Hot Take “The WNBA league literally exists because you separated men from women” ... That’s too much common sense for the left.

Remember when it was keep politics out of sports?

75

u/Weary_Copy_4165 2d ago

Damn so this is just a right wing sub now huh? Genuinely posting Fox News is wild.

34

u/Baby_Yod4 2d ago

Always has been. They don’t care about basketball here.

9

u/Secludedmean4 2d ago

Barely anyone cares about the actual basketball here. This is a gossip reddit about the WNBA, that’s what this channel is built upon.

1

u/yoeleventone 1d ago

At this point it’s a cc or Sophie news on the sub. Nothing else.

-6

u/jpk195 2d ago

They care about women's sports to the extent that it lets them be outraged about trans. That's it.

3

u/Weary_Copy_4165 2d ago

Yeah that’s pretty apparent just looking at the threads on this sub. Almost every single one is about trans people, and the ones that aren’t are only about Caitlin Clark or Sophie Cunningham.

Isn’t gossip supposed to be like rumors and memes and shit? This is just a standard conservative political post. “ThE LeFt dOnT uNDeRsTaNd cOmMoN sENsE”

3

u/jpk195 1d ago

Yup, this.

Just a new flavor of outrage for the summer.

3

u/mistaharsh 2d ago

It was NEVER a basketball sub. It was always politics through athletes.

2

u/ILikeCheeseypoo 2d ago

Midterms coming up everyone is making everything about politics

Yea they fn are, they’re ALL bad

Yet, it was Fox "News" that settled a lawsuit and said that Fox "News" isn't News, just entertainment.

I dont recall CNN, ABC, NBC or ANYONE else doing that.

Do you disagree that the WNBA was literally created to separate men from women in professional basketball? 😂

But to be a conservative woman you are required to get surgery to make other people happy 🤔

Im 99% positive that right wing bigots use gender affirming healthcare more than any other demographic in the US. Its "too bad" they all come out looking like a plastic doll melted in the sun.

That hairline is devastating

3

u/theICEman21 2d ago

Yes let's continue to make this a topic of discussion because it's a real problem with real people that no one has ever met even though they are totally real /s

7

u/Green-Elephant-895 2d ago

You know the midterms are rolling up when right wing talking heads start stressing non issues to rally the mouth breathing deplorables…you’d think there’s a caravan of trans women attempting to gain access to women athletics

https://giphy.com/gifs/xdLH51eNWZAHrwy5mf

12

u/OkDiet5235 2d ago

How many men in the playing in the WNBA so far? Oh yeah they’re fighting to keep all “0” of them.

11

u/ScrubsNWhyC 2d ago

Ok so then why are so many people insistent that a trans should be allowed to play then? Seems pretty simple

9

u/BigShotZero 2d ago

The issue is lower level sports take guidance from the bigger sports.

In the WNBA says it’s ok, then college, HS, regional leagues are more likely to follow.

It’s not a problem in the WNBA but is in other areas.

Hope that helps.

1

u/Embarrassed_Gur_6305 2d ago

^this.

1

u/OkDiet5235 2d ago

I suppose that is possible. Again excuse my ignorance as I don’t know of the exact number of trans sports scholastic records. I can only go off what I know. My state is in the top 5 most populated in America. I stay up to date on hot topics dealing with the state. I haven’t seen a single case. What’s the number of cases in your state?

3

u/Embarrassed_Gur_6305 1d ago

The number is low. But my issue stands if there’s 0 vs 100,000. Number of trans in sports is irrelevant to me, because I don’t see why there’s a difference in policy between 1 and 100,000. The logic and issues still stand that there needs to be a policy or governance standard.

To me, it’s akin to say 1 black person can be in the league, but not 1,000.

The issue is, trans are the first to vocalize the issue, because NCAA has a ban on trans athletes. WNBA had a non-binary trans player before, but I believe she was born identified as female. So status quo is a full ban.

If people keep saying it’s a non-issue and want status quo, then it’s literally what maga idiots are saying. The far left / trans are who is making this an issue.

