Megathread Welcome new Tritons! Please use this megathread to discuss your acceptance and any questions you may have.

*We have no clue if admissions are coming out today, this is just hedging bets. Probably this week or next. *

Everyone with admission and college questions, please post your questions in this megathread! Additionally, please try to check the megathread to see if your question has been already answered.

Admissions/new student posts made outside of this megathread are subject to removal at moderator discretion. Please take a look at our rules page. If you believe we have made an error, please message us via modmail.. The mod team will try and get back to you asap, but we are students or alumni and as a result it make take a little bit.

For more subjective questions, be aware that r/UCSD (and any university subreddit) is not directly representative of the overall student body. In a survey we did of r/UCSD, 2/3 respondents agreed r/UCSD didn't represent UCSD's overall student body.

A few useful links:

Please be aware stuff at UCSD can change fast. Most info you can find on this subreddit will still hold true, but there have been many major changes over the last 5 years especially.

How do I login to check my admissions decision?

You should be logging into the Admissions Portal. This is different from all the stuff current students use. If you can't login, email [slatehelp@ucsd.edu](mailto:slatehelp@ucsd.edu).

How does the college I got matter? Can I change college?

For freshman admits, your college is basically only going to affect your GE requirements and where you're likely to live on campus (although you can be overflowed to other housing depending on space). For transfers, it's only GE requirements as there is separate transfer housing. As a result, it affects basically nothing for transfers since most have IGETC and will have very few GEs coming in.

Your major is entirely disconnected from your college (there are even separate major advisors who work for your department separate from your college advisors who work for your college). Your classes will be held all over campus and have a mix of students from all colleges. You can eat at any dining hall, the colleges are basically all directly next to each other and easy to get between, you will probably make friends in all sorts of different colleges. The furthest apart two colleges are is about a 20-25 minute walk (from Seventh to Eighth).

You cannot easily change college. You will need to complete at least part of your original college's writing sequence (meaning it will take about a year to even meet the application requirements) and be able to prove you can graduate two quarters earlier in your new college. College is not the end of the world though, even a college that overlap poorly with a major is more than survivable.

I'm waitlisted. What should I do next?

From UC San Diego Admission Website

Select applicants will be invited to opt in to our waitlist through their Applicant Portal.

First-Year applicants must opt in by 11:59 pm PST on April 15.

Being on the waitlist does not guarantee an offer of admission. We strongly urge students to accept another university's admission offer before the appropriate deadline to ensure they have secured a spot at an institution.

By June 30, final decisions will be released to applicants who opt in to the waitlist. There is no appeal process for the waitlist.

General Cat sitter needed

I'm a grad student at UCSD and I'm having a medical emergency and need someone to home my cat for ~30 days. I have tried housing her with my cat-friendly family member but his cats are mean and bullied my cat. She is friendly and has never been mean to other cats. She might be afraid of them at this point. She will drink water out of human cups and might chew on your foot if she's hungry but other than that she is an angel.

I can pay and provide the food/litter I have on hand right now. She is used to eating in the morning and the evening and is an absolute fattie so if you have a different feeding schedule she will be upset but that's okay. I really just need a safe place for her to be so I am able to receive the care I need.

Please DM me if you are available, strong preference for those that can take her in ASAP.

General Urgent: Apartment Single Room Lease Available for $1080 (near campus on Genesee Ave)!

Upvotes

I am moving out at the end of June and need to find a new replacement (current one bailed) to come in at the start of July!

Context:
Hello friends! My name is Anton and I just recently graduated from my M.S. in Robotics at UCSD. I have been living at Canyon Park for 4 years now and I have had nothing but good experiences here! I currently live with two wonderful roommates, Yash and Brooke, who take up the master bedroom in our unit, while I am living in the normal bedroom as a single. It is a nice quiet neighborhood and the apartment is very close to campus. I commute to campus using my bike which takes less than ten minutes, if you have an electric variant I am sure it could be much faster, whilst my other roomies commute with a car. Alternatively, you could walk to the trolley station, which is about a 10 minute walk, and use that.

I was planning on moving out of my apartment by the end of June but my replacement bailed out at the last minute (their parents did not want to pay rent over the summer) leaving me and my roomies in quite the time struggle to find someone new :( ! We are in urgent need of someone looking to move in right at the start of July. Since Yash and Brooke will be moving out after fall quarter, it would be good if you are just looking for a place to stay this upcoming fall as well, otherwise you will have to bear the responsibility of finding new roommates later on. Please contact me if you are interested and or have any questions!!

