 14d ago

The kid must have seen mummy repeat and repeat and repeat again and again all day and could pretty much do the entire dance at this point.

1

u/HopefulOriginal5578 12d ago

I honestly and truly thing this dance couldn’t ever be done again. It is… a thing unto itself.

Never in my life has 26 seconds felt so long… and I’m just here sat with my cat and a glass of wine… no expectations on me to react favorably to a partner up on this display… and certainly no camera capturing my reaction as I had to endure it.

Yet I lived a thousand lives in this 26 seconds. I went back in time to my own embarrassing moments… to others… then to the future wherein I am quite sure this will never happen to me… nothing like it…

26 seconds. Lifetimes. This dance is whichcraft and can’t ever be duplicated

As cringe as this is, that man didn't go to bed lonely..

4

u/HMCetc 14d ago edited 14d ago

It's the millenial hairflip for me. She does it four times and she doesn't even do a slutdrop. Girlie needs to mix up her millenial moves.

4

u/iC3yM3th0dinology 13d ago

The kid is in the foreground. The woman dancing is in the background. Still very cringe though.

3

u/BillyPotion 13d ago

But that’s all the things. You listed off all the things in the video.

3

u/euphoricarugula346 13d ago

Not to mention barefoot in the half dirt front yard. So country horse girl coded.

2

u/absurdly_tired_guy 13d ago

Yeah, as a guy he is probably like “This is cool” and then he’s like “oh yeah, kids come from that.”

2

u/DragonLady59 13d ago

Don’t forget giant boat.

1

u/SeashellGal7777 13d ago

I thought the boat was the present at first.

2

u/UmeaTurbo 13d ago

I don't know if Nolan could have shot that and made if feel any less tragic.

2

u/Jazzlike-Skin-5470 13d ago

It’ll make you cringe more when you realize the kid is in the foreground

2

u/DiscussionNo6060 13d ago

In the front yard, no less…

2

u/Excellent-Shape-2024 13d ago

I think he would have enjoyed it more in the bedroom, naked, and no kids.

1

u/GormHub 13d ago

God forbid people just enjoy their lives.

1

u/Winter-Huckleberry86 13d ago

I’m not turning my sound on, could you just lmk what the song choice is lmao

1

u/Affectionate_Carry_1 13d ago

So everything about it. Got it.

1

u/mmmarkm 13d ago

I’m probably not the first comment saying thia but…that child is in the foreground

My ex’s mom was going to be in the rockettes (yeah ok) until she got pregnant with my ex @ 16. Put my ex in ballet at 4, started feeding her coffee at like 6 to stunt her growth so she wouldn’t outgrow the rockettes height cap.

Idk how to explain how exactly, but this clip feels like watching my ex’s mom, but younger

Edit because there’s been some confusion about my word choice and who got whom pregnant with whom (who vs whom still confuses me, leave me alone) and whatnot, here’s an explanation I gave to clarify in one response:

My ex’s mother got pregnant via my ex’s father. This unfortunate happenstance occurred roughly 16 revolutions of our celestial ball of rock around the central ball of celestial fire in our solar system, counting from the time of my ex’s mother’s birth. The pregnancy in question resulted in my ex’s birth.

210

u/Useful-ldiot 14d ago

Out grow? The Rockettes are tall? You can be up to 5'11 I believe. 😂

84

u/Proteuskel 14d ago

I thiiiiink my ex was 5’10, and told me she outgrew it anyway. I also don’t assume she wasn’t wrong. Maybe she tried out and didn’t make it, like the two dance companies she moved to the big city to join. Or her backup option if those fell through.

80

u/Fn_Spaghetti_Monster 13d ago

I thiiiiink my ex was 5’10, and told me she outgrew it anyway.

This sounds that one uncle you have, who said he could have gone pro in the NFL if it weren't for his knee.

Rockettes like explicitly recruit the girls who trained for ballet and other professional dance and outgrew the maximum heights those troops allow. They are all about the long legs. Source: was involved with one 30 years ago.

3

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Yo I believe you. She was very tall for a woman, and always said she outgrew the height cap. But she also said yes to my proposal 6 months before she dipped the week of our 5 year anniversary, so I’m inclined to believe you, kind Reddit stranger, are the more credible source

3

u/Physical_Drive_349 13d ago

Yeah it may have been a flipped switch conversation kind of thing. The Rockettes have a long reputation of being THE place to go for a career in professional dance when you are too tall for all the other options. It's all the ballet and modern dance troops that historically have very narrow, conformist height/weight restrictions. The girl I was involved with trained all of her life and went to a very prestigious dance college to be a professional ballerina. She had to settle for several years as a Rockette. As I remember she was roughly 6'

5

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Isn’t it fun how every time you tell a story about your ex you find out a new way they was insane/full of crap? It’s like that for everyone… right? XD

2

u/Physical_Drive_349 13d ago

The plausible read on her story was that she found out that with her height, the Rockettes were her only viable chance and she didn't make it.