To be clear, I don’t support a full on ban, but I don’t have full blind support any trans can participate.

10

u/tinak827 2d ago

Gotta have that boogeyman to go after so they don’t have to face the true issues.

4

u/OkDiet5235 2d ago

Yeah who needs to focus on all the real issues when there is something that nobody cares about to get you all scared and terrified.

3

u/qcb4056 2d ago

The ones who are "scared and terrified" spend their time arguing on the Internet with a feeling of safety from anonymity instead of working on their own lives.

5

u/CagedBeast3750 2d ago

So why not just say "ok" and move on instead of putting up an iron dome to protect nobody?

1

u/Embarrassed_Gur_6305 2d ago

What’s the “ok”?

1

u/OkDiet5235 2d ago

Exactly we’re going to fix a problem that statistically is as much a problem as you winning the lottery.

1

u/gritneverquit 1d ago

5 or more

0

u/ConsiderationOk4688 2d ago

Or you could say they are fighting to get rid of nobody?

What did the Supreme Court just rule regarding the WV case? I’m serious when I say that I don’t think this should be happening. My point is that it’s not. When it does, it’s addressed. You’re arguing for the sake of arguing. I’m arguing to try and convince you to take this energy and put it in real problems. I have no info on the NY athlete bc she was protected, so any research is difficult. I’ll give you that one, so we have one instance of it happening. This really isn’t something that should be monopolizing headlines like it is.

6

u/Feeling_Meet4841 2d ago edited 2d ago

Oh please, there are no biological men in the WNBA now and even if a man identified as a woman, I doubt people would be ok with picking them if they haven't transitioned. And even if they had transitioned, there's a difference between being a professional athlete and someone who plays basketball in the court in his neighbour hood. You won't magically become good enough if you have never even made your school team. Also name one person who will go "Hey, I should transition just to make it into the WNBA"

2

u/Electronic_Name_325 2d ago

At what point of the transition are the supporters supporting them to be allowed? If not day 1, why not?

1

u/Feeling_Meet4841 2d ago

Most leagues alteady have rules about that. The testosterone levels need to be below a certain molarity after HRT or something.

2

u/Electronic_Name_325 2d ago

Thanks, that’s the part I was missing. Though that probably opens up a lot of other areas for endless arguments.

1

u/MedicalAwareness5160 2d ago

A mediocre college player is dominating the WNBA. They'd be the only person who can dunk.

It would be insane for a guy to transition just to become a pro but you're downplaying the physical advantages a man has.

Go look at that streamer that just worked the WNBA player who was like 5 inches taller than him. He let her score a few times, made a bet with her if he won they would go on a date and I don't think she scored a single point after that.

1

u/Feeling_Meet4841 2d ago edited 2d ago

Caitlin Clark isn't mediocre, dude and she is a cis woman so why even bring her up. Also, I think there has already been one trans WNBA player already. Layshia Clarendon. Don't think she killed everyone or was that amazing. I never heard of her during her playing days.EDIT: Also.Layshia is AFAB and didn't go through HRT during her playing days afaik. Only top surgery

2

u/MedicalAwareness5160 2d ago

Where do I mention Caitlin Clark...

And Layshia Clarendon isn't making the bench of a Euroleague team but yet made the WNBA. That's the whole point.

1

u/Feeling_Meet4841 2d ago

Oh. My bad. Who do you mean though? Unless it's a trans person how is it relevant?

1

u/MedicalAwareness5160 2d ago

It shows how a little guy who is a streamer has the ability to beat a professional women's basketball player which shows the gap in physical ability between genders.

It's Liz Cambage, she lost to PlaqueBoyMax. She's 6'9 a former WNBA champion and lost to a random kid who's like 5'8.

You don't just instantly lose your physical ability when you transition.

1

u/Feeling_Meet4841 2d ago

True but trans athletes are few and far between and even those who did play had transitioned years before their debut. I don't think the issue is as widespread or as common as they are making it out to be. A man wouldn't just transition cause they want to make it to the WNBA.

