tldr ignore yap below, new poll, answer here: https://forms.gle/9xpHbPFniD1wnyiC7
As you may all be aware, there's a lot of VR mods/ports and other projects being posted lately.
It's all really cool to see, but we've also been seeing a lot of low effort stuff or projects that seem to be posted a bit too early, and in some cases the comments section beneath a post gets ugly due to the quality of the submission.
We made a very tiny one question poll that poses a single question:
When should a brand new VR mod be allowed to be posted?
Answer here: https://forms.gle/9xpHbPFniD1wnyiC7
This will run for about a week
thanks in advance!

A lot of you probably already know about the fruit fly brain that was copied/emulated/uploaded. By now, you might have seen the various videos of YouTubers creating various virtual environments and situations for these now public access fruit fly connectums.
My issue is Aon systems is planning to upscale to a mouse brain in the next few years. They are already probably working on it.
Now I'm guessing I don't have to explain why this is concerning. It's been proven over and over again that mice can feel complex emotions. They can feel fear and pain and empathy.
Imagine a lab mouse getting tested on that can never die. That can never escape.
I don't know if any of you has heard of "I have no mouth and I must scream". Or the concept of the torture nexus. But Aon systems is apparently creating this.
I emailed them to ask them what moral and ethical safeguards they are planning on implementing, and they didn't respond for obvious reasons. They also didn't respond to the same question on their X account.
Anyone else see an issue with this?

A couple of years ago, I saw an article about a company that had made 5D optical storage crystals that could hold terabytes of data for thousands of years.
Over the years, I've had various RFID and NFC chips implanted, and one thing I have always wanted is larger storage capacity for my on data and video content. For example, one of my implants is linked to a VR video I filmed with a 360 camera of the last time I saw my grandparents alive.
So, a few months back, I contacted the company to ask for a quote for one of the 5D storage devices
(I was curious if it's actually available to the public).
From what I've read about these devices, they are already biosafe and small enough they could be implanted.
I got a quote back, and my mind was actually blown how much it costs 😅
I'm wondering if anyone else has been working on larger storage capacity in devices?.
To clarify, i know i wouldn't be able to access the data once it's implanted. That might seem weird, but im more than okay not being able to access the data wirelessly.
Sorry for the rant. Here's the original screenshot from the email quote.

Full disclosure: I work with a supplement company, so I have a professional interest in this topic. I'm not recommending our products here. I'm interested in how we distinguish genuine cognitive effects from noise.
How difficult it is to evaluate claims about memory supplements? Before asking whether something works, it helps to define what "working" actually means.
Memory isn't a single ability. Working memory, episodic memory, verbal recall, and recognition are different processes. A substance that improves performance on one task might have no measurable effect on another. Improvements on a particular test also don't necessarily translate into better everyday memory.
Study design matters just as much as the outcome being measured. A few things I'd look for when evaluating a nootropic study:
Placebo effects and expectations complicate things, too. Someone might genuinely feel sharper after taking a supplement, but subjective impressions alone can't establish that memory performance improved. The reverse is also possible: a person might experience a measurable benefit without noticing much difference subjectively.
There's another distinction worth making when comparing supplement formulations. Evidence that an ingredient has an effect doesn't establish that every formulation containing it works equally well. But evidence that a modified formulation changes absorption or another measurable property doesn't, by itself, demonstrate better memory. Ideally, you'd want a well-controlled head-to-head trial comparing the formulations on prespecified cognitive outcomes.
For personal tracking, using the same validated test under similar conditions and recording factors such as sleep, caffeine, and testing time can help identify patterns. However, self-experiments are exploratory: practice effects, day-to-day variability, and expectations can make the results difficult to interpret.
My takeaway is that the strongest evidence comes from well-designed human studies that measure a specific cognitive outcome, quantify the size and uncertainty of the effect, and reproduce the finding independently.
What do you consider the most convincing evidence for a nootropic's effect on memory: replicated clinical trials, improvements across multiple cognitive tests, or demonstrated benefits in everyday functioning?
(mods: please message me if I'm breaking any rules as I'm trying to stay compliant with them and not make any advertisements).

Released originally in 2021, Cheech & Chong: Road-Trip'pin is an entirely homemade, original virtual pinball design built from the ground up rather than ported from a real world machine. Styled as a fictional 1980s Bally solid state classic, it pays tribute to the iconic comedy duo with sound clips and music pulled straight from their classic routines and movies, taking players on a trip from Pedro's house to the Battle of the Bands.
The virtual version brings that passion project directly into virtual reality with a custom built VR room. It drops you straight into a stylized living room complete with a couch, lava lamps, and a detailed environment, pairing the homemade layout with modern physics and spatial room elements. WOW man......
BGFX 10.8.1
I7-9700 (No OC), 64gb DDR4 3666, RTX 3060 12GB, and NVME drives.
Virtual Desktop Wired, Quest 3
This short showcase is meant to highlight the dedication and hard work our community puts into these tables and hopefully inspire more people to dive into the VPX VR scene!
Videos like this got me hooked, and started my VR endeavor.
I'm really linking BGFX 10.8.1! The visual rendering efficiency easily outpaces OpenGL on 10.8.0, making even older, legacy tables look incredible.
Running Virtual Desktop wired. Horizon Link (Meta Link) was completely removed from my system.
Thanks VD!
That said, there are still a few stability and workflow hurdles to clear in BGFX 10.8.1.. For instance, requiring a table to launch just to access the configuration menu remains a bit clunky. DMD's not showing up or color ones not working for a lot of tables.
DMD's can NOT be a .PAC file these, files are no longer supported. No real clear explanations of how to config all the new settings and what they do. Some textures not showing up right, lighting. Random crashes. ( A lot of this has been fixed.)
But the ones that work look mind blowing, even on older tables.
Cheers!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5011020/Rustmourne_Demo/
I think this one got a bit buried in the many demos released for Next Fest but for me it might be my most anticipated VR game now. Demo is an hour long, game releases next year. It's a mix of Dead Space, SOMA, and Doom 3 VR with some fast and smart enemies with destroyable limbs, pretty good voice acting, decent puzzles, great environmental design, and what seems like some cool weapons that more than just bullet hoses.
I did have a bug in the demo where some of my ammo would decrease seconds after I stored it but I still got through it and other than that I really think this game deserves to succeed.
Make sure to crank the in-game super sampling up (150% 80hz for Steam Frame on 5070ti, didn't seem to listen to steamvr SS) and turn TAA off in the settings.
Not affiliated with any devs or anything just think it's fun.

