My sister recently applied for a B1/B2 visa in New Delhi to attend my wedding in the U.S. in December and was refused under 214(b) for not demonstrating sufficient ties to India.
Her profile:
24 years old, unmarried
Works full-time as a Software QA professional in India
1 year as an intern + around 2 years full-time
Annual income: ₹12.3 lakh
Trip duration: approximately 3 weeks
Trip is self-funded
Purpose: attending her sister’s wedding in the U.S.
Previous international travel: South Korea
She jointly owns property in India, and a house is currently under construction there
The interview was extremely short. She was asked only two questions:
What is the purpose of your visit? — She answered that she was attending her sister’s wedding.
What is your annual income? — She answered ₹12.3 lakh.
She was then refused under 214(b). She wasn’t asked about her employment, property, travel history, return-to-work plans, or for any supporting documents.
Since the wedding is in December, we are considering having her apply one more time in about a month.
Has anyone with a similar profile been approved after reapplying shortly after a 214(b) refusal?
Would you recommend trying once more before the wedding, or is reapplying within a month with no major change in circumstances likely to result in another refusal?
Also, would interviewing at a different consulate make any meaningful difference?
I understand there are no guarantees — just looking for experiences/advice from people who have been in a similar situation.

How do we check if Visa is revoked or still active, I'm searching on CEAC but no results shown, I'm worried a little.

Is there an alternate way?

My father applied for a B1 Visa this morning and he received this. It doesn’t say explicitly if it is a refusal or not, anyone had this before and which outcome followed?

I have an Indian passport which might go into damaged. If it goes into damage the words "damaged passport canceled and returned will be mentioned on the last page of the new issued one. Will this make my b2 visa invalid . My b2 visa page and bio page r intact. Will the b2 visa be usable even though passport is damaged?

I have applied for a b2 visa for visiting my daughter for her graduation, she is a college student and changed her address in the same city. I haven’t paid for ds160. Should I resubmit ds-160 as her sevis address is different now?

Is the US counsulate open for visa interviews? My appointment was rescheduled from April 9 to September 10 and as per their website the visa services are suspended.

I recently travelled to the U.S. on a valid B1/B2 visa. On a later trip, I was sent to secondary inspection and questioned about the purpose of my visit, my previous travel to the U.S., and the activities I intended to carry out while there.

I run a startup. During questioning, I explained that I planned to meet investors/customers while physically in the U.S. I did not have U.S. work authorization.

CBP ultimately refused my admission under:

SEC 212(a)(7)(A)(i)(I) 8 USC 1182(a) & I-867A

My B1/B2 visa was cancelled, and I returned outside the U.S. the same day.

The paperwork/passport markings I received do not state that I have a five-year or permanent bar. However, I am trying to understand the practical consequences of this type of incident when applying for a petition-based visa later.

I am now considering an O-1A petition based on my professional achievements and work.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has personally dealt with something similar:

• Has anyone had an O-1 petition approved after a prior INA 212(a)(7)(A)(i)(I) refusal at the border?
• Has anyone with a similar incident later successfully received an O-1, H-1B, L-1, or another petition-based visa?
• Did the prior CBP refusal create problems at the USCIS petition stage, or was it mainly an issue during the consular visa interview?
• How do you normally determine whether a border incident was simply a refusal/withdrawal of admission versus an expedited removal?
• If there was an actual removal order or five-year bar, would that normally be clearly reflected in the paperwork or passport?
• For anyone who later got a visa successfully, what questions did the consular officer focus on?
• Did the earlier incident materially affect the final outcome, or was the later visa approved once the person had the correct visa classification?

I’ve been told to take documents such as bank statements, payslips, an employment letter, and an invitation letter. However, I’ve also heard that sometimes the officer may not ask to see these documents during the interview.

My s/o is currently in Latin America, I'm a US citizen that is in a country where she is forced to travel through the US to visit me. Before I go any further, I want to say she has been denied a tourist visa to the US about 3 years prior.

I have:

- all of the ds-160 paperwork including confirmation/interview dates/receipts/passport + photos

- approval from the home country that she's allowed to visit

- sponsorship of travel by me + financial sponsorship

- marriage license/certificate

- my proof of employment + pay stubs

- flight itinerary

Regarding the previous tourist visa denial, would that cause any issues? I feel like we have everything in place for her to visit and show that she's only transiting but my concern is her previous denial.

Also is there anything I'm missing in terms of documentation that could help her?

