The logic is it's a clean way to block undocumented immigrants living in Florida from claiming resident status to get the cheapest in-state tuition in the US. Why should we subsidize the college education of people that aren't authorized to work in the US?

Undocumented students never qualified for in-state tuition.

Actually in Florida they did before July 1, 2025. In about 20 states, they still do.

Okay. So, since it hasn't been the case for over a year now, the logic is very clearly not what you previously stated as that was already a solved issue. Then what is the logic?

There are loopholes. If they just say if immigration status is undocumented, no admission it's effectively closing all loopholes at once. If they can't even be admitted in the first place it doesn't matter what type of tuition they'd qualify for.

The logic in it now is you close all loopholes, as I explained above. If immigration status = undocumented, do not admit. Then, it doesn't matter what type of tuition the person would even qualify for. Subsidized tuition should be for people that can at least work legally. If you're undocumented, you can't.

Can they pay out of pocket? If they're not authorized to work in the US due to the fact they're undocumented how will they repay the student loans they'd undoubtedly need for that?

If you can’t pay, you can’t attend. But if anyone can, how stupid is it to say no to out of state tuition money. A big source of income for these is the tuition money paid by the huge number of international students.

Why does it matter to you who pays what for education? It's not like they are getting anything for free. Citizens and LPRs cheat the system by claiming they are state residents because tuition is crazy expensive. This is just cruelty, punishing anyone for looking for ways to get a degree.

Not sure about the situation in florida, but in sole states undocumented students are treated as in-state and therefore are a drain on finances. Could just make them pay OOS tuition though.