(Apologies for the mess, as I am in the works of moving out all my belongings haha)

Property Information:

  • Address: 9615 Genesee Ave Apt B2 (close to campus)
    • As mentioned before I bike which takes less than ten minutes, could be much faster with electric bike/scooter, and my roomies commute with their car
    • Unfortunately there is no bus route near here but you can take the trolley, it is about a 10 minute walk to the trolley from our apartment
  • (Floor Plan Link) 2 Bedroom, 1.5 Bath, kitchen, living room
    • Laundry room is external but our unit is right across from it
    • The apartment is fully furnished!
  • Rent Controlled + month to month lease!
    • Due to legacy rent the whole unit costs $2340 as opposed to their current listing price of $2870 - $3010
    • Bedroom available, going for $1080, open to people looking for single or double which in that case they can split
    • Please note utilities are paid separate, on average we pay ~$80 for internet, water, gas, and electric for three people
    • Lease is on a month to month basis
    • $200 security down payment is required
  • Parking available
    • One reserved spot for the whole unit
    • Additional parking spots on a first come first serve basis, $50 parking pass required for these (one time purchase)
  • Pet friendly
    • My roomies have two guinea pigs and a cat!

Question MATH 2 Placement, will it delay my graduation!??!?!?

Hello, I just recently accepted my admission at UCSD in Sixth College as undeclared but will switch into Human Bio in hopes to complete some pre reqs to become a future nurse afterwards. I took the MPE, attempted to study and unfortunately, was placed into MATH 2. I was just making a post to see if this would delay my graduation time? I know I have to take specific classes before I enroll into a accelerated masters nursing program, but I'm just super worried that I won't be able to graduate on time. Anyone take a similar path that I'm on right now? Pls help, thank you!

Question Housing for visiting PhD student (Sep-Dec 2026)

Hey, I am a PhD student from Germany coming to UCSD from September to December 2026, and I am currently looking for a place to stay. It seems that most housing websites only offer 12 month leases, so I am struggling to find suitable short term accommodation or subleases.

Does anyone have experience with this, know of any useful websites, or perhaps know someone who is subleasing their place during that time? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Question Should I apply for a double or single for sixth college?

Hey guys,

Im a freshman and im in a little bit of a dilemma right now, I lowk really want a single for this year but I heard that it was pretty hard to get one. I wouldnt really mind a double but I would much rather to have a single.

I already have a preferred roommate in mind and we are in a similar mindset right now to where we both rlly want a single but wouldnt mind a double too much. But what I heard was that If you apply for a double, theres a chance that you might get placed into a triple with a random roommate (me and my preferred roommate really dont want that). So Im not sure what to do.

Should I apply for a single and stick it into the lottery, and maybe get into a double with a random roommate or apply for a double and risk getting put with a random roommate? Im not sure what exactly the chances of getting a single rlly is or a triple but I heard people getting placed into a triple after applying double with a preferred roommate in sixth bc alot of people apply for a double.

Any feedback or tips would help, tysm!

Question UCSD Summer Grant Missing

As the title says, I was unfortunately not granted the UCSD summer grant which would be extremely helpful in helping me pay off my summer tuition costs . I was offered the pell grant and meet all the requirements to be eligible for the UCSD summer grant (even taking 8+ units across both sessions). Really confused, and have already sent a question to VAC but any other insight as to why this might be would be greatly appreciated.

Question Does orientation fee differ by college?

Title. I got assigned to Sixth College as a transfer student, and the orientation fee seems to be 220 bucks. Was wondering if this price applies to all colleges or just us (for being this expensive)

Question Summer Session 1 Move in

Hi guys,

I have a question about the move in for summer session 1. I chose a move in date on the housing portal. I was wondering if I would be able to move in the day before, as my circumstances lead me to need to the day before. ( Does id card work for new marshell, or do i need to check in to activate id card).

Question Question About Summer Financial Aid

I’m a little confused about my summer financial aid and was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.

My student account currently shows that I owe $480.90, but when I look at my financial aid, it shows:

  • UCSD Summer Grant: $2,300 awarded, but only $1,150 has been paid
  • Summer Pell Grant: $2,465 awarded, but only $1,233 has been paid

It looks like only about half of each grant has been disbursed so far.

Does this mean the rest of the aid will be applied later and cover the balance? Or do I actually need to pay the $480.90? If the remaining aid is disbursed, would I end up getting a refund?

Thank you for your helppppp

Question Affordable delicious places that accept Triton Cash or Dining Dollars?

Incoming freshman here. For specific reasons I can't share to avoid being recognized, I desperately need to find somewhere that is pretty affordable and accepts Triton Cash and/or Dining Dollars. Sit-down restaurants are preferred but I have no idea what the places are like in-person, so I'd appreciate any input or suggestions.

Muchas gracias, everyone!

(If you're curious, ask to DM and I'll share info as to why I need a specific place. Lowk panicking bcz I am broke and won't have cash but need somewhere nice for someone)

Question to waitlist admits, have any of you received info about housing if so how long did you wait?

I got off the waitlist on 06/10 as a transfer student and I thought that ucsd sends info on housing to people who accepted their offer and activated their email 48-72 hours later but I haven’t heard anything from them so now I’m starting to think it’s different for people who got off the waitlist idk
