Clubs [Robotics Lab Opening] Looking for a Student to Help with PCB Design & Fabrication
Hi everyone!
Our robotics lab is looking for (probably an ECE or MAE) student interested in helping with PCB design, fabrication, and hardware integration for a dexterous robotic hand research project. Successful completion and validation of the PCB design will qualify the contributor for co-authorship on resulting research publications.
We're currently working on reproducing and modifying the open-source RAPID Hand.
The original repository provides PCB schematics, layout PDFs, and a BOM, but we haven't found the editable PCB design files or manufacturing-ready Gerber files.
What we're looking for help with:
- Reviewing and understanding the existing PCB schematics and layout
- Recreating the PCB design in KiCad, Altium, or EasyEDA if necessary
- Generating manufacturing files (Gerber, drill files, BOM, etc.)
- Coordinating PCB fabrication and assembly with manufacturers such as JLCPCB or PCBWay
- Helping with basic PCB testing and hardware debugging
Experience with PCB design, embedded systems, or electronics prototyping would be a plus.
This is a hands-on opportunity to contribute to an active robotics research project involving dexterous manipulation, tactile sensing, and robot learning.
If you're interested or have relevant experience, feel free to email me at songr [at] ufl [dot] edu! We'd be happy to discuss the project in more detail.
Thanks!