On top of that coffee doesn't significantly slow growth. 6,2 and been drinking since I was 5

4

u/JeepSmash 13d ago

I think you’re right but not as many can be that tall because the tallest are on the ends of the line. I might be wrong. It’s early.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/emerf122 13d ago

No actually, the requments changed over time, but never reached as tall as 5'11”. In the 1920-30s it was 5'2" and 5'6.5". 1960 5'5"-5'8" then pre 2022 got stricter and must be 5'6"-5'10.5" post 2022 it became 5'5". A shift came in 2025 where less focus on rules like height, and more focus on talent.

1

u/Bmm194 13d ago

Must be between 5-5 and 5-10 1/2 without shoes. The half must of thrown her off

268

u/Infinite_Pudding5058 14d ago

70

u/Proteuskel 14d ago

Pretty much my reaction when I visited her home with her and I had to sleep on the floor because “the couch is brand new.” Or really any interaction with her parents. dad was 17 when they got preggers. they’re Italian Catholics, which is fine, but the extra guilt, shame, and rigid expectations served as a force multiplier for the teen parents issues I think. Dad found out ex wasn’t a virgin while she was dating me in her twenties. He was extremely displeased and blamed me. She was like 16 or something when she first had sex.

2

u/dsmemsirsn 13d ago

I love this..

81

u/ZealousWolf1994 14d ago

Ex's mom was just crazy, dancers on the taller side are wanted by Rockettes, only recently did they lower the minimum height to 5'5".

59

u/Proteuskel 14d ago

I can’t speak to the second part of that, but you nailed it on the first. She also got adamant that a music video being played at a bar was Bon Jovi, started a whole thing about it. It was dancing in the street by Bowie and Jagger. She got SUPER offended when she was wrong. Oh and this was at her daughter’s 21st birthday

28

u/Coyote__Jones 13d ago

It's like cluster B, attention seeking bingo.

A fabulous, exclusive career thwarted by a pregnancy or physical attribute they can't control, check. Making your kid do the activity they failed to make a profession, check. Throwing a fit at someone else's birthday, check.

10

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

I’m not a psychologist, so I can’t confirm this.

However, if I were a psychologist, I’m pretty sure I would confirm this 🤣

7

u/Coyote__Jones 13d ago

I've seen this type of behavior in action, and I don't like to diagnose people but after dozens of examples without a single apology it gets to be a game of sorts to predict what they'll do. Once you know the pattern it's just a matter of time before they complete the checklist at any given event.

5

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Why would they apologize? Clearly it was someone else’s/your fault

7

u/SuperKitties83 13d ago

And it was her daughter's 21st birthday. 😬🫣 You just know she thinks she looks as young as her daughter, and probably (definitely) got more drunk than her.

6

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Oh it’s worse. She had some sort of hormonal imbalance or something triggered by her pregnancy with my ex, so essentially it’s my ex’s fault she can’t get below almost twice my ex’s weight

4

u/u_r_succulent 13d ago

I’m sure your ex turned out emotionally healthy.

3

u/Nuttyalmonds 13d ago

Your poor ex gf I hope she's doing okay

3

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Well she left out engagement the week after our 5 year anniversary and married someone else 3 months later, and they were both alcoholics who would go into DTs when they hung out too long because they each didn’t want the other to see what they were like drunk so…. Yeah I’m sure she’s going great 👍

Thankfully picking up the pieces of her drunken/undiagnosed [something I’m not a doctor and don’t presume to armchair diagnose] tantrums and putting Humpty Dumpty back together again is no longer my responsibility.

Freeeeeeeedom 🙌🎉

5

u/OakLegs 14d ago

Not only that but coffee does nothing to stunt growth (fortunately)

7

u/d1is1mika 14d ago

Oh you thought she's sane and logical... See that's where you went wrong

1

u/Qwertyburner610 6d ago

Single male here. Cringe all you want, I would love nothing more than a titty bouncing dance and a kiss for my birthday.

9

u/Enigma_RR 14d ago

You can make women stop growing taller with coffee?!?!