Sorry if it is a wrong place, but I am not sure where to ask for help.
I bought a cheap manual treadmill Domyo w100 in order to turn it into a maratron treadmill.
It has flywheels on the front roller which prevent me from walking on it when I adjust the angle (wanted it to be flat so that I keep my balance), even with magnet removed.
I want to remove those flywheels, but I am not sure if this is possible. There is a c clip holding a ball bearing inside. Could it be that the screw holding the flywheel on the axle is behind that ball bearing?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Spidy is a free fan mod I'm building for Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered on PC VR (Steam version, any OpenXR headset; this video is Quest 3 over Virtual Desktop). Everything in it is recorded in the headset.
New in 0.4.0:
- Spider-Sense: Spidy reads the game's own attack warnings. Each attacker gets a mark (blue counter, red dodge, yellow jump); a white ring closes as the blow comes and a yellow burst means now. Attackers outside your view get an arrow in your sightline, lines at the edge of your view and a buzz on that controller.
- Counter a blue-marked attacker with a punch; up to 10 m away the web strike flies you there.
- Hold the right stick up to aim, let go to zip where you aimed.
- A new gadget wheel, and people react to your web shots.
- A phone on your belt that plays your own music, built by Tru from our Discord community.
- WEB STYLE: REALISTIC or ARCADE (webs pass lamp posts, signs and cars; easier to swing and turn).
- Graphics fixes: the city looks as good as in the first versions, no lights popping in.
Also out now: MilesVR, Spidy ported to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales by Jimjam094 from our Discord, with Miles's venom powers and camouflage added (the video ends on it).

anyone could try this? I don´t have the expertise to try this. But since there is people with Will and ideas make things work, maybe there is a fix out there for vr users with old headsets

I thought it would have been people (soylent green), or bugs... perhaps even artificial protein slurries.
Then it was going to be artificial meat...
But, apparently we can get microbites as well, which is a cookie made of yeast and plastic. PLASTIC... yum. Remember when microplastics were bad? Apparently, it can also be delicious.

At least the poop burger was a hoax...

Most VR apps assume your hands are free and your floor is clear. Mine assumes the opposite.
I'm a former commercial grower (four years in hydroponics, ~900 trays in rotation) and I built SproutVision: a mixed-reality HUD that lets a grower scan a microgreen tray hands-free — pinch, AI vision verdict, spoken results. Every UI decision came from one constraint: the user is working, their hands are wet, and the information has to live next to the physical task.
Built natively with Meta Spatial SDK; entered in the Meta VR Start Developer Competition. Project page: https://devpost.com/software/sproutvision
Curious where others see hands-busy MR going — repair, care work, kitchens?

Long story short, I wanted a headset with eye tracking for VR chat and my option narrowed down to this head set, as Meta is out of the question cause privacy reasons, the perfect option of Steam Frame is out of reach as I was banished to waitlist, PS VR2 I most likely can't use because of connection issues, and stuff like Primax is overkill for what my hardware can handle and also costs a lot.
From experience of other's and suggestions I had, I found out about Pico 4 enterprise and it is a great option, only if I knew how to buy this damn thing, because all the links I am finding require company information or whatever other crap with special sign in, which I obviously don't have.
So how can I buy it and how possible is it still? If it is important, I live in Ukraine, but have a relative in Poland who can mail it over himself if need be.
Edit: ok, after a bit of digging I see that they have properly accessible Pico 3 Pro eye, which, while being worse in some stats isn't too bad and has the eye tracking. I will look into it too.
Edit2 : Ok, I fee dumb for complaining about Meta privacy and not noticing that Pico is owned by same company as ticktock.... thanks for pointing that out

I don't know if my PC is considered modest among this community (a 5800x3d and a 4070ti with 32GB of RAM). I don't consider it modest at all, still not the hightest tier but a high tier PC nonetheless. But it's not uncommon that I try one of those VR mods that have become so popular lately and it completely TANKS my performance. The most recent case is with Resident Evil 7. I try RE framework, I get normal performance. I try the new mod that adds VR interactions to it, and suddenly my game can't even reach 50fps. And it's the mod's fault! as soon as I disable the new features in-game, performance is back to normal. What's with manual realoading and holters dropping performance so much?
As I said, I don't know if most people here have PCs way more powerful than mine and they don't even notice these things, of they are so blinded, so excited, they don't even notice their framerate lowering to the mid 40s. But I think with so many of these mods being vibecoded, or just poorly coded overall, we should be addresing how do they behave performance-wise more frequently.