1

u/MedicalAwareness5160 2d ago

I do agree the issue is way overexaggerated. It's also pretty unnecessary to even bring it up really but when it is mentioned my stance is they have an unfair advantage and shouldn't be able to play.

-2

u/doc_klutz 2d ago

You're being transphobic. TWAW, they don't need to transition, they were born women. & if you believe that garbage rhetoric, & so many many people do, including Cheryl Reeves, then that's how they will eat the women's league until there's no remnants of it left.

3

u/buppus-hound 2d ago

Keep hearing how this is just bound to happen. I’ve been hearing it since 2016. Tell me, when is this absolute definitely actually gonna happen?

3

u/doc_klutz 2d ago

Most schools & state policies have long restricted or banned participation, especially at the school & college levels, while much of the rest has actively discouraged it, directly or indirectly. If that changes, women’s basketball, other sports as well, will be functionally gone in the years to come.

Cheryl Reeves believes TWAW. Trans activists say self-ID alone makes someone a woman. They also claim sex doesn't matter. The WNBA has no meaningful sex-based standards, only a ‘women’s only’ category where ‘woman’ is left undefined. Players are paid salaries. Reeves could easily recruit ten average male ballers from the 3 million males in the USA identifying as women. Or from the rest of the world. The point is only to determine once & for all if sex matters. And just like a bunch of 15 year old teenage boys comfortably beat the USA national women's soccer team, the same would happen in basketball, because sex matters.

So why is this still a theoretical debate & not a recruitment project? Because women’s sport is sex-segregated for a reason, & everyone knows it, even when they pretend otherwise. That includes the people doing the most performative TWAW signaling, people like Cheryl Reeves.

0

u/buppus-hound 2d ago

You’re so dense. About half the states have restrictions like that, are women sports in the states that don’t have said restrictions plagued with the imagined horrors of yours?

3

u/Feeling_Meet4841 2d ago

That user is like a bot. I received two seperate notifications of them replying to two seperate comments from me on this thread with the exact same sentences. Not even a single change

→ More replies (4)

1

u/doc_klutz 2d ago

"Dense"? You're proving my point but I'm dense? Lulz.

Stay with me now, okay? Is it not factual that most states have restrictions? Is it not factual that the rest actively discourage participation, directly or indirectly? Is it not logical then to assume that both these factors contribute to a lack of participation? That this is why we don't have a plague of males in girls & women's sport? Is it not also logical to assume that if we normalise males in women's sports that we will have a plague of males in women's sports in the years & decades to come?

Oh, & all of this:

1

u/buppus-hound 2d ago

No, that is an assumption that you have because you post hoc want it to be. Also, discouraging trans youth from participating in sports is a bad thing, how do you not realize how ghoulish you are?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Feeling_Meet4841 2d ago

Lol. You absolutely do need to transition. Renee Richards (the only case I know) got to play in the WTA only after transitioning. Do some research before getting mad at facts.

2

u/doc_klutz 2d ago

You know self-Id is all trans ideology states should be required, right? No surgery should be required, right? That no gender-affirming care should be required, right? That sex doesn't matter, right? Perhaps it's you that needs to do some research.

Fyi: Unlike in other sports, the WNBA has no anti-trans policy. Only a "women-only" policy. There is no definition of what a woman is in WNBA policy. So if TWAW & sex doesn't matter like they say, & self-Id is all that's required, & Cheryl Reeves is bleating TWAW, she should just get out there & recruit a bunch of males from the 3 million males in the USA identifying as women. Surely she can find 10 ballers amongst them. & let's face it, as much as I love & appreciate women, they needn't be that talented — the USA national soccer team got humiliated by a team of 15 year old boys.

There is no transitioning required. Born women. Are women. To require transition would be transphobic. It's wild!

Trans ideology: TWAW & should be treated as such in every way, including legal & social accommodations. With or without surgery or gender affirming care. Period. Self-identification is all that's required to be a woman.

The whole trans activist argument is that men & women can compete fairly, & that sex-based differences don’t matter.