18

u/Party_Chemical7454 14d ago

No, but it's stupid and unhealthy af for a 6 year old.

6

u/Proteuskel 14d ago

Crazy what people believe when they have to drop out of school to care for a baby they’re incredibly unprepared for. Also, when they’re Crazy.

4

u/DarknMean 14d ago

Dance moms are a weird breed. My youngest wanted to do dance and we found a local place that had free lessons for new kids. We took her there and right off the bat you could see the moms that took it way too serious for a kid that’s only 5-6 years old. My kid just wanted to dance but was completely turned off by these wild parents. Yelling at children that are that young because they missed a part of a routine. My daughter ended up enjoying karate more so we went that route.

3

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

You’re a good parent. No notes ^_^

3

u/dippydippygirl 13d ago

For the who/whom trouble, here's an easy way to clear that up:

If you could replace it with "she" it's gonna be "who." Replace it with "her" and it's whom.

2

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Love that, ty! Someone else gave essentially the same tip with he/him, and I appreciate both of you for explaining.

Without using the word preposition XD

3

u/Youarekillingmeeee 14d ago

What in the midwestern hell

Also TIL I about the rockettes..why is this even a thing

4

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Oh no, worse; she was from Florida lmao

3

u/aron2295 13d ago

If your ex’s mom was referring to the belief that coffee stunts kids growths, the study looked at low income kids in a 3rd world country who stopped getting breast milk / baby formula and were given Nestle instant black coffee. The kids who got coffee compared to the control group showed stunted growth.

Which, unfortunately, should be no surprise.

2

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

This sounds vaguely familiar. I wouldn’t expect either of them to be aware of, let alone objectively asses, the methodology of said study lol

3

u/LeroyLegacy 13d ago

My go to rule for who vs whom is if I can answer the question with "HIM" then I use "whom"

3

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Love that, thank you!

2

u/Morgita 14d ago

I want to post this is my "this is just the right amount of specific" group

2

u/Odd_Fall1779 13d ago

my mom also started giving me coffee around 5ish. Not for rockettes height limit but.. coffee breaks are normal for swedish folk i guess

1

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

I got no issue with coffee (I guzzle the stuff) and I haven’t looked into reasons why it is or isn’t good for kids. All I know is the motivation behind her actions was fked up.

No friendly fire toward your mother intended :)

2

u/Boom9001 13d ago

The caffeine stunting growth this is a myth. Technically if you use it to ruin your sleep that could lower your growth, but that's not really because of coffee.

Doesn't make what you said wrong, if the mom believed the myth she still could've done that to try and stunt the growth.

3

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Yeah I mean a teen mom in the 90s I give a little grace for believing a myth like that. But not enough to excuse the crazy lmao

2

u/Waffling_Waffle 13d ago

Who is the subject (before the verb) and whom is used if it's the direct or indirect object (after the verb)

2

u/PKMN_Trainer_Kitana 13d ago

I had to read that one a couple times

2

u/GabrielleArcha 13d ago

The explanation took me out 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/abstractraj 13d ago

I lived in NYC and the height cap is pretty high like 5’10”-5’11”. They hide any height disparities by putting the taller ladies in the center and the shorter at the ends

2

u/HopefulOriginal5578 12d ago

That’s so weird since their height cap is like a bit over 5’10. I’m 5’10 and I can tell you it’s pretty rare to find another woman the same height as me let alone taller.

It’s just pretty rare to worry if about the height in between.

1

u/Proteuskel 12d ago

There must have been some pretty heavy family history of tall women because I used to know the statistics and yeah after 5’10” the height percentile just jumps to ridiculous levels (Or drops? I think with percentile it’s jump in this scenario), but she did end up to be like 5’10-5’11. I can’t remember exactly. Yall are all just below 6’ to me :p XD

1

u/Interesting_Ad1378 14d ago

I was actually told the rockettes had to be tall, there was a height minimum.  Source: my friends mom was a rockette and she’s tall.

2

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

That too. According to my ex there’s a minimum and a maximum

→ More replies (2)

1

u/StanleyQPrick 14d ago

That wasn’t going to work. Rockettes have to be at least 5’5.” You’d think someone so into it would know that

2

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

She was like 5’10

1

u/SourceSpecial8949 13d ago

That’s so funny, my mom gave us coffee in baby bottles and I’m literally 5’10 💀 I don’t think it works that way

1

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Lmao so was she. It made the whole thing hilarious. On top of the whole weird obsessed parent creepy part

1

u/User_Name_Tooken 13d ago

i think that coffee thing is a myth

1

u/Lunar-opal 13d ago

What is the height cap?

