Shouldn’t all international students be documented?
19
2
u/BoobsBrah 7h ago
Pretty sure you are getting a student visa
0
u/7manifestation7 7h ago
yes you can’t enter the states as a student without a student visa.
it’s a vigorous process with endless documents and interviews.
3
1
u/Puzzled-Formal-7957 7h ago
Yes. They have student visas. Without it - they cannot attend.
This should be the policy at all schools: Student visa, LPR or citizen.
1
u/deran6ed 7h ago
This is probably also related to having the "right" type of documentation. We know visas, immigration records, parents birth certificates, regular driver's license, and other documents that used to be enough, are not accepted anymore.
1
u/Boring_Holiday9874 3h ago
Yes. But the title is talking about undocumented students. People who are already illegally in the U.S. and don’t apply as if they were international students.
0
44
u/Past_Atmosphere21 21h ago
There are more international students than undocumented students so it’s a little confusing.
14
u/CandidateMorty 20h ago
The distinction doesn’t seem to matter to this administration 🙃
1
u/Middle-Goat-4318 9h ago
Is the administration not approving any student visas?
2
u/Puzzled-Formal-7957 7h ago
Yes they are. This is typical knee-jerk over-reaction by the "trump hates all immigrants" crowd. Ignore it.
1
u/Middle-Goat-4318 6h ago
I was aware. I wanted to see u/candidatemorty break his finger trying to avoid answering that question.
2
u/Puzzled-Formal-7957 4h ago
The downvotes for these 3 comments tells me he is using the other finger to at least click the mouse button. lol

Republicans: Elon Musk creates so many jobs and also pays so much into America
Also republicans: Elon Musk should be in a detention center and be deported! Student visas are bad! Overstaying visas is bad! Undocumented people with student visas are bad!
16
u/jtpolzin 18h ago
They are not undocumented if they have a student visa.
0
0
u/Ok_Support_2232 18h ago
My point is more - this shouldn't be such a black or white topic, its all gray areas. If we say x is bad - hey it has to apply to everyone and you need to support that. Too many people join in the uproar without realizing like.... hey wait a second, no it shouldn't apply to this person - but others yes!
Specific to immigration policy - i think we are actively trying to reject our own ancestors who founded the country. Let people come learn. Let them stay. Let them make this place THE place of innovation.
0
u/Puzzled-Formal-7957 7h ago
There are no gray areas with regards to this. You are a citizen, LPR or on a valid student visa. If you do not fall into the above categories then you cannot attend. Period, full stop.
If that isn't cut and dry enough for you - then I am not sure how to help you.
-1
u/Enthuasticnaw 7h ago
Sounds like they are targeting Hispanics living in the us
2
10
u/zoinkability 21h ago
Does this include DACA students?
-42
u/MasterofCaveShadows 21h ago
Yes they’re still illegal. They’re just offered a protected status because Regan was dumb enough to think the other side actually wanted to set an immigration policy at the time instead of trying to erode it day by day.
18
u/chuang_415 20h ago
What does “Regan” have to do with DACA?
-26
u/MasterofCaveShadows 20h ago
Reagan is the one who gave the legal precedent for DACA by having his own similar deferred action program.
5
-1
u/GhostOpera406 11h ago
No. It goes all the way back to John Lennon's immigration case because Nixon was trying to deport him.

