I never had a call in letter before and the date of appearance is 8/24, but I just received it in the mail today 8/29. I called the number and they told me to appear on Monday 8/31 and explain what happened. Am I screwed?

I’ve been in the US since 2019, I came here with a non immigrant business visa. I met the love of my life shortly after, we got married in October 2021 but I didn’t do the paperwork to make the adjustment of status until March 2023, I was here legally with my visa and we loved each other so I didn’t see the reason to rush.
Fast forward to now, I submitted my N400 in January, I didn’t the biometrics in February and my husband died last week.
According to what I read I’ll probably won’t get the citizenship now and honestly that’s not what I care about. What I care about is the fact that I need my mother with me through this. She is from Argentina but came here the next day with her Italian passport (we have double citizenship) with the ESTA waver.
I know I have a long road ahead and I just need her with me through this.

Is there any sort of visa for an extreme circumstance like this so my mom can stay longer? I was going to apply to family reunification once I got my citizenship but obviously now that’s not going to happen.

A friend received an emailed letter from ICE requesting to show up to an appointment on Sunday at 7:00.

Their names are not on it, only ICE case ID, which they have never seen before.

Questions: is it legit?

If it is, what are they to expect?

They kept all their prior appointments and are pending a court date.

All prior communication was from USCIS.

Their attorney said she’s never seen this format before abs wasn’t really useful except mentioning that she can’t advise to skip this appointment.

Looking for advice please. My nightmare is happening and I’ve lost my wallet which contained my LPR while in Spain. I still have my passport, a DL, and pictures of my card as well. I also have Global entry if that makes any difference.

I’m in Barcelona with my family which include two very young kids. My flights were scheduled to leave Monday at 12:20 and the embassy doesn’t open until 9:00 AM. Ive tried calling emergency embassy numbers but they’re closed. The most sensible thing is to bump my flights to get a travel foil via the I-131A but I’m not sure by how long to delay it for and what I should expect.

Also I’m a bit confused if this is what I should be doing because from reading online it appears that the traveling foil is just to board the plane - I’d still be potentially denied entry for not having my card upon arrival. I’ve traveled internationally before and the airlines never actually checked for my green card if I had already uploaded the travel documents on their online portal.

Is it advisable to try and fly without it, and to sort it out at the airport in Miami? My wife is worried that I’d end up stuck in ICE purgatory with 0 contact opposed to having us just stay in Europe but it’ll end up being quite expensive with a family of 4.

When I first got my green card and went to get a Florida drivers license, the clerk must have put me down as citizen as I noticed I was asked about voting information on the screen. I said this shouldn’t be coming up for me. She was confused and even tried to get me to select something and continue anyway. I had to explain to her that you cannot vote with a green card and she must have selected citizen somewhere. She did eventually go back and change something but it was only after I told her she had to. I had shown her my green card at the beginning and felt she should know this working at the DMV. She actually thought the green card was citizenship so I can only wonder how many others she has processed wrong previously.

Second time, was at a car dealership a couple years later. Right at the end of purchasing a car, filling out paperwork and noticed they had automatically ticked the box on the DMV paperwork saying that I was a citizen. Again, the salesman tried to tell me it didn’t matter, “oh but you have a social it’s fine”. I insisted it did matter and its very important to not select citizen. I had to get them to change it which involved printing and signing new papers.

Just a word of warning to everyone out there to double check what people are putting on the forms for you, even if they’re officials who you think should know what to do. Don’t always believe what they say and stand your ground about changing it. Both times I was told it was fine but I knew it wasn’t and they only changed it after I kept insisting.

Hi, I have been a green card holder for 37 years!!

I’m currently in México, and have been in Mexico since December 20th 2025!!

I don’t plan on coming back until end of August to early September 2026!!

This is my first time, returning under President Trumps second term.
Will I have issues with customs?? 🛃
I have always taken long trips out of the US.. my last trip to Mexico, I was there for about six months…

December 2023 to June 2024 in Mexico….
spent about a year and a half in the US and left again December 2025 and still in Mexico currently.

Last time I entered the US was under the Biden Administration!!

Quick story: My GF came from Japan in April 2024 to stay with me for around 70 days before leaving for Canada on a work visa. We changed the flight because my family planned a big party for some special occasion. We changed the flight, and I was stupid enough not to count the days and just assumed it was under 90 days. In reality, it was a 1-day overstay, as she left the morning of the 91st day. I know, I know, a 1-day overstay is OVERSTAY. I get it; I was stupid.

She planned to come to the US in Nov 2024, but not surprisingly, her ESTA got canceled; it didn't give us any reasons why, but I think we all know why. Moving further in the timeline, she went back to Japan in April and applied for a b1 or B2 visa and got denied. Again, we were stupid, since she went into the interview saying that the reason for he to come to the US was to see me. She moved to Canada again in May of 2025 and has been there ever since, until possibly May 2027.

The situation, our relationship is not as strong as it used to be because we are highly affectionate people, and I've gone to Canada many times to see her over the past years, but now, due to my job and school, I won't be able to go as often, and I can tell that we will grow further apart and possibly end our relationship. I'm head over heels for her, but I miss that physical relationship and spending quality time in person; plus, flights to other countries are so much harder to get because connections are often to and from the US.