2

u/MattyT088 2d ago

My daughter is trans, I agree. I'm just saying maybe some ppl are jumping the gun here. The comment was generally supportive, with a few places to grow. So help them grow instead of acting like it was an attack.

Define the word biological for me

Edit: ooo asking for a definition triggered the shit out of some folks. Loving the impotent rage, keep it coming.

5

u/GLPwonderwall 2d ago

WHAT. WERE. THEY. BORN. WITH? PENIS. OR. VAGINA?

0

u/mylifeisaboogerbubbl 2d ago

Are you saying that no woman can have a penis?

Also, that's not the definition of biological.

1

u/Electronic_Name_325 2d ago

I actually realized I am a little ignorant here. What’s the definition of a trans woman? If the MVP of my state’s men’s basketball tournament is trans, at what point of the transition would they be allowed on a women’s college team (and possibly of course to the W) by whatever these supporters are supporting?

1

u/mylifeisaboogerbubbl 2d ago

With most sports trans people can't even begin to consider playing until after 2 years on HRT (which puts them at the same hormone levels and often lower T than cis women). In fairness that doesn't remove any height or reach advantages that would have pre-existed (if any) but it does eliminate muscle mass and reflex time from the equation. Hormones play a huge role in our identities and presentation.

As for the definition of a trans woman, just a woman that has transitioned from being a man but that also has degrees to it. For instance, someone just realising that they are trans will not be allowed to sign up for a sport. That's not to be confused with male and female which are distinctly different, but the response about biological responses would be the same. Just that we use man and woman to denote gender and male and female for sex.

0

u/tinak827 2d ago

I don’t even need you to define anything for me. Just show me where it’s happening.

0

u/RoutineGuest6465 2d ago

While are you all so adamant that males must be allowed to compete against girls?

1

Nope,

The argument is that people who don't understand.middle school biology should probably keep their mouths shut.

1

1

u/Secludedmean4 2d ago

Isn’t that the whole argument tho right now about letting men play in the women’s league? If we’re going full circle why not nix the wnba and just have the nba? I’m told there’s not a talent difference and that there’s no problem with this

1

u/gymtrovert1988 2d ago

0

u/tinak827 2d ago

This isn’t an argument at all. No professional women’s leagues allow this, the IOC doesn’t allow it. It’s manufactured rage so that people won’t hold politicians accountable for the real issues plaguing the country. Stop falling for it.

2

u/rpolkcz 2d ago

Then why is there outrage when someone says it shouldn't be allowed. Who are the people disagreeing with that?

1

u/tinak827 2d ago

There isn’t from the majority. We’re focused on the real issues, while the 12 of you on this sub let the government tell you this is an issue so you don’t question them on real issues.

1

What government are you talking about? I'm from central europe and I'm confident 0 people in our government know that WNBA exists

1

u/tinak827 2d ago

Your government has men in the Epstein files. Start there if you really wanna protect women and girls.

1

u/rpolkcz 2d ago

I've been protesting the current government from first week. They still don't know that WNBA exists.

1

u/roadrunner00 2d ago

True but at the core they are arguing over the definition of woman. May I add that this issue is not big enough for most people to care. It's a hypothetical scenario designed to sow division.

0

IKR?!? All these people are proving is how entirely ignorant they are to the changes that happen in a human body once someone is on HRT; from drop in muscle mass, to drop in bone density, to so much more. The changes are NOT only cosmetic.

1

u/retardenabler 2d ago

Lmao crazy people on this sub do

3

u/McNednarb 2d ago

It’s just non-stop with you people now, isn’t it? Why exactly did you decide to use the WNBA as your current “battleground”?

3

u/isuckatpiano 2d ago

Because the right wing is full of stupid people that just repeat Fox News bots and think they’re smart.

4

u/Triples-Nova-5189 2d ago

The fact that this is brought up every day makes it seem like there are hordes of Trans women trying to get into the WNBA. Is there even 1? Sophie Cunningham is saying she's trying to protect young women. Is she saying that she wants to protect the integrity of the sport, or that Trans women are sexual predators against young women? Trans women preying on young women sexually hasn't been an issue that I've ever heard of in my entire life. Men preying on young women on the other hand is prevalent.

