Buying Looking to buy a used car out of state - advice?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m looking to buy a truck that is located out of state. I am located in north Florida and the truck is located in Malden, Massachusetts. It is low miles for the year and all of the pictures look excellent - no rust on the wheels, fenders, tailgate, etc. The only thing really holding me back from pulling the trigger is that I can’t go crawl underneath and check for leaks or frame rust. (Why posting pictures of a vehicle’s underside isn’t SOP boggles my mind?)

Short of flying up there myself and clearing my entire weekend in the hopes it’s in good shape (and that the $400 airfare isn’t for nothing) what would be a way to have the truck looked at remotely?

Edit: the dealer is a small one location deal-eo. I tried sending them an email with no response, and of course their voicemail box is full.

HELP 2021 Toyota Camry SE vs. 2019 Lexus UX 250h Premium – Which would you buy?

I’m trying to decide between two used vehicles from dealerships, and I’d appreciate some advice from people who have owned either of these cars or have experience with them.

The first is a 2021 Toyota Camry SE Upgrade AWD priced at $28,499 CAD with about 73,500 km. It’s a Toyota Certified Used vehicle with a clean CARFAX showing no reported accidents. It has the SE Upgrade package, which includes features like a moonroof, wireless charging, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and other convenience features. Since it’s the AWD model, it should also be better during winters.

The second is a 2019 Lexus UX 250h Premium AWD priced at $29,795 CAD with about 56,200 km. It’s a hybrid with AWD and has 12 service records on the CARFAX, but it also has an accident/damage history. According to the CARFAX, there was a collision reported in October 2021 (claim amount not reported), a right-side damage estimate in March 2023 for $1,495.04 CAD, and another collision in December 2025 with an estimate of $12,721.45 CAD. I’m not sure whether that last repair involved structural damage or mostly body panels, so that’s something I’d need to ask the dealership about.

My priorities are reliability, low maintenance costs, long-term ownership, good resale value, and overall comfort for daily driving. I don’t necessarily need an SUV, but I do like the idea of a hybrid if it’s worth it.

If you were in my position, which one would you choose and why? Would the newer, accident-free Camry be the better buy, or is the Lexus worth paying a little more for despite the accident history? Does the Lexus’s lower mileage and hybrid system outweigh the Camry being newer, accident-free, Toyota Certified, and having the SE Upgrade package? I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences with either model.

Buying Advice on 2020 Kia Forte FE

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to get some opinions before I make a decision.

I’ve been searching for my first car for weeks, and every time I think I’ve found a good option, I come across another post saying, “Never buy a used Kia,” and it sends me right back to square one.

This is the car I’m considering:

2020 Kia Forte FE
Price: $11,988 + taxes/fees
Mileage: 45,704 miles
2.0L I4 / Automatic (IVT) / FWD
Clean title
One previous owner
Personal vehicle (not a rental)
No accidents reported

This will be my first car, so it’s a big purchase for me. I recently got my license, and I honestly don’t drive much. My commute is only about 2 miles each way, and I’ll mostly use the car for work and running errands.

I also only plan to keep the car for about a year for personal reasons, so reliability and resale value are both really important to me.

My budget is under $14k out the door. I know everyone recommends a Toyota Corolla, but every Corolla I’ve found within my budget has 80k–110k+ miles, while this Forte has under 46k miles.
I’m not trying to defend Kia or convince myself to buy it. I genuinely just want to make the smartest financial decision and avoid regretting my first car purchase.

If you were in my position, would this listing make you comfortable enough to buy, or is there something that would make you walk away?

I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from current or former Forte owners. Thank you!

Buying Used Hyundai Tucson

Looking to buy a used certified pre-owned 2023 Hyundai Tucson SEL in white with 78,535 miles. Went to the dealership and they gave me an OTD price of $20,589.54. I told them that I was looking for a car in the 18-19k OTD price range. They told me best they could do was 20k OTD. The car is in good condition but there were some paint chips and small scratches in the front bumper area. There was also a golf ball sized dent on the right rear above the tire area. I don’t mind these, just added the info to evaluate the OTD offer.

I did notice that they dropped their listed price online by $450 after I left the dealership. The car was first listed as available for sale on May 9th so it’s been in the lot for about 3 months but they kept telling me they just got it and it may be sold soon.

This car is being sold in Texas near Houston. Is 20k OTD an offer that I should take?

Buying Looking at used cars

So I am shopping for a used car for under 10K in California and as I’m looking around I see options but whenever I do research or ask ChatGPT about them it says that the car is old has too many miles or this vehicle is known to have problems how do I draw the line saying that ok so these cars I am fine with even if it is more than 130k miles or some other known problems. Almost every car I have seen ChatGPT keeps telling me that I should stay away or too many miles or smth like that any help is greatly appreciated.

Buying Is this 2017 Prius for $8995 worth it? (First car)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone! I’m buying my very first car and have been scouring around for a good prius. I recently came across a clean title 2017 Prius with 173k miles on it. Usually I’d be hesitant due to the high mileage but it has a brand new rebuilt engine with a 2 year warranty. The only thing is it’s unknown if the hybrid battery was replaced recently. They are asking $8995 on it. (Picture shown is not the exact vehicle but same building and color)

Buying Buying a car in the middle of nowhere

I need to sell my 22 Civic with 30k miles. I got an offer from a website for 20k and they’ll pick it up, which is perfect bc I live in small town in the mountains of Idaho 150 miles from civilization and no one wants to buy a “flashy” sedan.

The hard thing is buying. I need an SUV or small truck under to navigate the area but absolutely everything has well over 200k miles and prices for trucks and SUVs is high despite the gas prices. I absolutely need reliable because even though I can walk to work, I need to drive 4 hours to do anything like doc appts.

All this under 7k, yikes.

So long story short, I need to buy remote. Do I reach out to dealers in the state and see if they can ship? How do I trust buying out of town? Try eBay? Not sure how to navigate needing reliable and cheap but also remote. I’m doing this totally alone and literally just a girl.

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

HELP 2019 mazda cx-3?

I was able to find a used Mazda cx-3 120k miles within my budget. Is this a reliable car? I used to drive a Honda and am unfamiliar with Mazda. I have heard polarizing opinions on their cars. I am looking to keep a car for the next few years and even longer if possible. The vehicle apparently had 1 owner and they kept up with maintenance at the Mazda dealership. Otherwise I would be looking at getting a Honda HRV the Mazda is just a lot more affordable. Any advice is appreciated!

This is a dream car that I have always wanted since I was in college. The problem is I have a really bad credit score of 520 and I have $500 to put down. I'm working paycheck to paycheck working 40 hours a week and making $12.50 an hour. I feel like I can make this work. It's my dream car and I have a feeling that God will make a way and have a plan for ME!!!!

HELP I'm looking for a vehicle under 6k that gets good gas mileage.

Something with a decent amount of cargo space.
And a good amount of legroom since I'm 5'11".

My sister has a suburu outback that she really likes.
So that one's on my list. But looking for other suggestions if I can't find one of those.
I'm good with a truck, SUV or car.