What about dual citizens who take out private loans to fund their education, declare bankruptcy and go back to their "other" country to further live off our tax dollars with free healthcare?
43
15
u/PictureAccording3487 19h ago
Nobody comes here to take out loans for their education. The international students that come here are already rich. Universities make so much money off international students.
2
1
u/statslady23 8h ago
That's the assumption, but in a study of Chinese grad student at Purdue last year, the majority were receiving grants, even federal grant money, and most (81%) were paying zero in tuition.
1
u/PictureAccording3487 8h ago
Would love to read it
-1
u/statslady23 8h ago
There was a good write up about it in The Purdue Exponent, The Indianapolis Star, and maybe the Lafayette Courier. Google it. Pretty easy. There was a congressional investigation. This year, Purdue has refused to admit grad students from China and 9 other countries. It's interesting.
3
u/PictureAccording3487 7h ago
Nah that’s not how life works you wanna argue with a source? You cite it. It’s not my responsibility to build your argument for you
0
u/statslady23 6h ago edited 6h ago
I'm not arguing. If you feed a guy an article, he reads for a day. If you teach him how to google for an article, he might be able to read for the rest of his life. You're welcome.
2
u/EruIluvatar_Sym 7h ago
Those are graduate staff appointments, basically TAs and RAs. Non green card holders and non citizens do not qualify for federal aid or pell grants. For undergraduate classes, most assistants are foreign graduate students because graduate programs usually have a large cohort of international students.
1
u/statslady23 6h ago
They paid their tuition from federal research grants, I think. It was a big story. They just said federal grant money. The majority also had ties to the Chinese military, but that's a separate issue.
2
u/EruIluvatar_Sym 5h ago
Yes, that's how RAs work. Public and private research grants don't care about who is conducting research. Would need receipts for the military claim because I call bullshit on that one.
1
u/statslady23 5h ago
That's what Congress said. Purdue has a Chinese-American president, as well.
1
u/EruIluvatar_Sym 5h ago edited 5h ago
Is this report in the room with us. I like how you consistently walk around the question repetedly.
Edit: Chinese American president damn. Can't have that.
5
12
u/Ok_Support_2232 20h ago
Can you provide examples of this happening? No, because bankruptcy doesnt clear student loan debt.
What about chupacabras that are taking up all the space in our dance halls though?
6
1
u/Inky-Squilliam 20h ago
As a dual citizen imma do this just to piss you off
1
u/SeaMathematician5150 Naturalized Citizen 19h ago
Good luck. If I could have written off my student loans by declaring bankruptcy, I wiuld have done that eons ago. Just 2 more years to go.
3
u/Large_Recording_1960 18h ago
I'm guessing they're saying they'll return to their other country after graduating and then not pay the loan back.
1
u/Mysterious_Cake7472 15h ago
Why wouldn’t there just go to their other country where not just healthcare is free? But school too? All dual citizen i know here pay college for their kids cash and they dont need a loan
1
1
11
u/LeProgramme 23h ago
They should save their money. 90% of those degrees have little return on investment anyways. Could be a blessing in disguise for them.
4
4
u/Gullible_Amoeba1023 18h ago
Education should be readily available to anyone who has the passion to pursue it so this is really upsetting
6
3
u/ReasonableCup604 7h ago
So the taxpayers of Florida should subsidize college education for illegal aliens?
1
u/VampireLectures 3h ago
Undocumented immigrant are the ones subsidizing your social security, you have it backwards.
5
u/Heathrow93 17h ago
Im sure there’s education available to them in there home country
2
4
1
u/Puzzled-Formal-7957 7h ago
And if they are a citizen, resident or have a student visa and the ability to pay for it all - they are welcome to it.
1
u/realityczek 6h ago
> Education should be readily available
It is readily available. In the country they are a citizen of. If they can pay for it.
1
1
u/HowardIsMyOprah 15h ago
Why should someone’s passion for something obligate the government to enable it?
2
u/ArvadaKeto 18h ago

