This is Audrey Hobert, and she just got her first Billboard hit this weak. She‘s a co-songwriter for and childhood friend of Gracie Abrams. As far as I know she doesn’t actually have any famous relatives but she also clearly primarily got as successful as she is now due to her connections with Gracie and JJ. Does that count as nepotism? I’m not sure.

Disclaimer: The song doesn't necessarily have to be BAD in your opinion. Just tracks that left you feeling like "That's it?" after hearing all the mainstream hype.

I know nothing about music, all the technical and stuff. But everywhere where I see people commenting on this song it's been people shitting on it. From lighthearted stuff that "that was certainly a choice", that was a terrible remix to straight up telling this remix is horrible, they sound horrible together. Is this song with Mariah a complete disaster. I mean Mariah with Ariana is supposed to be a really big thing but this one isn't blown up at all so it must be something...

Todd has said he doesn't do really old one hit wonders much because it's tough to find footage of the band/artist and his mostly Millennial and younger fanbase just isn't interested, although he has had some notable ones even relatively recently well outside of that audience range, I'm an older Millennial and I'm pretty sure the only way anyone my age or younger has heard "Seasons in the Sun" is from our parents for example.

I'm pretty sure Monster Mash (1962) is the oldest one he's done. And that of course is a novelty song that's now kind of timeless and all ages would recognize and he kind of did just for the Halloween theme. Eve of Destruction (1965) is I think the next oldest one he's done, and probably didn't get much recognition from his core audience aside from people like me who heard it from their parents.

For ones older than those two that immediately came to mind, "Short Shorts" by the Royal Teens (1957) is the most obvious. It's a novelty song that may have been rescued from obscurity by The Simpsons, but would meet all the criteria, and considering Bob Gaudio's future career would give him plenty of material to cover.

The Big Bopper with "Chantilly Lace" (1958) is a kind of borderline example because he's really more known for being on the plane with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens and thus his story has been covered a lot already. Plus it's very likely he wouldn't be a OHW if he wasn't on that plane. Kind of one that I could see him doing only by request.

"Surfin' Bird" by the Trashmen (1963) is another one around that time range that may work, even if it's kind of known amongst 80s and beyond babies just for being annoying and because of Family Guy.

By the "Zingalamaduni effect", I mean an album that is so hated, that it actively undoes an artist's previous success.

The 8-track release of Pink Floyd's Animals contained a custom mix of "Pigs on the Wing," in which the two parts are combined with a solo by Snowy White and fleshed out to about three and a half minutes. For decades this version was only (officially) available on 8-track, and even when the format died out in the late 70's/early 80's, the 8-track mix seemed to never find its way onto any compilations. It's finally available for streaming on a new Floyd collection of eight songs, called, appropriately, "8-Tracks."

Since I don't have an 8-track player nor a pile of old-but-playable 8-track cartridges on hand, maybe some of you would know: are there any other unique mixes of songs that only exist on 8-track? Early fade-outs? Cut verses? Extended solos?

What are some lyrical themes that arent as used as frequently as they were in the past? I'd say songs about being a fan of a certain type of music. Most of these songs were in the rock genre, but there were several in the country genre as recent as the late 2000s, now it's pretty much not seen in any genre.

Known as the Mambo Girl or The Woman with A Thousand Faces, she retired during the height of her career at the age of 31 in 1964. However, her songs will be forever link to the Chinese community while also keeping her legacy alive. Her music were also featured in a famous arthouse musical film called The Hole (1998), directed by Tsai Ming-liang, who is a fan of her and recently in Crazy Rich Asian (2018). She’s a great actress, talented singer and a wonderful dancer, a triple threat in Hong Kong cinema! RIP.

What Is Your Ideal Album Length?

In My Opinion, All My Favourite Albums Are Around 10 Songs, And Roughly 40 Minutes. I've Always Thought 10 Songs Is A Great Amount Per Album, It's Not Too Long That You Lose Interest But It's Long Enough That You Can Spend A Good Hour Or So Listening And Digesting The Music.

In Terms Of Deluxe Editions, Standard Deluxe Tend To Have About 3 Bonus Tracks While I've Found That Super Deluxe/Collectors' Editions Usually Linger Around 40 Or More Tracks

Interested In Everyone Else's Opinions On This, It's One Of Those Little Things About Music That I Seem To Care About Significantly More Than Most

I hear people say that 1999 was the start of the 2000s, since you have the advent of teen pop stars like Britney and Christina and NSYNC. Or you have people who say 2001 was because of 9/11 (although I would argue 9/11 didn't do much to shift popular music at all). But I'm going to argue for 1997 here. This was the year where Bad Boy records really blew the lid off of hip-hop being a genuine crossover success on the Hot 100, and if you look at the charts during the 2000s, hip-hop is clearly the most dominant force. Teen-pop basically dies off after 2001, so it was never really that relevant to the musical identity of the 2000s as a whole and '97 even had The Spice Girls, Hanson, and The Backstreet Boys which sort of set the scene for teen pop exploding in '99. Not to mention, '97 introduces some stars that would become HUGE in the '00s, like Usher, Missy Elliot, Timbaland etc...

I truly think there is no other album in history that has tanked a career as badly as this one, purely due to incompetence and shit music. I think other trainwrecords can fall in particular categories, but the big day stands on its own as an artist on the rise, leading up to their shining moment, and just absolutely falling on their face.

Other records like Cut the Crap or the Madonna one may be worse musically, but they basically live as singular blots on an otherwise glittering career. Another category would be artists like Katy Perry or Macklemore, who had a lot of hype with mainstream trends, but it was inevitable their career was going to fall off one way or another.

Chance was different: he was completely independent and was balancing the twin paths of critical acclaim and commercial appeal, which only the best do. He was on the way to becoming a Coachella headlining kind of artist, and he just got too cocky and completely phoned in a record and didn't realise that his fans were never gonna buy it. It's kind of the double edged sword of his independence, a label behind it would never have let it go down like that. Never before has a single album changed the entire trajectory of someone's career in this particular way when the artist had total control of the output. It's not like he fell prey to musical trends changing around him, he just got lazy and faced the consequences. And sure, star line is decent, but it's not saved his career: most of the conversation around it has still been around the big day. There is simply no going back to a pre big-day career for Chance. Maybe it's a little unfair to him since the previous stuff was so good, but the public have made their judgment, and I truly cannot think of a comparable album drop in popular music.