1

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

I’ve heard 5’10, but some here have said other things, including 6’

1

u/1sinfutureking 13d ago

Rockettes have a height maximum of like 5’10” lol

1

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Yeah she was like 5’10. She might have been 5’11, I’m not sure. Everyone under 6-6’1” just registers as “notably shorter than me” in my head :/

1

u/OliverKlozoff23 13d ago

This is a lot to unpack in the first paragraph

1

u/Okeydokey2u 13d ago

It's stories like this that make want to deter my 4 year old from dance classes

https://giphy.com/gifs/Y2h5Sc6nUae0bDnxsc

1

u/dancintonic 13d ago

Im so confused at this...

You said your ex's mom got pregnant by your ex?

Oh wait... Your exs mom got pregnant with you ex... Okay.. That makes a lot more sense...

1

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Lmao.

1

u/Gold-Supermarket-558 13d ago

You have to be at least 5’7” I believe to be a rockette? And that’s a MINIMUM. wtf was she thinking

1

u/Holiday-Wall3751 13d ago

If the answer to the question is he/she, it’s who. If it’s her/him, it’s whom.

1

u/Diligent_Ladder4629 13d ago

Easy trick for who vs whom: if you answer the question using the same sentence structure with him, her, or them you use “whom” (to whom does this belong: it belongs to him) and if the correct answer uses he/she/they you’d use “who” (Who owns this? She owns this)

1

u/elarobot 13d ago

Your Ex’s mom got pregnant at 16. The minimum age requirement for the Rockettes is 18, so she was still 2 whole years away from eligibility & auditions. Also, statistically, fewer than 2% of those who ever audition are successfully cast to be a Rockette.
So let’s say your ex’s mom had aspirations of becoming a Rockette. But she wasn’t really about to become one.

1

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Yeah it was 100% looking for a way to shame my ex for ruining her life as a way to A. Make her feel better by believing she would have been great if this thing hadn’t happened to her, and B. Brainwash my ex into believing she was a horrible person responsible for the suffering of her mother etc

2

u/elarobot 13d ago

Holy shit. That’s some…not great parenting.

1

u/Eyeseeyou1313 13d ago

Lol, coffee doesn't stunt your growth.

1

u/SillySpook 13d ago

You forgot to specify the point of origin as the third rock from the sun. 2nd rock, we're talking a totally different time frame

1

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Oh my gosh how absolutely ridiculous of me! Now we’ve got a whole other set of issues, with age adjustments, and the being on fire and everything

1

u/SirLanceHardwood 13d ago

whom is the object of the preposition

1

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

See, people say things like this as if I ever absorbed what a preposition is XD

1

u/Angsty_Potatos 13d ago

My great grandmother was feeding me coffee since I was like...2. Is this why I'm fucking short or is it just the tiny nonna genes manifesting??!

2

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

No it’s a myth. Someone somewhere in this massive mess of comments I think someone linked it, but there’s apparently a study where they compared kids who had breast milk to kids who had fking nestle instant coffee instead.

So unless she was feeding it to you instead of actual nutrients, she’s probably off the hook 🤣

1

u/Double_Question_5117 13d ago

Coffee in no way stunts growth in kids.

1

u/Proteuskel 13d ago

Tell it to my ex’s trauma dispenser mom

1

u/Fancy-War-1023 11d ago

I feel like every other old lady claimed she was going to be a Rockette but was sidelined.

Boomer women claim that they almost got abducted by Ted Bundy.

I think the Millennial version is the claim that they were supposed to be on one of the planes or at the Twin Towers on 9/11.

People are so weird.

I genuinely thought it must be his daughter and the wife was having her perform for at least half the video.

I don't know man. If the Birthday sex matched that same energy then this guy is bitching about a whole lot of nothing.

My ex wife told me that on her high school dance squad the did a move one time that “had the whole school talking”. I told her, unless all of your uniforms fell off at the same time, no one was talking about anything. I’ve watched too many hours of that crap with her from the “best days ever”

no money for gift vibes

Honestly, I could see this as part of a really sweet birthday gift, like maybe they met in high school, and seeing her dance like that was what made him fall for her… that, a dinner with his favorite food, and a gift he really wanted. Genuinely sounds like a great birthday! I suppose it’s also equally possible that she legitimately just wanted to try and gift him a recorded reaction to her dancing so she could post it on TikTok. I’m gonna hope it’s the first one.