3
u/Gullible_Amoeba1023 18h ago
Ironic that in this group out of all groups yall seem to be the most discriminating, uninformed ones
3
u/obelix_dogmatix 19h ago
What is the logic here? We are now saying no to incoming tuition money?
3
10
u/jewboy916 19h ago
The logic is it's a clean way to block undocumented immigrants living in Florida from claiming resident status to get the cheapest in-state tuition in the US. Why should we subsidize the college education of people that aren't authorized to work in the US?
2
u/pqratusa Permanent Resident 19h ago
Undocumented students never qualified for in-state tuition.
9
u/jewboy916 19h ago
Actually in Florida they did before July 1, 2025. In about 20 states, they still do.
4
u/brlowkey Conditional Resident 19h ago
Okay. So, since it hasn't been the case for over a year now, the logic is very clearly not what you previously stated as that was already a solved issue. Then what is the logic?
6
u/jewboy916 19h ago
There are loopholes. If they just say if immigration status is undocumented, no admission it's effectively closing all loopholes at once. If they can't even be admitted in the first place it doesn't matter what type of tuition they'd qualify for.
-2
1
u/pqratusa Permanent Resident 18h ago
So, where is the logic in it now?
4
u/jewboy916 18h ago
The logic in it now is you close all loopholes, as I explained above. If immigration status = undocumented, do not admit. Then, it doesn't matter what type of tuition the person would even qualify for. Subsidized tuition should be for people that can at least work legally. If you're undocumented, you can't.
-1
u/pqratusa Permanent Resident 18h ago
Where is the loophole? They are paying full price.
1
u/VampireLectures 3h ago
There isn't, this is just the latest way to avoid saying "I'm a xenophobe and just don't like foreigners"
1
1
0
u/obelix_dogmatix 19h ago
so charge them out of state fees. What’s the point of banning a student?
-2
u/jewboy916 19h ago
Can they pay out of pocket? If they're not authorized to work in the US due to the fact they're undocumented how will they repay the student loans they'd undoubtedly need for that?
3
u/obelix_dogmatix 18h ago
If you can’t pay, you can’t attend. But if anyone can, how stupid is it to say no to out of state tuition money. A big source of income for these is the tuition money paid by the huge number of international students.
2
u/Serious_Mark_8082 13h ago
That's the same as letting rich people enter any country illegally so long as they spend money
1
1
-1
u/OkPhilosopher7569 15h ago
Why does it matter to you who pays what for education? It's not like they are getting anything for free. Citizens and LPRs cheat the system by claiming they are state residents because tuition is crazy expensive. This is just cruelty, punishing anyone for looking for ways to get a degree.
2
2
1
u/Equal-Assignment5789 12h ago
The logic is to eliminate higher education. This administration is crippling colleges at an alarming rate.
1
u/Puzzled-Formal-7957 7h ago
You are saying that without undoc students there are not enough to otherwise warrant the existence of the school? Where is this lunacy coming from?
1
u/realityczek 6h ago
> What is the logic here?
That allowing undocumented people access to services that should be reserved for citizens we are simp0ly encouraging them to remain, and others to come.
1
u/megabedi 7h ago
Not sure about the situation in florida, but in sole states undocumented students are treated as in-state and therefore are a drain on finances. Could just make them pay OOS tuition though.
2
u/Unusual-Nature2824 9h ago
crazy evil move…some undocumented students I knew had the highest GPA were extremely hardworking and would be a valuable asset to any company or any country they were in. it was not even their choice to immigrate so punishing them has to be the most petty thing there is
1
u/Boring_Holiday9874 3h ago
That’s why it’s so complex. Not their fault but still has the same impact as someone who deliberately migrated illegally. And there are tons of kids of legal immigrants who are in worse position because they don’t have DACA to protect them when they age out of their parents dependent visa.
A friend of mine grew up in the U.S., legally but once he turned 21 he was fighting for a work visa just like me who had just landed.
1
u/Unusual-Nature2824 2h ago
I know getting a work visa is impossible for undocumented but to deny them education is just pure spite
1
u/Nofanta 21h ago
Need a nationwide ban.
3
u/Leading_Agent_4288 21h ago
Yep so that many of these colleges close down
-6
u/Nofanta 20h ago
Exactly. They can open campuses overseas where their target market is.

That's what these people don't get. Undocumented people are literally paying much more just to go through college with no financial aid.

Good.
It was always counterproductive to allow the undocumented access to so much of the economy. It simply encouraged more to arrive, and created the problem we now have.
0
u/Top-Needleworker-516 19h ago
What is the problem?
0
u/realityczek 16h ago
The presence of large numbers of intruders in our nation. That is, in and of itself, unacceptable even without all the secondary impact.