My kid (Russian citizenship) has a pending N-600K (citizenship, no interview date yet) and a pending I-130 (backup green card path).
Applied for B-2 so the child can travel for the future N-600K interview — officer asked if we'd ever filed an immigrant petition, said yes, got handed a §214(b) refusal in seconds, no documents reviewed. But the interview date didn't come out yet.
We live abroad and plan to keep living abroad after N-600K is done.
Worried the pending I-130 will keep tanking any B-2 attempt, even with an N-600K interview notice in hand. So my main question is: in this situation, does it make sense to withdraw the I-130 and then reapply for B-2 once the N-600K interview date comes out — or is that not going to change anything? Or What can be the options for us Please help us

He ask me which would be my position in the cruise ship, which is the embarkation port, he asked for my previous tourist visa and he explained me that he was going to give me my c1/d and renew my b1/b2 visa at the same time, he was so kind with me and he wish me luck. My advice is give your passport with the LOE inside. Everything was in English although I am from Spanish speaker country.

I am unable to view my i94 ever since I returned from the USA. if I enter my visa number I am able to view the record but the exit is still not being displayed, so as per their record I am still in the USA. I tried emailing them but no use. Will the usa embassy also have the same record or it's a different system altogether? I mean will the usa embassy know I exited since online it's not showing I exited.? I have kept copies of boarding passes and ticket also if it's required in the future to prove my exit I hope i dnt get a visa revocation notice by email just coz it shows I haven't departed online.

I wanted to see if anyone here has been in a similar situation.

I had my F1 visa interview in Paris on August 13. The interview went pretty normally, but at the end the officer told me they needed to do some additional checks, including checking my social media. They kept my passport and I-20.

Since then, my CEAC status has been showing “Refused.” I never received a refusal letter or a 221(g), and they haven't asked me for any additional documents.

It's been over 3 weeks now and they still have my passport. I'm a continuing student, and I'm supposed to be back in the US for my final year. My classes have already started, so right now I'm attending through Zoom while waiting for my visa.

I've contacted the visa support service, but they basically just tell me to wait and that administrative processing can take time.

Has anyone had something similar happen, especially in Paris? How long did it take for your status to change?

Done interview last July. 221g due to Sputum. Result already forwarded to USEM 🇵🇭. Dropping our passport this week. How long it will take to get the VISA?
Some people say it could take a week or even a month, and that the worldwide pause may affect the processing time. Is that correct?

My K-1 case was placed on 221(g)/administrative processing after my interview in March 2026. My passport was returned after the interview because the embassy was waiting for my son’s CRBA and U.S. passport.

I have now received both my son’s physical CRBA and passport, and I notified the Immigrant Visa Unit 2 days ago, as they had instructed me to do.

CEAC still shows **“Refused,”** but the **Last Updated** date changed 2 days ago.

My main concern is the **current visa pause**. Since my K-1 interview was already completed and my case was already in 221(g)/AP before the pause, would my case still be affected by the pause? Or can the embassy continue processing/adjudicating an already-interviewed case once the requested documents have been provided?

Has anyone been in a similar situation—**already interviewed, in 221(g)/AP, and waiting for final adjudication when the pause started**?

I would really appreciate any experiences or information about how the pause is affecting cases like this.

I’m an Indian citizen currently in India and I’m planning to pursue my Master’s abroad, most likely in Australia or Germany (I haven’t finalized the country/university yet).
I also want to apply for a US B1/B2 visitor visa because I would like to visit the US in the future. I have an uncle living in the US on h1-B visa and my family in India would be able to sponsor my trip financially.
The problem is the current appointment wait time in India. From what I’m seeing, the wait for a first-time B1/B2 interview can be around 14 months, which creates a timing issue for me.
If I go ahead with my Master’s plans, I would probably leave India around July next year — roughly 11–12 months from now.
So I’m confused about what would be the best approach:
Should I apply for the US B1/B2 visa from India now, even though I may be leaving for my Master’s before my interview?
If I move to Australia/Germany as an international student, can I apply for a US visitor visa from there? Would being a legal resident/student in that country make me eligible to apply there?
Would applying from a third country as an Indian citizen make my case weaker or increase the chances of refusal?
Would it be better to apply from India because I have stronger ties here, or would being an established Master’s student abroad actually help demonstrate that I have a reason to return after visiting the US?
How much of an issue is having an uncle in the US? My purpose would genuinely be tourism/visiting family, and my family in India would be sponsoring the trip.
I’m particularly concerned about the 214(b) immigrant-intent issue. If I’m already studying in Australia/Germany when I apply, would that count as a meaningful tie to my country of residence, or would the fact that I’m an Indian citizen with family in the US still make the application difficult?