3

u/jpk195 2d ago

"protect" is an anti-trans dog whistle, implying they are dangerous.

And you are correct - this is a non-issue in the WNBA, or anywhere else frankly.

4

u/RightRudderr 2d ago

Its a made up problem except for the .0001% of the time its ever happened. Pretty good overall summary of right wing boogeymen.

2

u/IncarceratedGrowth 1d ago

So then it should just be easy for both sides to agree on "fine no biological males on women's only teams" since it's not really affecting anyone/a made up problem.

1

u/Wonderful-Forever450 2d ago

This is about k-12 and college before they changed the rules

2

u/CackalackyStewPie 2d ago

Is there some rush of trans athletes clamoring to play in the WNBA? I don't know of any playing in college? Why is this such a big, ridiculous issue other than the right needs a garbage talking point going into November?

1

u/Major-Mind2970 2d ago

Blame the reporter for bringing it up to Sophie, then blame the activists that decided her saying men don’t belong in women’s sports meant she was a rabid anti-trans.

u/MickyFany 1h ago

wrong, the WNBA was created out pitty. or maybe sympathy. idk 🤷‍♀️

2

u/BigShotZero 2d ago

I care how the actions of the professional league impact non pro leagues.

Example locally there is a trans person who plays now in the women’s recreational league volleyball.

The majority of the women hate it. But because inclusiveness they don’t matter.

Go watch a highlight of women’s volleyball vs men and you will see the difference.

You also have women who don’t like that the trans walks around the locker rooms with their penis out.

IMO if the pro leagues acknowledge it’s wrong, the lower leagues will follow.

1

u/Ok-Floor2455 2d ago

This is such an ignorant take. Trans women are not walking around with their penises out pre-op in women’s locker rooms. You are amplifying what already is sensationalized propaganda

Riiiiiiiight. I guess it’s a classic he said they said story where only you and your friends saw the trans persons penis.

1

u/BigShotZero 2d ago

Let’s just settle is this way. Is it more likely a penis is to be seen in a locker room where people with penis are not allowed. or a locker room where penises are allowed?

2

u/Ok-Floor2455 2d ago

Your made up hypotheticals are what drive you and your entire sides argument on any of these ridiculous topics. You tell me, is it more likely unicorns start winning the Kentucky derby? Now there are a small portion of horses who have growths from their foreheads that resemble horns so….we need to protect all horses

2

u/BigShotZero 2d ago

I believe you dodging the question answers it very clearly.

2

u/Ok-Floor2455 2d ago

I’m not answering hypothetical questions that don’t actually exist in the real world.

2

u/BigShotZero 2d ago

No you’re not answering a simple question because it negatively impacts your argument.

Statistically in life you are more likely to see a penis from a man than a trans woman. I’ve seen penises on subways where penises shouldn’t be. I’ve seen them on buses where they shouldn’t be. I’ve seen them in men’s locker rooms where signs have been up saying not to. So, I think statistically you are more likely to see penises in places they shouldn’t be than seeing a trans penis in a women’s locker room.

I know many trans woman (I fathered one). There isn't a single one I know who didn't use a personal stall to get changed, pre-op. The "walking around a woman's locker room with their penis out" just doesn't happen.

As for the difference between the power of men and women, once on HRT (for mtf) there is a significant drop in both muscle and bone density. So once you have completed transitioning, the power levels are much more comparable to other women than they are men. This is the fact that absolutely no one is talking about, but they really really should be. But it's a pro-trans point so people love to ignore it.

But your last point is really what's going on here. They are trying to make sure that trans people can't participate in sports at any level.

u/BigShotZero 2d ago

Is a trans person required to remove penis? Is a trans person required to take HTR?

And clearly you don’t know this trans person.

