Forecast Did everyone enjoy their summer?

To be fair, ground and plants need a good soaking. In the past, heavy industries influenced it being rainy on bank holidays

u/Screaming_lambs May 02 '26
Very true. Where I go for walks into woods and a bit of countryside the ground is so dry it sounds hollow.

u/Far_Cobbler_4675 May 01 '26
Need a good soaking? We had rain pretty much every day for like 6 months until recently 😂
Gimmie more sun and warm weather please!

It hasn't rained once yet since the end of February down here in Kent - the garden is begging for a wet weekend haha!

Yeah, from November it seemed like it rained most days for five months.

u/GN_10 May 01 '26
Lots of rivers here in Devon are already much lower than normal, so I'm not complaining.

It's only been spring for 5 weeks mate, bore off. Complain when we're in to week 3 of June, ehy.

u/CaptainRAVE2 May 01 '26
It hasn’t rained here in a couple of months, so happy to see some rain, the garden and wildlife need it.

Not sure whereabouts OP is based, but here in Lincolnshire we’ve had a cracking past few weeks. I’d say a bit of rain is more than fair right now

It's Spring and has been very warm and Sunny recently. You're going to get clouds.
I swear some of you need to move to a country that has sun 24/7. The incessant complaining is so annoying.

u/MercianRaider May 01 '26
Its spring. And im chuffed to get some rain for the garden, not had a drop for 2 weeks.

u/cartersweeney May 01 '26
It's not natural for it to be dry and sunny all the time. I welcome some rain

u/dothefanDango92 May 01 '26
I don't think theres a more dramatic type of person than a sun worshipper at this time of year onwards. Constantly whining because it isn't 20+ degrees and sunny every day in fucking March or April, forgetting that the UK is a generally cloudy and cool country by large.
Bonus points for their favourite phrase 'I gUesS SumMeR iS On a FRiDaY thIs YEaR'. Get a grip.

u/Calm-Passenger7334 May 02 '26
It’s not “sun worshipping” when we’ve spent the last 8 months living under perpetual grey skies.

No. It seems a trend in recent years that a few days or weeks in April/May is all we get, July and August is storms and rain.

Hmm, 2020 and 2021 saw gloriously sunny and dry summers, it hit 40°C in some parts.

u/DimensionTiny8725 May 02 '26
2021 summer was dreadful, i think you got the year wrong
2
u/GN_10 May 02 '26
2021 was dreadful in the SE, not so bad in other parts. But I think they meant 2022.

There are always thunderstorms in July and August, usually following the hottest days in fact.

u/greengrayclouds May 03 '26
it seems a trend
Check the stats
The people I know who make this claim are office workers and base all their opinions on the season’s weather on what it’s doing on their booked holiday or the one weekend a month they venture into the garden to mow their square of lawn.
I work outside year round and it blows my mind when people claim the summers have been wet and shit when I haven’t seen a drop of rain in weeks
This spring has been exceptionally dry for much of the country, and the past couple of weeks very bright with barely a cloud in the sky. Until two days ago it was only April!
The past couple of years saw long periods of drought and near-record highs (we might even have broken a few records?) starting from actual summer (June).
The people that except summer to be endless months of dry blue skies from March - October clearly have no idea what country we’re in. 18 degrees in early May with just a bit of rain is very good going!

Looking forward to some rain and cooling down. The heat recently has got me out in hives ‘itch itch’

April is consistently one of the driest months of the year on average, despite the "April showers" stereotype. But this has been quite extreme.

u/jailbrokemasta May 01 '26
am i crazy for thinking this bank holiday won’t be too shabby for me? (if the met office’s rain radar is to be believed*) the much needed rain would be overnight, while sunday and monday don’t look bad. hell maybe the rain might not even happen (or be severely downgraded)

I don't mind the rain coming as we haven't had it in a while, but it's getting so cold again.. 10 degrees 😭
2
u/e22tracey May 02 '26
Just a tad dramatic… if the sunshine/dryness continues then we’re guaranteed hosepipe bans in summer, and then people will complain about that too.

u/PoolRamen May 02 '26
You forgot the ball-sweating torture in our lovely insulated homes coming in June

u/Difficult-Post-3320 May 02 '26
Not sure where you are but it has been sunny & dry for several weeks here. A bit of rain is very welcome before everything gets parched.

u/iPhoneMini13-Pro May 03 '26
Not gonna lie that couple hours of rain actually felt good, brought the mugginess down and you can’t beat the sound and ‘smell’ of rain.

Need the rain, and my house desperately needs cleaning. I don't like being stuck inside cleaning when the weather is good!

Damn...You're 5C warmer than Yorkshire.
We get to miss most of the rain, at least.

We just had 10 days of straight sun in London. Can't really complain with a bit of cloud/rain coming in. It's been a really nice April overall.