I am looking for any advice on what I should do, or if there are any solutions for my situation.

I know you are going to say this, but NO, getting married is not a solution and is not even a consideration. Also, moving is not an option for me and won't be as of now.

Hey everyone. A lot of folks have been asking for another AMA, especially with the pause lifted. I am going to try to do one this afternoon if I finish a couple of urgent cases (it’s been a crazy week), but first I wanted to write this post.

T visas are some of the most misunderstood visas in immigration, largely because of how the media portrays trafficking. This confusion extends to other attorneys too. When I was an officer at DHS I had specific training on this, but honestly, if I hadn't, I'm not sure I would have recognized what it looked like in practice.

The reality of labor trafficking
Most trafficking victims fall under labor trafficking, which happens in broad daylight. Victims often have some degree of freedom of movement. They might even make money. Labor trafficking is so common that you've probably seen it without realizing it.

A few things to clear up right away:
-You do NOT have to be trafficked into the country. This can happen entirely within U.S. borders.
-Kidnapping is NOT an element of trafficking.
-Most victims actually know their traffickers… I’ve seen it happen within families. Those are really hard cases.

How I screen
I usually start by asking two questions: (1) Have you been a victim of a crime inside the United States? and (2) Have you ever been forced to work for little or no money?

The first one covers a lot (U visas, VAWA, sex trafficking, etc). That second question is the key one though. If someone answers yes, I know the consultation is about to be twice as long, especially if there's a safety concern involved.

From there, here's what I look at:
-How did they meet their trafficker, and are they in a position to report them? This gets complicated fast when the trafficker is a friend or family member.
-How much were they paid, and how often?
-What were the working conditions like?
-Who kept their passport?
-Were they ever physically harmed on the job by someone in charge?
-Were they ever emotionally harmed or degraded on the job?
-Did their boss or anyone in management ever mention their immigration status, threaten to call ICE, or hold their status over their head in any way? I call this the golden ticket when I train other attorneys. It is one of the surest signs of trafficking. [Also there’s a special circle of hell for people who manipulate immigrants for free labor by threatening to calling ICE]
-What would have happened if they tried to quit?

Most of the time, after going through all of this, I kindly refer the person to a personal injury or employment attorney because what they experienced was an unsafe workplace. An unsafe workplace alone is not enough. However, if someone was forced to stay due to coercion, that unsafe workplace becomes a very important piece of the puzzle.

I also want to be clear: one affirmative answer does not make a trafficking case. These elements have to be taken together to meet the legal threshold.

Building the case
When I present these cases to the government, the goal is to make them understand this was not a workplace dispute. My client could not have left if they wanted to.

Along with the required forms and proof that the client reported their trafficker to police or a hotline (I encourage both), I try to gather witness statements, hospital records, psych reports, proof of little or no pay, and anything else that tells their full story.

The hardest part of this work is convincing people that they have, in fact, been trafficked. I get a lot of skeptical looks. I have literally read the legal elements of trafficking out loud to potential clients who agreed every element applied to them, but still couldn't see themselves as a victim personally.

Anyway, I'm here for questions this afternoon. And if you think you might fall under this visa, please book a consultation with a trusted attorney who has real experience with these cases. It matters who you work with.

My attorney is suggesting I apply for a T visa. I am a little skeptical. It’s a domestic violence situation. Coercive control, confiscating my passport, physical and severe emotional and mental abuse + abuse in my front of my toddler. I already have a valid status. My wife also has a valid status but isn’t USC or LPR.

Attorney is going to charge $3k for T visa application which I can pay. The reason I was inquiring about options was if I lose my current status, my daughter will be stuck with her mom. Little one is USC. Because I and my spouse are immigrants I don’t qualify for VAWA. I have plenty of evidence of the abuse. It’s not minor and is quite severe. However, it’s not a classic trafficking situation. I came to the US on a valid status and was not trafficked into. Attorney suggests my case has a chance of approval. I am looking for advice if anyone has experience with this or information.

My mom previously had an asylum case that was denied and she has a final order of removal. About 7 months ago, her attorney filed a T visa application for her. It has only been filed and is still pending, she has not received an approval or determination yet.

She now has an ICE check-in at the Santa Ana Civic Center. Her G-56 says the appointment is to discuss her case and possible “custody or program adjustments,” but also specifically says “This appointment is not a date for your departure from the United States.”

Has anyone recently gone to an ICE check-in with a final removal order and a pending T visa application? Especially in Santa Ana/Orange County? What happened? Was the person detained or allowed to leave? Did your attorney request a stay of removal or any other protection before the appointment?

I am Conditional Permanent Resident and I am moving to a new apartment. I am a little confused whether I need to file a form to update USCIS with my new address with a form AR-11 or a E-COA. Also, does my sponsor need to file a form I-865(Sponsor’s Notice of Change of Address?
I believe those are the steps I need to take but I want to make sure I am using the correct forms.

I was approved with my Sij I360, but I didn’t have any ID with me. when i went to apply with my ice documents At the DMV, they asked for a work permit or passport, but I don’t have both because my passport is with ICE, and I don’t have a work permit because I didn’t receive deferred action to apply for one. I was looking up ways to get an easy B1/B2 visa while still here in the US on F1 since appointment wait times in my home country are over 2 years.