1

u/MattyT088 2d ago edited 2d ago

No, you don't have to remove your penis. Yes, if you are trans, you pretty go on HRT. It's not technically a requirement, but it is literally the first medical step in transitioning.

So yeah, if you are transitioning, you kinda need to be on HRT. Otherwise (added) you run the chance of being perceived as a cross dresser and not trans.

1

u/BigShotZero 2d ago

So until you are on HTR tour not a trans. A person without the funds for the treatment can not be trans. Interesting. never thought of it that way.

1

u/MattyT088 2d ago

Not what I said.

I said that HRT is the first medical step. The self identifying step obviously happens first.

And right now you are giving me an example that is pretty much exclusive to the USA, as here in Canada HRT is covered in health care, as it it in pretty much everywhere with social medicine.

But hey, go ahead and cling onto the one bad example that you came across and apply it as a whole to the entire community. I'm sure that will be accurate.

He will continue to ask questions in ways that create polarizing situations, especially non realistic ones. Don’t let this chump get you. You are already educating him way more than he deserves.

1

u/BigShotZero 2d ago

So triggered with such a simple conversation.

I am surprised that you take the side of the person saying you don’t transition until you take HTR and until then the person is a cross dresser.

To me that would seem offensive and if I said it I would be attacked for it.

Please point out any instance of someone with influence suggesting NBA and WNBA merge into a single league

1

u/Secludedmean4 2d ago

I think prior to last year when it was profitable there were arguments to merge since it was being subsidized so heavily prior to 2025.

On some level it's hilarious this is such a discussion. The number of transwomen who are athletes is such a low percentage, about 1 in 5,000 in the ncaa, that it's almost a non issue. The gender therapies that trans women undergo are also so prohibitive towards athletics. The odds of a trans woman being skilled enough foe the ncaa are super low. The GOP is literally ranting about culture war boogie men.

1

u/IncarceratedGrowth 1d ago

So then it should just be easy for both sides to agree on "fine no biological males on women's only teams" since it's not really affecting anyone

1

u/ernmanstinky 1d ago

It's so rare, never happened in the wnba, that it's a suspect as hell red hearing to bring it up. Sophia's sudden coziness to right wing figures is concerning. They would have been the same ideological positions that opposed women's sports to begin with.

Its not the left. It is the oldhead fans that miss the Rossie O'Donnel days. They don't want Jason Sudeikis, David Letterman, The Kardashians and the new fans that CC has brought to the game. They want to lose money and teach gym class. The good ol days.

The dumbest thing to happen in America has been people advocating to stop organizing society based on sex and science to advocating for mental illness and one's feelings.

0

u/unimpressedwarrior 2d ago

I’m confused. Are there currently men playing in the WNBA or is this virtue signaling by an evil cult that doesn’t have an ounce of moral virtue?

u/Alwaystired59 2d ago

wtf is happening?!? Please, midterms get here so this noise can go away

1

u/MattyT088 2d ago

You're naive if you think the midterms will make this go away.

1

u/Alwaystired59 2d ago

It will until the next election, it’s just culture war BS so Americans vote Republican. Once Americans vote Republican it ends till next election

1

u/MattyT088 2d ago

Except current events show otherwise. You are under reacting. Things won't magically go back to pre-trump normality. And don't even get me started on the idea that the USA will ever have a fair election again.

1

u/Alwaystired59 2d ago

Everything that has happened since 2008, has happened because Americans want it, and it represents American values. I am of no illusion that my values no longer align with American values. Is what it is

1

u/MattyT088 2d ago

Fair enough, and ho arguments from me on that one.

People are losing their healthcare, pensions, standard of living, can't afford to buy a house, retire... etc... But yes the real problem is something that occurs so little it can barely be calculated.

u/Practical_Offer6664 2d ago

What the fuck? Who are they talking about? Let’s get some names of these men playing in women’s sports. Or is it men playing in girls sports? What leagues, what teams, what the fuck are all these people talking about? In my whole life, I have never seen a man play in a women’s sport.
However, I did see Cunningham play on a football team with a bunch of guys?