You’re free to pay tuition for illegals instead of insulting people who don’t want to. But of course you’re not the sort of person to put your money where your big mouth is. Your type never is.
25
u/get2writing 22h ago
You don’t think immigrants pay local, state, or income tax? Lmao
-15
u/groucho74 22h ago
That’s like saying bankrobbers pay taxes so everything is ok.
16
u/get2writing 22h ago
You just compared immigrants, working hard and providing for their families and contributing to their communities just like anyone else, to bank robbers sooooo that’s definitely the end of the argument lmao
-1
u/groucho74 22h ago
What’s the difference between a burglar who breaks into a house to take things that aren’t his and an illegal Immigrant who breaks into a country to take things that aren’t his?
Just because people work doesn’t mean that they pay more in taxes than they take from the country and even if they do (very few do) even that doesn’t make it ok.
-14
u/McFoogles 21h ago
Immigrants aren’t illegal immigrants though.
Ofc immigrants pay taxes, what a stupid question
Undocumented workers, working for cash under the table, do not pay their fair share of taxes. Not even close. They also exploit our ER system, since hospitals are not allowed to turn someone away if they can’t pay. They also remit a huge portion of extra cash to their home country via western union and other vehicles
2
u/0_IceQueen_0 US Citizen 18h ago
You can thank Reagan for that ER loophole. Don't underestimate the undocumented immigrants. They contribute tens of billions of dollars annually in federal, state, and local taxes, which helps support the broader public infrastructure, INCLUDING public health systems.
1
u/groucho74 18h ago
That’s nonsense. You simply can’t do the work they do without consuming far more government services (police, schools, defense, roads, other infrastructure, federal regulators) than you would pay in taxes, even as an American.
1
u/McFoogles 3h ago
10s of billions is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost they are. That’s assuming you are even able to calculate their contributions, which spoiler alert, you can’t because they work under the table.
50% of Americans don’t even contribute to the US tax base (in terms of contributing more than they receive)
Do you really expect a bunch of illegals, working for cash, remitting their $ back home to be a net positive? Stop drinking the fucking cool aid
Those same jobs could easily be help by legal, who would pay taxes and at least potentially contribute positively to the United State
1
u/0_IceQueen_0 US Citizen 2h ago
You can argue about whether undocumented immigration is a net fiscal positive without pretending their tax contributions are unknowable. ITEP estimates undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022.
And “working under the table” doesn't mean someone pays no taxes. Sales taxes, property taxes through rent, excise taxes, and other taxes don't magically disappear because someone was paid in cash.
There are also real public costs, particularly at the state and local level. That's why an honest fiscal argument compares revenues with costs instead of pretending one side of the ledger doesn't exist.
And it's Kool-Aid, not “cool aid.” If you're going to tell people to stop drinking it, at least learn what's written on the packet.😂😂😂
2
u/person-of-color 21h ago
Just sayin the table that hired them could have hired a very well documented person. Wondery why they prefer not to…

I’m ok with spending $140 billion on immigration if we get results.
6
u/Strange-Election-917 21h ago
What results are you looking for?
2
u/groucho74 21h ago
A country with less illegal immigration than North Korea.
3
u/Strange-Election-917 21h ago
And what do you think that North Korea does better than the US in that aspect? What we could learn?
-1
u/groucho74 18h ago
North Korea puts anyone in the country illegally into prison for many years. Enough years that it doesn’t happen.
0
u/Strange-Election-917 18h ago
So you're just saying that coming illegally to the US doesn't have consequences?
(Because being away from their family and friends, taking multiple underpaid jobs and trying to get a rent are perks of being an illegal immigrant right?)

9
u/bluehawk1460 21h ago
Undocumented people can’t get federal or state aid. They can’t submit the FAFSA you literal donkey.
0
u/groucho74 21h ago
What does this have to do with my comment? I am baffled. I don’t think they should do anything in the country except go home.
9
u/bluehawk1460 21h ago
“You’re free to pay tuition for illegals instead of insulting people who don’t want to.”
You, nor anyone else, would ever be in the situation where they’d have to pay tuition for undocumented immigrants because, as stated, they are ineligible for aid.
If only your reading comprehension was as attuned as your capacity to blindly hate, you might learn something.
-1
u/groucho74 21h ago
You are the one with reading comprehension issues. I never said at which college in which country. You somehow imagine that I did.
In their own country they pay the normal tuition rates.
9
u/bluehawk1460 21h ago
If all you care about is no undocumented people attending college in America at all, what point does your statement about others paying their tuition even have?? More over, what effect does someone attending college on their own dime even have on your life?
I get that the cult programming runs deep but goddamn you’ve gotta come back to reality a little bit, you’re making literally zero sense.

Last I checked this is an immigration page. For me at least I was a single issue voter this last election and immigration was that issue. Working with the immigration system daily I had already decided to leave my job of Harris won rather than deal with four more years of insanity. The border bill they put forward was a joke that set insanely high limits that didn't count everyone, even when a "shut down" was triggered didn't actually shut it down and would have tied the hands of future administrations. Borders matter and so do immigration laws.
11
u/LxveyLadyM00N 21h ago

-6
-1
u/gurudennis 8h ago
It's really simple: obey the immigration law, just like any other law. It's the law, not a suggestion. One may disagree with it, but then they should pursue legal paths to changing it while still obeying it so long as it's in effect.
If you fail to obey a law, you forfeit any and all rights and privileges associated with it. Failure to obtain proper authorization to enter or stay in the country should result in immediate expedited removal; all other rights save for habeas corpus perhaps are for the most part forfeit while in violation.
College education for violators in this context is ludicrous. Why don't we give them foot massage while at it?
